Notebookcheck review for the UX32VD is up!
Review Asus Zenbook UX32VD Ultrabook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews -
Thanks for posting that. The review seems mainly positive.
I like that it offers the HDD + SSD caching because it should drop the price a bit compared to an SSD-only ultrabook. I can always replace the HDD on my own with an SSD that is cheaper down the line.
1080p screen with Ivy Bridge and a dedicated Nvidia card on a small sized laptop with ~5 hours of battery is sounding pretty good to me. -
looking to get one!
-
Kepler based Ultrabook with IPS screen from LG? Seems like Asus might of missed the boat by not putting a Kepler based GPU in the Zenbbok. I might have to check out this netbook.

Thanks for the link. Looks like the UX32VD will be good for some light gaming, while only being slightly heavier and thicker than the UX32A.
It would be interesting to see if they can run BF3 on that thing =) -
Can anyone confirm if it comes with WiDi or not? Was really hoping it would.
-
Has anyone been able to confirm if it's possible to upgrade the HDD in UX32VD to a SSD? i.e. changing it oneself..
-
Will we get a release date and price soon? I'm really torn between this and the new Envy 15.
-
they are two different types of machines one is more of a multimedia gaming while the other is portable and nice lookin
-
Completely agree with you, but I'm still torn between them.
Each one has features that I want.
Envy:
-Bigger Screen
-Better Graphics Card
-Larger Hard Drive
Zenbook:
-Lighter/Slimmer
-Better Battery Life
-Better Reliability (This one is debatable, but Asus even offers the Accidental Coverage as a standard for 1 year. HP is also known for some poor quality control even for the Envy line, like poor colors on the screen, dented USB ports, over heating.) -
lol well for the reliablity im taking no chances and getting 3 yr accidental coverage
-
I think extending the manufacture warranty would be a higher priority. Mother boards cost alot to replace, like $400. Hard drives and battery are only 80ish. At least that is what my friend paid for his HP laptop when it broke down multiple times
-
by that i mean its 3 year warranty extention+accidental lol

Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
Im quite afraid of the keyboard, the touchpad I have given up, its going to be dreadful.
I was pretty impressed by the gt 620m performance, I was quite wrong on that one, GLADLY! -
The UX32VD has mini-VGA and HDMI ports, but can it support multiple monitors? Can I use an external 24" at 1920x1200, or even a 27-30" monitor at higher resolutions?
-
What are you talking about? I've heard only praise about the trackpad, probably the best on a windows laptop. Keyboard is also supposed to be one of the best for an ultrabook.
-
What are you talking about? According to the review posted in the last page they mention its one of the best trackpads not as good as Apple laptops.
-
I'm sure a lot of these trackpad issues are due to the software, but does anyone think OSX just handles the mouse gestures better from a software/driver standpoint?
I wonder how much Windows 8 will improve on this.
Also, does anyone know if these new Asus models will offer a full matte or semi gloss display? I've seen mixed answers on this. Thanks. -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
thats the problem I have a mbp
In the review its still missing/not registering some gestures one thing that I dont have to deal with this one.
I know it wont come close to what I have, and that I will have to use mouse.
I accept the loss, the keyboard however is another matter, it has to be good. -
I'm sure the keyboard will be better than any apple one you've been using, because apple keyboards generally suck.

lovelaptops MY FRIENDS CALL ME JEFF!
Ironically, there is little about the new Asus that trumps the 2010 Sony VPC-Z11, and only the cpu is a little stronger than the SV C2D in your VGN-Z11, while the screen has all the same characteristics (well, yours is probably 900p, but some would prefer this in the Asus and you have the same brightness, contrast and 100% sRGB coverage. How sad the Sony has sat on its laurels and done nothing to extend what was once a huge lead.
Best kept secret: Every Intel Core i 5-7 from the first generation on supports WIDI with the addition of the TV adapter. Most of the first gen Core i and some of the SB Core i models require a (free) download of the software from Intel. Poorly informed reviewers lead you to believe the computer is only WIDI-capable if it is mentioned in the literature, but it just isn't so. -
damn... i just paid 10$ extra on my new hp envy for "wireless display support"

