Is anyone else getting wildly inaccurate battery life estimates? For some reason the Vista battery monitor always seems to say I have somewhere around 1.5 hours at full charge, when in reality it's closer to 3+...

BisonCam Vista drivers (32bit and 64bit)

I have just found the drivers for my webcam. It is under the chinese Aser site but they work on my Vista 64bit Asus A7DC notebook with the 1.3Mb Bison webcam. Note is it called an Aser Orbicam in this driver.

The link to the bison, logitech &Suyin drivers page is: Driver page for some other Webcams with the Bison

The BisonCam (Orbicam) driver Zip file is: Bison Cam download all versions

The download was very slow for me when I did down load it but the files are complete. I can only vouch for the Bison though.

Once downloaded I unzipped, installed and rebooted.

You then need to edit the registry or download the attached txt file and rename to .reg, then double click to import it or add the following or save on notepad as a .reg file and imported:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

(I found the above from another site by Ronak2032, thanks to him).

The camera then worked a treat except that it was upside down, so a quick vertical flip /rotation done the trick.

All sorted now for this one, just the ITE Asus Remote control 64bit Vista driver to find and I will be all done.

I hope this one helps you guys out. I also hope that now one driver has been built for this Cam, that other will follow including the official asus driver.
    Good luck.

My buttons to turn on/off wireless, bluetooth, adjust display, etc don't seem to be working on my V6J.

When I press the button to turn on/off wireless, tells me I need to install Intel Pro Utl.

I thought the ATK drivers where what i needed. Any ideas where I can download the ATK or HCONTROL drivers to get these hot buttons working again?

GizBug - You NEED to install the Intel ProSet utility, and sadly, no I don't. You can look through all the driver pages, but I only found the G1 which has the Vista version of ProSet. Not even Intel offers it on their website.

    Installing Windows Vista Ultimate:

Everything was set up properly except the ATI video drivers.

I thought that was very cool. No more drivers to download.

Or am I missing something by using whatever Windows Vista gave me?

    I have the A8Jp

    Hey all,

Sorry if I am asking something repetitive - i've been scouring the forums without any luck...

I Installed Vista Ultimate on my W3J-H017 (Bios 2.10) via the boot hack with Bart PE. Installation was flawless except for difficulty getting my sound to work. After finding the link for the soundmax driver (Thanks Bender! http://www.sendspace.com/file/541mon) I was able to get audio to work however the Fn+F10, F11, F12 commands to mute/decrease/increase the volume do not work. All other hotkeys and side buttons work fine. Any suggestions?

Also, big Thank You to everyone who's contributed links in this regard; couldn't have installed vista without you!

(EDIT: I Re-installed the hotkey drivers, and rebooted - Everything works great now!)

Using an a8jp here, recently upgraded to Vista home premium. Everything works fine here as far as I know except for these issues:

My wireless network name and signal strength only appears when I mouse over the network taskbar icon (the one of two computers and a globe, usually between the sound and power icons). Is this normal? Is there some way to get the wireless signal strength to appear as an icon like I had with XP?

Also, Media center starts up every time I boot the computer or resume from standby and this is really irritating. I've tried reseting its settings, and the program is not set to open on startup. Any suggestions?

Using an F3Ja here, and i havnt yet installed doing research into it though.

So will i need to install ALL of these driver like for my touchpad and things? As in not even my touchpad will work when i re-install?

In the Utilities section which driver is for what exactly? Does the ATi Driver include the Catayst control centre becasue i dont think they gave me a disk for that. What about drivers for bluetooth, also does it matter which webcam driver i were to download?

I think as people can tell i am a bit warey of upgrading because of some of these issues.

Don't know how useful this is, but Asus posted a new version of LiveUpdate for Vista (32-bit). I know it's actually pretty useless and not all that crucial, but I figured somebody might want it.

    http://dlsvr02.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/F3Tc/Liveupdate_Vista32bit_070125.zip

As a side note, it seems that the F3Jp has a pretty extensive list of updated drivers/apps on the Asus download site (though many notebooks that share similar/identical components do not...).

Wraith of Vern: I do not believe you can use the old drivers from that CD; those utilities and their respective drivers are made for XP and may work to a very limited extent, but by no means do they work well on Vista. I highly recommend downloading the new, updated versions - they look nicer, too. ^_^

As for the graphics drivers, the AMD/ATI site has updated drivers for Vista - I believe they have updated every supported card.

Jollins: I have the same problem; I am almost sure that it's a BIOS issue. ASUS has yet to update many BIOSes, and TPM doesn't seem to work for anyone I know running Vista on ASUS notebooks.

