BBuy should have a whole new crop of power notebooks in October, and among them will be a couple of terrific deals like this one... dunno what it might be but the pattern is there.

i'm still hoping to see something like this rig, but in 14" high def

Neither of those have discrete GPUs. The 6650 in the K/A53TA would be a noticeable improvement in performance.

The 5750G's GT540 would be a bit faster than a 6650 while also using more power and making more heat. 2nd gen core i CPUs seem to be throttling in a LOT of machines and reports are that the 5750G suffers from throttling as well. I'd take the A/K53TA over the 5750G myself.

did IC Diamond 7 repaste yesterday. results at first were the same temps, tried it on today and idle was doing by 6c~ or so and load by 6c~ as well. (38c idle on power profile, 78c load on constant 2.3ghz profile @ 1.050 volts

i think it'd be more effective if there was another way to dissipate heat in the case. the heat build up is actually really slow, took about 10 mins in k10stat to reach 78c, while i remember that the stock laptop hit max temps pretty quickly. maybe adding a hole or modifying the fan might be the next step to lowering temps a bit more. once laptop sits at a high temperature for a bit, not much of the heat seems to be pushed out, since idle temps increase to 50~ or so and of course its easier to hit higher temps starting 12c hotter.

based on some disassembly pictures, it seems the heatsink design on the 2nd gen coreI acers sucks.
The cpu and gpu share the same heatpipes, so gpu heat would mix and add heat to the cpu. That's probably what is causing the throttling.

the newegg one most likely has accidental damage warranty.

    also, it has 7200rpm hdd.

otherwise identical. Even the crooked left mouse button is on the A53, if you look at the pics.

Assuming that the K53 will not be restocked, that's a better deal than the A53. As long as it can keep decent temps, the fact that at stock settings it's slightly superior to an OC'd A53 makes it the clear choice at that price. If you can still get a K53 though, saving over $200 makes it a significantly better deal.

Yeah, outflow is a problem with this design. Asus attempted to do with less airflow by using a double sided MoBo design, but it only works at stock clocks and temps. When overclocked, you're back to needing more airflow. Gumba did a great cooling mod to increase flow and dissipation, you might check that out since you're clearly not bothered by opening up your laptop.

I would definitely recommend cutting a whole in the bottom so the fan can access cold air.

I should update you guys, as far as my cooling mods, I removed the large heatsink on top of the GPU there wasn't good contact area and I think it actually raised temps after excessive OC and gaming... I have since gone back to my original setup using the Enzo heatsinks only. But I need to mention or recommend that people not use the thermal tape that comes with the enzo heatsinks, use SEKISUI thermal tape instead, provides much better transfer rate. And another thing, you should NOT attach the heatsinks onto the copper heat pipe, this also seemed to raise temps...

here's the basic layout once again... a bunch of heatsinks on top of the OC'd CPU and a few sitting on the ram for the GPU, seems to work best after I tried about 3-4 different setups... too much is bad as I found out after trying to add too many heatsinks everywhere.

I now am only reaching temps around 66C after excessive gamine in DXHR, I am only OCing now at 2.3/2.6GHz as I didn't see any improvements past this speed. This is the limit as far as performance for the integrated GPU I also have it propped up so that it gets extra airflow from beneath. The Modding video is in my Signature if you want to see what I did...

^^^ Ladies and gents, Gumba213, mad scientist and NBR hero.

I noticed there's now a huge gouge in your battery that's new or is that a thermal paste smear?

I also saw your motor and DAMN. I thought I would never see a worse blowout than my '87 TT Z, but your Evo implosion makes it look like a bottle rocket impact. With great power comes great destruction of pot-metal parts.

I think that was thermal paste, good eyes LOL

You must have visited my website Colorado Evolution Club to see the carnage... and BTW this forum sucks as far as functionality and design, half the crap is broke... if you guys want to see a well designed forum, check out my site, spent like 400 hours making it. And yes my evo blew up a few weeks ago... The rod bolt gave way and totally destroyed my shortblock. had over 500 ft/lbs of torque to the wheels on stock internals, it was bound to happen sooner or later... I will be rebuilding it with manley forged internals and a new ball bearing turbo in the coming months and should be putting down closer to 600 whp. Fast enough to stomp a new GTR. For you guys who like modding, don't get into cars, my car project is over $45K , you gotta pay to play but sometimes I think I am insane... then I realize theres others like my best friends who invested twice that... sheesh

Hey guys. So any word on why the dedicated display adapter changed to 6750 after installing the latest chipset drivers from ASUS?