That $10 upgrade was probably to change the wifi card to an intel one from the stock one which is probably broadcom or atheros.
-
i think they were both intel
-
The new Acer Aspire S7 may make me think twice about the new Asus... it's got some glass accents and a touchscreen... which is useful with Win8.
-
Wait, you're actually going to get Windows 8? I'd say the touchscreen is the only reason to use Win 8, for regular laptops/PCs Win 7 will probably still be the better choice.
-
lol we could always just put it in windows 7 mode... I dont think the tiles would be bad as like a screen savor thing where inactivity pulls up notifications
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
No they dont, they are far from the best (lenovo), but also very above average. they have the right amount of travel and key separation is good enough for me. Asus on the other hand been consistently been rated with the worst keyboards out there, it was one of the things that after trying out the u36 made me not even buy it to test -
apparently they fixed that problem along with the trackpad, backlit, screen quality in this generation. asus has really steped up with these
-
I'm pretty set on getting this over the Samsung Series 9 now. The question I have is whether the UX31A or UX32VD allows for swapping the SSD/HDD? I hear the SSD being used in the UX21A (and likely UX31A) has poor performance and can't be swapped due to having a proprietary connector.
If this is the case, even for the UX32VD, I might have to look at the Samsung again. -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
I dont really trust notebookcheck when it comes to gpu, build quality, keyboards...
thats the problem i bought a laptop based on their recommendation, no chassis flex? wrong, great build quality? wrong again and the list goes on.
I liked the machine though.
Im probably heavily inclined towards the T430s now, with thunderbolt and expresscard I can have my gaming needs covered (not that they are extensive), I will SORELY miss the 1080p ips display though. -
haha there are more reviews than notebook check

New page from Asus is up
ASUS - Notebooks- ASUS ASUS ZENBOOK Prime UX31A -
^Nyse. But how come no pryse?
Also, while we're at it, can those with more knowledge recommend some similar laptops. Or are those yet to be released by the other manufacturers? -
Strange that it says that it comes in either 1600x900 or 1920x1080 whereas all previous previews say it comes in 1366x768 or 1920x1080.
-
Yeah. But 1600x900 makes sense, since that was the resolution of the previous Zenbook.
-
1366 is default for ux21 11"
1400 for ux31/32 13" -
I was hopeful reading about the UX32VD that it could take an SSD without any issues, but I wonder if it will be possible to disable the SSD cache and just go straight to a 256MB mSATA or a 7mm SSD of whatever size you like. Might be nice to have the option for those who don't mind the expense. If so, that 620M in an ultrabook form factor may trump the Samsung for me as well.
-
It does look sleek and very promising but, the side Power Button pisses me off. I am afraid that I can hit i accidently of have it in bacpack and turn on. -
I posted this the other day, but didn't see an answer yet. Can the UX32VD support multiple monitors with extended desktops? Can I use an external 24" at 1920x1200, or even a 27-30" monitor at higher resolutions? Is this possible on other ultrabooks?
-
This is a good point. I hope you're right about the UX32VD being able to take the SSD replacements. But yeah, that's another concern about disabling the SSD cache.
-
I don't see why not, this has been possible with every laptop that I know of that has any video output...
I don't think it will really be an issue, if it works as the primary OS hard drive with software for caching, then just re-install windows on the new SSD and the Cache should be located as a second hard drive you can use for extra storage or whatever. -
Perfect. That makes sense. Thanks!
-
Not sure if this has been posted yet but here is a video of the UX32VD side by side with and stacked on top of a UX31A for those of you who want to see how much thicker the UX32VD is.

Cant wait for this laptop to arrive Europe, more specific Denmark!
Has it been released in US yet? -
No, not yet. -
Cant bother take my 3.5 kilogram laptop on my back to Japan this year... so much want it before end of this month...which is unlikely to happen
-
Yep, prices just vary alot and I am not certain all retailers list list the correct specs (Dustinhome shows FHD screens on all models, also the cheap 32VD models)
