Yes that's the right clock speed, so you do have GDDR3 video card, not sure why your score is so low.

YEah these drivers are not worth it for me. Would have been if I could overclock like everyone. Max overclock I am getting is 530/500. I can't even touch the memory past that, even going to 500/501 it wont let me. Besides I experience glithces with alot of my games, all except the COD demo which coincidentally was what I was testing for the overclocks. I was able to get a bit over 3900 3dmark with 530/500.

Where do I find the wattage on the power brick? I dont see it listed. Also, is the motherboard revision clearly marked on the motherboard? I dont want to remove the ace door if I dont have to. Im just concerened about future upgrades needing more power or not working even with the 120w.

it was set on standard 2d mode thats why there was the 169 100 speeds then there is low power 3d which is 274 301 and performance 3d which is 450 700

now that i have changed that i cant get through 3dmark though, i get the display drivers not responding and have succesfully repaired or whatever it says balloon

3dmark is running much smoother up unil it stops working though so i think that if i could at least finish 3d mark i would get a much better score now

The motherboard revision is mark on the top memory slot, if you have revision ealier than F07 then you are fine.

As far as the gddr3 cards go with 167.26, you may try removing all references to powermizer from the .inf file. Keep in mind that the only place to get these drivers is from laptopvideo2go....which modifies the .inf file. While certain .inf file changes may be good for some cards the gddr3 version may have came along and changed that. Also, I remember on some drivers my gddr2 version isnt recognized by certain drivers even though the 8600m gt is listed as supported in the .inf. To fix this, I just copied and pasted the two 8600m gt lines from the top and bottom of an older .inf file. If i remember right the first line had some extra stuff after the "PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0407" part. In other words, the first line should be just "%NVIDIA_G84.DEV_0407.1% = nv4_NV3x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0407" not "%NVIDIA_G84.DEV_0407.1% = nv4_NV3x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0407blahblahblahblah"...dont know though and cant test it...

I know that it has been posted before... but what is the known issue with ram? I chose Mushkin. I have 3Gb. 2g in the 1st slot & 1g in the second. I have not flashed the bios. I have downloaded the utility and the new bios. My system crashes at odd times and the fans kick on with a screen freeze. I try to boot the system off of battery power and the system cycles thru blue screens at every boot. When I remove the 1g stick, it works ok off of AC power. What's the deal? Will the new bios help? Has anyone flashed to the new one yet? last thing.... Did anyone get an external antenna with their c90? the manual shows it... my vendor says it is not offered in my region (USA). All I got was the coax dongle.
    Thanks

167.26 suck in Vista and rock in XP, but I just downloaded the new XG 162.62 (tweakforce) for Vista and they seem to be running very well.

Flash the bios firstly (do it through DOS with the image Ken posted in another topic).

It's probably the RAM. I don't think the 2GB mushkin was in the supported list. I think Corsair works but I'm not sure. Super Talent 2GB works well though

I wish they would fix the goddamn RAM issue already. It's been almost two months since I purchased the laptop, 3 since it came out, and yet THEY STILL HAVEN'T FIGURED IT OUT?! It's really dumb how long it's taking them. :S

just wanted to let everyone know, scored 3652 on 3dmark06 with my stock drivers. I guess my card was set to clock at 169 gpu and 100 memory but after i set it to 450 700 like it should be with riva everything is working good.

thanks for all the help everyone

also vicious do you think its worth it to cut the holes under the gpu because this is the first time 3dmark has run all the way through and im pretty sure its becuase the computer was just turned on before i ran it, otherwise it usually stops in the middle.

Worth it if your temps are high and you need to drop them. If your temps are good there is no real reason to do it. Or you can try a cooling pad first too.

My card was running way too hot so I had to mod mine. I am getting a replacement card soon. With any luck it will run much cooler and maybe let me overclock too. I also am borrowing a 256mb GDDR3 card to test out.

I am trying to track down why the new drivers are killing the performance of the card, If I can find out it will be a huge help to the community. I think its just a matter of chaning something to the .inf file.