Also, my WEI gaming graphics went down to 5.9 from 6.2 after installing these new drivers. :(

EDIT: Interesting. Just found out why it went down to 5.9. Crossfire was enabled. If I disable crossfire and re run the assessment, the score goes back to 6.2.

Yeah, off topic again, but that's amazing you were pushing 500lb/ft stock. I personally think Mitsu benefits hugely from always playing underdog to Subaru in sales. They build their Evo to be slightly better in every way every year, while Subs keep getting crappier.

Back on topic(ish). Speaking of poorly optimized forum, I can't figure out how to change the title of the owner's lounge I started. I want to change it to A53TA/K53TA so owners of the new A53 know where to find all the useful information they will surely need. Do I need admin assist for that? I'm used to being able to edit the titles of threads I start myself at least.

    re: overclocking graphics card

anyone try modifying bios to lock clock speed ?

there was this Radeon BIOS editor tool from techpowerup that could tweak clock settings from the vbios. Not sure if it works for the 6650

Evo X is far preferable to the last few years of STI's. Subaru has barely advanced their engine technology in the last 5-6 years, and it's a shame. Those engines need direct injection BADLY.

That being said, both cars are pretty overpriced for what you get thanks to all the recent competition in that sub-$40k price range.

Unless the new display drivers fix the tiny bit of graininess in black colors or improves crossfire, I don't see any reason to use the new Asus or AMD drivers.

Now I get 24-25 at stock, it is a hunting game so no need for 80-100 fps anyway :)

It was an install over the AMD Mobility Radeon™ 11.8 from here:

I like the fact now you can select games to show if crossfire is running (or was that in previous versions? )

Also the RadeonPro has an option to install :)

I just downloaded it and installed it but when I try to run it I am greeted by a message saying AMD Overdrive failed to start.
They wouldn't be banned, at least not because of one report. With one report you get a warning, with two you get one infraction point, with multiple warnings you gain more infraction points, once you get a dozen infractions within a short period of time you get banned for a set period of time as determined by the moderator.

Abiding by the forum rules isn't hard, and they should have been read before, if not immediately after sign up. I agree that they are good contributors, it would just be nice if they followed the rules a bit more. A double post here or there isn't a problem, but for example 10 posts on one page by one guy displays a blatant disregard for the rules.

I haven't reported anyone and I don't intend to, but it does seem to be a minor problem for some of our newer members in this thread.

It's not a BIOS mod, using stock drivers to overclock with MSI Afterburner.

Then once we get it set, a user there (I think it's Musho) has been modifying our BIOS to flash to our overclocked settings.

And why police this thread, there are a million people who have asked the same question like 100 times, that is a direct violation of the rules, you're suppose to read first and not waste peoples time.

I own a few forums and there's always someone who has to police, it's very counter productive and more wasteful. We spent 10x the server space in and moaning about it... than the original double post

Okely dokely. Tested the new preview drivers. Guess I need BF3, because everything else wasn't much different. I had the drivers shut down on me once when I accidentally spaz clicked the triple-buffering about 4 times in half a second in Deus Ex.

Speaking of Deus Ex though, xfire fps soundly beat 6650 this batch of tests. There is still moderate stutter the farther off of 30 or 60fps it gets, but the average frames was a no contest.

Also I no longer have a 6750m (aww), it's been demoted back to a 6600/6700 series Radeon GPU.

Okay seems like these drivers work once and then it goes back to this stuttering bullcrap. Loading DX I see a stutter effect that's so annoying I want to shoot myself. I will test without Crossfire again, hoping that makes a difference.

Anyone know how to remove the High Performance Profile from the program/game?

I also notice MMLoadDrv.exe isn't running on my system anymore, anyone else notice this? I may have turned it off in services, I can't remember...
