I'm not having a 77C idle on my GPU. Dunno what made it change like that.
hEH, it was too good to be true. It dropped to 74 and now is back to 80. It was like, "hey, why the hell am I cooling?"

Nvidia Forceware 167.26
Just so you guys know these are the BEST drivers! Get them from laptopvideo2go.com NOW!
I did a clean install of XP, immediately installed 163.76 drivers (nothing else installed, no other drivers), ran 3dmark06 and got 4171. I uninstalled, ran driver cleaner, installed 167.26, ran 3dmark06 and got 4351!!!! AMAZING!
Even though the purpose of the bench was to show performance improvement of 163.76 vs. 167.26, here is my setup:
3Dmark06 1280x1024
Asus C90S
8600M GT GDDR2 (560/1180/530) 15x each test looped 3dmark06 STABLE!
E6700 at 2.66ghz
3GB
Windows XP -
Wish someone would bench the latest Vista 32 drivers.

1024x768 or OC GDDR3? -

That's so nice.
I re-did some tests on XP today. For whatever reaons the fans were correct for the 10 first minutes of guild wars, then they just said STFU and stopped working -

By the way the 167.26 allow overclocking......

OCing via riva tuner or other software? Now we're talking. Waiting for the vista x64 release
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Thats not a new driver. Its an olld 156 series driver.
-
-
Yes, its bios level. If i remember, I will run with the ntune overclock tonight instead and see what I get.
-
Can I ask you why you're not overheating at those clocks ? >-<
-
Use RivaTuner 2.05 which allows separate shader overclocking and the 167.26 driver which unlock the clock again. I'm happy with these drivers, the bring me close to 4k with just the Turbo Gear VGA enhancer
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Hey guys gonna use the 167 driver and overclock tonight. What were the highest stable clocks? I remember people were saying 500/550.

Should I buy a C90s I am a bit concerned about all the problems people are having with them. I was going to buy it from gentech and I was wondering if they had fixed all their ram problems. I was thinking of something like this for the build:
Nvidia 8600m Gt 256mb GDDR3
Intel Conroe E6600 2.4Ghz
160gb hard drive 5400rpm
1x2GB ram
How well would that run todays latest games in overclock or gaming mode, and I would i get more battery life out of it in power-save since it has only a 2.4ghz processor and a 5400rpm hard drive?
Also one more question should i go with xp or vista, i herd that xp does not support dx10 -
The E6600 would roughly be as powerfull as 2 Pentium 4 clocked a 4.8-5.5 ghz so no worries there. 160 & 250GB 5400 are almost as fast.
I'd go with 2x1GB just to be sure but I'm sure Ken knows wich one tu use. -
Would it be better to go with the 2x1gb ram for cooling purposes, and just for confirmation they have sorted out a majority of the bugs that the C90s has been facing?
-
Mainly because 2x1GB is $75 and 1x2GB is $130.
@ The Forrunne: My core is stable at 550 and my memory arround 520-530 max. -
I have my core ( gddr3 model ) at 565 right now with the stock Asus drivers, and in gaming mode I get like 4400 in 3dmark. That's a really nice score!
-
thanks swoley, 3dmark06 went up 500 pts for me (4207) using the 167.26 drivers.
-
I have stock drivers for my 8600 256mb ddr3 card and i have scored 2300 everytime in 3dmark06. What the hell is going on. Im not in power saving mode, im in standard mode, also when i overclock in gaming mode 3dmark doesnt finish. I need help! haha, those are some terrible scores! Oh and im not running anything in the background either. Iv seen that most people get around 3600 with stock everything so i know something is wrong. Any help would be much aprecciated.
-
is your c90s new? If it's the lastest version, it contains "drivers CD v2" so it could have 163.69 rather than 101.xx
Also, do you swtich vista to "high performance" mode?
Try upgrading to 167.26 -
so how do i know wich drivers are 167.26 they only go up 165....

-power supply 120w
-i have the new revision but im pretty sure im using driver version 101.117....whatever number
-i havent tried 167.26 yet i did try a couple others they all were even worse than what i had, so i will try that after i make sure i am using stock asus drivers 101.117 whatever
- i run in asus turbo gear mode but i have changed the setting so that everything is on max when plugged in, I will try in highperformance mode when i get home today
- Just to clarify "I am using the stock driver that came with the card"
Thank you all for the help i will mess with stuff later today and tell you how it goes. -
-
167.26 are suppose to work a better for the DDR3 card again. Make sure your using inf v3.232 (went from v3.229 up to v232 in just a few days).
-
yes the separate one that come with the card not the c90
-
There was a driver coming with the card...? Mine was OEM...no package...
-
We caught that and we return them all to Asus. -
-
-
-
windows reads it as an 8600m gt and same with that thing on laptopvideo2go that tells you your card info, also the serial number on it is the same as a 8600m gt so im pretty sure its the gt. i ordered it from interproshop.com which wasn't the greatest but had best price haha.
its GDDR3 -
wouldn't windows or any software that tells you about your card say its a 8600m gs if thats what it really was.
-
one more thing, yeah mine was oem with no package either but it did come with a cd with the driver on it.

Depends.... If they have hardcoded the bios or something to say its a gt, then all software will report it as a gt.
Best thing to do right now is look at your clock speeds for the ram and core and report back. -
MN8600M GT/HTD/256M C473 or 472
if it says P555 instead of C473 or 472 then it's the wrong card. -
Did you try GPU-Z 0.0.9?
Also, ou can just edit rather than make 3 posts...
Like vicious said, try checking to clock speed, I'd suggest rivaturner since many others do bios reading (Rivaturner says the core speed is at 513, not 475 for exemple) -
no i havent tried that yet and im at work so i cant look till i get home thanks for all the help i will check everything around 530 when i get home and then get back to you guys, haha sorry about that 3 posts i am new for forums didnt really pay attention and never noticed the edit, also again im at work so im just trying to talk in a hurry before i get in trouble haha. thank you again everyone.
-im pretty sure my speeds were 400gpu and 700 mem might have been 450 though -
After doing more research into the laptop and I still don't know if I want to buy one of these. How upgradeable will they be? Is 2.93ghz the highest processor you will ever be able to upgrade to? Will you only ever be able to upgrade to 3 gig ram? I know you will be able to upgrade to a gfx card later but how long until the processors become obsolete, and will you still be able to buy and install new processors say 3 years from now?

@ GentechPC (Ken) any word on what geared2play (post 582)was saying about the power adapter a few posts back? My power adapter gets hot enough for me to think about it's failure. Really hot, like forget about the heating bill hot.
I know we spoke about this before, but I keep hearing about it here and there.
@Vicious below, let's say "less expensive" instead of cheaper, sounds better imo... -

That cpu will stay good way longer than the gpu will.
I dont see that being a problem for atleast 3-4 years. In games cpu is usually not used that much. For processing tasks its still bounds better than what the top notebook cpu is aswell.
Even if you get a different notebook, its not like things will change. You just lose the option to upgrade totally and last I checked the c90 is still cheaper than any notebook in its league. -
You make a very good point
-
the revision before F07 does not need 120W as I've already tested some units runing 3Dmark non-stop for more than a week now.
For revision F08 we are using right now all comes with 120W AC doesn't matter which video card you purchase. -
ok from gpu-z 0.0.9 my clock speed is 450 my memory is 700 and my shader is 918
the driver is 101.17 is that the right stock one?
-with riva i get 486 702 and 972