Azrael, thanks for the advice. I think i am going to download all of the stuff now and transfer it via DVD once i have vista on. This way i dont have to wait for all those long downlods and possibley having my computer not work for a while..
In the downloads given on page 1 there is an ATi driver and utility, will that be the one i need first and then update it for my graphics cards after installing that.

Help please! My SD card reader in my W2Jc is performing at half speed! Are there any specific drivers for the SD reader?

I'm using the built in Vista driver. After reading all 32 pages of this thread I've come to the conclusion the Ricoh card reader driver is for the MMC/MS/XD components of the card reader, and not the SD reader part. Is that right? anyway, I did install it, but don't have any other cards to test. Even after installing the Ricoh Vista card reader driver, the transfer speed for the SD card is still pants.

I have tested the card reader with an several SD memory cards, and it reads data at half the speed (about 2mb/sec) compared to an external card reader plugged into one of the USB2 port does, which reaches over 4mb/sec.

This causes issues both with transferring pics off the card to the PC, and even more annoyingly, when Windows Explorer opens the card and just tries to show whats on it in a window, which takes an incrediby long time, with the green progress bar in the address bar taking ages to finish.

As I have a 2Gb card, which I use every few days to transfer images from my digital camera, it's driving me nuts that it takes so long.

In addition, I would assume this halves the speed of the Readyboost cache if an SD card is used for it.

Does anyone know of new Vista drivers for the W2Jc's card reader.

If anyone could give me the spec, make and model of the builtin reader I'd appreciate that too.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

    Hey all,

I've got another question for you guys regarding the Asus Hotkey app as well as the side-buttons for the ASUS w3j, including media buttons. Initially, after i installed the drivers/apps, everything worked perfectly. Now, however, none of the buttons or hotkeys work at all. I've tried reinstalling with only transient success. It seems that after the install. Vista is removing the keys from the registry so that the apps aren't running at start up - hence, no action from the buttons or hot keys. Does anyone know exactly what programs should be in the registry to allow the ASUS programs to run? Any help is greatly, greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Adam

select Notebook -> A8 Series -> A8Jp and then click search

towards to the top right you can see, Operating System: and from there you can select which OS you have, which as of 3/13 i believe now includes Vista drivers.

btw i thought you returned the a8jp? hope you resolved ur screen issues if you kept it

Yep, changed my mind and decided to keep it. In fact, this one has a nice working touchpad compared to my other one, and no problems posting :0 so I guess i'm ok with it. After using my wifes macbook for a couple of weeks, I have come to realize the screen isn't really that much worse, and I can live with it for sure.

So for now, im definatly keeping it.

Hopefully they'll continue to update this as it seems they're still missing some drivers/utilities (i.e., all the ATK's - i know they were listed on the first page of the thread, but i know some people w/ w3j's are still having issues w/them)

Interestingly enough... I checked the W3J downloads page again, and it appears to be only WinXP...looks like they took down all the Vista 32 drivers....

Here's another driver question ('cause we simply didn't have enough...). Windows Update on my Vista Ultimate has tried continually to download an update for ATK0100, and it fails to install every time. Has anyone else had this issue, and is there anywhere else to get the updated ATK?

    A-Lit: They're back = P

And as for that update, it's actually older/not as functional as the one posted here. Even if you were to download it, I'd advise you to use the newer one. But I digress.

I've had problems downloading updates several times - and each time, it was because of Bitdefender's "real-time protection." After disabling it temporarily, I could download and install updates normally. I'd check to see if your anti-virus or firewall programs are interfering with the update - or, if you have Bitdefender 10, to just disable real-time protection.

Hmmm..... that's a good point, Thanks Azrae. I don't have BitLocker installed, although I am using Avast antivirus. I can try running the updates with Avast disabled or before Avast is installed.

Also, the URL for the W3J downloads on ASUS's site actually points to the A3F drivers.... I just take that to mean they haven't done any work specific to the W3J yet, so our updated bios is probably still a little ways out in the future.

With the help of this and other threads, I am running my a8js on vista 64-bit without many problems. But I cant seem to get the ATK drivers loaded...which prevents other asus items from loading. The only ones listed on the asus site are 32-bit, which fail to install for me.

Anyone get the ATK drivers working under 64-bit?

OK - now running Vista Ultimate thanks to this thread (W2Jc). Here's the steps I took to get (almost) everything working...

All drivers installed are from the first page of this thread, and I only rebooted at the points listed.