That sounds exactly like the problem I had with my c90 when I first got it. I pretty much stressed about it then decided to mod the panel. (Hey vicious do you still agree with your comment #240 here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=170318&page=24 ? ;) )

I couldn't get through 3dMark at all, to do so I need to have a desk fan blowing on the GPU, once I did the panel mod and added a cooling pad I run at 8700GT speeds and have great temps.

Here's what you might be able to expect. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=170318&page=25

I wont do this anytime soon unless i have trouble in games becuase i dont really care about 3dmark scores i just wanted to make sure my card was running correctly which it wasnt at first but now is :) Or maybe if i decide to overclock a little but yeah il try the cooling pad first to see if that cures my problem.

Anyways I love this computer and am totally happy with it, so far iv had no real problems besides my gpu running horribly at first but thats fixed for now at least, its super fast and awesome for the price :) id like to thank all of you for writing reviews on it becuase without you i might not have ever had the guts to just buy a computer wihout ever seeing it or anything haha. Oh and sorry i write so much sheesh i guess i just like to type on my C90s :) wooo!!

Yeah I still agree, I got larger drops in temps with the stock panel and an airflow than I did with the mod.

The mod + airflow works great tho.

However there actully a problem and I am testing it now.

The mod despite being for the gpu has droped my cpu temps SO LOW that the fans almost never kick in. with overclock mode and a 3dmark06 run the fans only kick on audibly for one part of the test for about 10 seconds. Other than that the fans never come on. So I lost all the native cooling.

The induced airflow is doing well enough to where its not needed, the only negivie effect tho is that my hdd temps feel hotter. I guess the hot air is being pushed to that section of the notebook. Just abit hotter maybe 1 or 2c at most, infact maybe its the same and I just think its hotter because the rest of the notebook is cooler.

I am running a 3dmark06 loop right now with the pad blowing air in the mod area, one with the notebook on the cooler but only part of the mod area getting air, then will try again with no cooler and compare temps.

The cooler was not needed, but I like the tilt it gives me, and with no mod it would have probably droped temps to a safe operating temp.

Keep in mind my gpu runs super super hot. When I get the replacement it should balance out better (42c cpu vs 70c gpu idle is how hot it is)

i changed the settings to performance under driver setting it was set to power saving or whatever but it wasnt from the windows power savings mode; in windows high performance mode it was still running at 169 100 so i just set it to always clock at 450 700

my hard drive runs just warm right above it and in the top left corner of the touch pad it is pretty hot but i dont rest my had there anyway i have the 7200rpm though

You asked for a replacement VGA because it was overheating? Tell me if it ends up working... (i.e, if it's really due to a somewhat defective vga...) I'd do the same thing

I should have the new one any day now. Mine really was overheating tho, it was hotter than anybody elses I have seen on the forums so far. Over 100c load and nearly 90c idle.

I may just end up upgrading to the GDDR3 card if I can find a way to upgrade drivers on it with no ill effects.

Those temps were in the range that my GDDR3 was running pre mod. It overheated and shut down a couple times before "fixing" my problem.

my gpu runs at 86 when im not doing anything and cpu 56

During the intro video to stalker my gpu got up to 106, my cpu only went to 65

I dont have a cooling pad.

I have some AS5 lying around, i was gonna use it when i first got everything but was to lazy to clean off the stock stuff, but maybe i should now, does it really make a big difference at all?

Nmonitor is great, it shows the temp but also graphs over time and can create a log. The log is good for things like 3dmark so you can see what the temps were at every X moment. I usually set it for 4-8 second intervals. The log can record alot of things too like ram use, network use ect.

So, is there like a list of ram that works? Will gentech take my ram back now that it's been a few months? Why did they stick in a piece of ram that didn't work in the first place... grr...

They will definitly work with you on it, I think gentech is the best asus dealer around.

    Hey,

I am a little concerned about my CPU performance, cause I achieve 60 sec (@stock) in the wPrime benchmark, shouldn't it be far lower. I did quit most of the programs running in the back and some processes. Any suggestions !?
Edit: Ahhh... I got it. I didn't know that I had to set it to two threads --> Dual Core ;) Now I get something around 30 sec.... shall I delete my post ?