    1) Remove Vista Lan Driver
    2) Install Lan Driver
    3) Install Sound Driver
    4) Install ATK100 driver
    5) Uninstall all ACPI drivers (except the above) using Device Manager
    6) Install Asus Hotkey Driver
    7) Install Asus Media Driver
    8) Install Asus OSD Utility
    9) Uninstall MS Wireless Driver
    10) Install Asus Wireless Driver
    11) Install Asus Wireless Console (Reboot Here)
    12) Install P4 Gear Extreme (Reboot Here)
    13) Install NB Probe
    14) Install Touchpad Driver

At this point run Windows update - this will install the driver for the TV tuner (Media Center sees the card, but not tested the results yet)

At the moment I have only one issue and two untested things...

    1) The remote control doesn't work - drivers have been downloaded for it by WIndows update, and the one on the first post doesn't seem to work anyway. Maybe the remote isn't compatable with media center? I have no idea...

    2) The TV tuner... Must test later today when I can connect it to the cable feed

    3) Card reader... Have no compatable cards (only use xD cards and the W2J won't read them :( )

All in all very impressed. Took 4 installs to get right - hopefully this list will help others do it in less.

Oh, one other thing. Don't use Norton 2007 Internet Security - installed the Vista version from their site as I have a subscription and instantly I lost my network drives. Set the firewall up correctly (even turned it off) but nothing. After I uninstalled Norton I still had no network drives. In the end I did an Upgrade install of Vista and instantly got my network drives back. Norton is the reason for the last two installs...

Finally: A *HUGE* thankyou to OrioN-W2Jb without that help I think I would still be hitting my head against a brick wall! :D

Mav, its interesting how that order worked for you; i had to install as much as I could before ATK drivers, or else none of my hotkeys or side buttons worked on my w3j. getting it right took me a few installs as well, though, but all is working alright now!

By the way... what's the Probe program? The last time i saw Probe was with my ASUS mobo for my desktop, and it was an antivirus program - still the same?

Strange... The buttons didn't do anything until I installed the correct drivers, but they all worked at the end.

Do you have a remote? If so any details on how you got it working? :)

As for NB Probe - it's a way of seeing your CPU's temp (and other sys info). It's available on the first page of this thread. Must admit I prefer the XP verison of it. The Vista one gives names values for the CPU temp and CPU fan speed. ('Normal', 'Low and Quiet' etc etc). The XP version gave actual temp info and fan rpm info. The XP one also gave a full DMI overview of the system - that is completely missing from the Vista version.

Speaking of Anti-Virus - anyone got any recommendations? I want to use AntiVir - but it's not available until Vista until April... (Why is it all these companies got caught out with this, it's not like MS sprang Vista on the tech community?)

Mav: Aaah, that's right, I forgot what probe was. I actually just googled programs for HDD Temp, etc... but if probe doesn't give actual values, I'm not sure I'll use it.

While I did install Vista ultimate, I don't have a HDD tuner in my laptop. I do, however, have it on my desktop and the remote works for it, without any tweaking. Everything just installed by itself, as did my tuner card.

In terms of antivirus, I've always used Avast - their latest version does have Vista support, which makes it even better, plus it's free. You can get it here: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html#DownloadAvastHomeEdition

I would like to have the ATK drivers working under 64-bit Ultimate... Without them I'm unable to get Wireless and other stuff like HotKeys working! :( Anyone?

Eddie - It took me a couple of tries to figure out how to get the ATK drivers to work. I had to install as many other drivers as I could until I received a message saying ATK0100 was required; at that point, i installed all of the ATK's, and everything works great. Try uninstalling all ATK software, if you have any of it installed, and then reboot and try again, starting with ATK0100, and then moving on from there (ATKMedia, ATKOSD2, etc). Was there ever a point that it worked, and then you installed something else and it subsequently stopped? That's happened to a friend of mine, and he had to tweak a bit until he figured out which drivers/utilities to not install on his machine

This is for Mavuk or anyone else who's used the ASUS NB Probe program... Has anyone noticed that the System information is wildly inaccurate? Mine reports that my X1600 has 1MB of ram, and that I've got no bluetooth...

I am trying to do 1:1 pixel mapping but the drivers on the first page don't support this (NVIDIA).

Has NVIDIA released anything new that will support this in Vista? Or possibly modified video drivers that support the mobile cards?

Nope, sorry it reports it all correctly. Have you installed all the ACPIU drivers correctly - at least I think this is how it gets the information. If anyone knows any differently please feel free to correct me...

Hmm... What drivers specifically are you referring to? I basically installed everything from the 1st page of the thread, except the Intel INF driver. everything works fine, I was just curious as to why it was showing up incorrectly in Probe

Sorry if this is old news but Vista 32-bit W3J drivers are up at the Asus support download page now. I think they're still updating the site as the page isn't always available...

    thanks