Hi all im the proud new owner of a C90. I just got it off of IBUYPOWER.com and everything seems to be running great for me :). The only problem I seem to be having is a keyboard related one. For some reason when I play a game I cannot use the WASD OR the arrow buttons to move without holding down the shift button at the same time :/. This happens in every game i play( UT,EQ2, CnC generals, empire at war, etc). The only game that works fine is FEAR. Iv tried everything i could think of from sticky keys problem to run as admin, compatability to xp. Also all the keybaord drivers are working properly and I dont have a joystick plugged in. I hope this info helps and appreciate any help on this matter :)

It works correctly in Fear, but not other games?! Interesting....

Have you tried in the games it doesn't work in to go into the control configuration area and re-assign the keys to the WASD keys and see what happens. You may find that once you press the keys to re-assign them that it may list them as something other than W,A,S, and D. If it does then you have a starting point to begin troubleshooting from, as opposed to guessing. ;)

hmm I guess I shoulda said I have already tried reassigning the keys, from retyping in the WASD to reassigning them to RDFG. Something else to think on this all started when after I installed UT(its a burned copy and we use cracks to play(we are in iraq so its hard to all get the same games :p)). The odd thing is it worked fine the first time i installed it but i had to uninstall and reinstall it because I didnt combine my partition into one. The second time is when it and the rest of my games started not to respond to WASD or the arrows. This part just crossed my mind because my buddy installed UT and the same thing just happened to him. Now I uninstalled UT a while ago but obviously that didnt help. :/

My heat is a bit better now. The GPU thermal paste is starting to take effect in idle. Idle is 72C @168/100 now. Playing WiC @500/530 keeps the GPU to 96C

I just installed the Crysis demo and my computer wigged out for pretty much the first time. It wanted a windows hotfix, that took way too long, took too long to restart, when it restarted took too long to get going, ran the game fine though. Now that it's gone, back to normal. I'm not much of a gamer, can anyone think of anything that might have caused this behavior?

Hi, i have some problems with the witcher and windows, but somone said that a solution to this maybe was to install the newest drivers.

I wonder if i maybe shouldinstall the 160.04 driver, but does it disable any functions at the comp. like turbo gear?

I put AS5 on today and so far no difference at all but thats cuase it needs to break in.
I was wondering though if i should have put it on the memory as well as the main chip?
I just put it on the main chip and left the heat pads on the memory chips.
They are the memory chips right haha, the little black squares, theres 4 of them. I dont know the correct terms.

Oh and im gonna order the Antec cooling pad tonight unless somebody advises me not to for any reason. I can get it for 23 bucks shipped to my door so I figure its a plenty good deal.

definitly dont use it on the memory, just the core.

Its important that everything be fitted right and also the heatspreader needs a thicker layer than normal of AS5. if you put a super thin layer like normal I found it wont even make contact (atleast with mine) (talking about where the heat spreader and heat sink connect not the gpu core and heat spreader)

i put a pretty good amount there since i knew it couldnt spread onto anything othere than more heatspreader. It seems to be working a little bit now that it got hot and cooled off, it definatly takes longer for everything to heat up and my idle went from about 86 to 83 so not a big difference but il take it. Also i havent been able to get it up to 106 like before so im pretty sure its helping.
I got the free shipping on that cooling pad so it wont get here for about a week but when it does we will see how much more it drops. If i cant get it in the lower 70s i think im gonna just cut the holes under the gpu since that will clearly work especially with a cooling pad. I just hate when i have problems in games from it overheating. Aside from gaming its never a problem.

New problem for me. I haven't ever used the wireless card before until a few days ago. I'm in Vista 32bit with all the drivers updated... including the intel driver from the intel website for the wireless card. Now at random times... it never fails btw... the wireless card disables itself. I lose connection, can't get to the network manager, and it'll never work until i reboot. I've tried searching for the problem, and there's a couple posts that says it's a known problem in Vista. I've reformatted, but it still disables it self anywhere from 5 mintues to an hour into using the laptop.

    Any ideas?

Also, what driver and RivaTuner clock speed are people using for Hellgate London? (I'm running the DDR3 card, E6700, 3 gigs of OZ ram).
