Will the temps level out? I stopped at 15 minutes cause I was afraid the temps would increase over time. Also, would it be better if I just overclocked it to 2ghz and decreased the voltage. I noticed I cant get below 1.0625 volts @ 2.2ghz without errors, but I can drop the voltage a very decent amount just by setting the speed to 2.1ghz. I think I could drop it even way more if I change the speed to 2ghz. Will the performance between 2.2 and 2.0 be noticeable?

Had a question for you guys who overclocked yours to 2.4ghz and increased the voltage. How are your temps? Are you guys using coolers to keep it down?

    Thanks for the help guys!

    pretty damn good deal.
where can i get a deal like that?

the cpu can boil at 100c max.

so running in the 80's is nothing. temps will slowly increase and level out

2.4 would cause the cpu to throttle and overheat running at 100% load for hours.
people who have oc'd to 2.4 probably don't stress their cpu enough to overheat it. That is, running at 2.4 full load for 15 minutes.

Hey guys, I haven't been following this thread for many months, but it's come to my attention that there was a new bios a few months ago that enabled the ability to switch to the dgpu. I found the guide on using the bios ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/601808-k53ta-best-deal-ever-could-271.html#post8386767), but I still do not trust my skills in flashing the bios. Can anyone forward me to a step-by-step guide in doing so? I would appreciate it very much, as I am so interested to see this laptop run at its fullest potential. Thanks!

Don't know if this was just my cpu but when I went from 2.0 to 2.2 I saw about a 1-3 fps increase (maybe) or so in certain areas of games other than that not a huge increase at all. These increases were only in certain areas within the game as well. For some reason though dropping the cpu to 2.0 @ 1.0v was a major decrease in heat even compared to 2.2

I prefer keeping my pc cooler because I can play games for 10+ hours, only those ones are usually games that draw less heat to begin with so it's in the 60's at that point.

So I have another problem with this laptop. It's my temps of battery while I'm doing LIGHT gaming. they skyrocket, like seriously skyrocket. Here I am playing Football Manager 2012 on battery. The match starts and my temps start increasing, but they don't stop or level out. watching the match proceed and im hitting 85 degrees plus even 90. Now this makes no sense at all to me. Playing this same game on battery I would probably hit 60-65 at most. And off battery while its getting hot my fan is spinning like crazy, making the most noise I have heard so far.

Now I am on power saver but the sketchy thing is the temps only go up while i have the game window up. If I have a match going on but its minimized they stay low enough for the most part. But its obvious this has to do with gpu usage, so..how do I stop it?

I don't know what the other components on the board are ready for but I wouldn't ever run it over 80c; it's laptop not a blow dryer.

Also I tried this bluetooth/wifi card for $10 on ebay and the lappy wont boot at all with the new card in; should i try a different bios version I'm using the 214?

Actually I heard usb 3.0 doesn't work without the first installing the Asus driver before the latest AMD one.

Sorry for replying so late. Thanks for the descriptive information really appreciate it. Yeah, I've been searching around also and I completely agree with everything you said. But I have a question, when the game is finally released will the cpu overclock help a lot with better frame rate? Also, will the gpu overclock also help with frame rate as well? I ask this because some game I don't feel any difference when I overclock to be honest.

Question: I finally decided to try out the 12.4 drivers.
How do I overclock the GPU?

Afterburner no longer works. Catalyst says there should be an option somewhere, but I can't find it.

intel wifi in amd board won't work. it's not whitelisted.

    you need something atheros based.

    12.4 sucks anyway.

Going back to 12.1. Only one that works well for me.

CPU overclock will help a lot and a 'good' overclock of gpu will probably give you 5-6 fps. Overclocking gpu isn't gonna change as much as the cpu will. CPU overclocking to 2.0ghz will have a 100% increase vs a standard 1.4 ghz and if you undervolt then your pc doesn't get nearly as hot.

you probably don't see any different because you might be running at 30 fps already. If the games you're running aren't demanding at all you could just leave your cpu at 1.4 and undervolt it pretty low. There are some charts for safe undervolts somewhere in this thread.

Afterburner needs those 2 missing files (look it up on google "Overclocking after catalyst 12.2" and you need to disable ULPS. There should be a .bat file somewhere that will disable/enable it.

    edit: http://www.overclock.net/t/1088266/ulps-gui-config-utility-enable-disable

I would say use trixx to disable ulps but that program is an epic failure and doesn't like to work.

I did some overclocking today and i noticed something strange. Everytime I select my overclocked setting in k10stat, CPU-Z shows my bus speed going down to ~66.0 instead of 100.9. What would cause this? It makes my speed alot lower, but it usually fixes itself in a few minutes... :/

You are not alone who is getting this, its also happening with my system. Don't bother about it. CPU-Z isn't showing the clock properly. If you check your processor speed in hwinfo64 after overclocking you will get the right speed there. CPU-Z isn't functioning well for some reason.

Uninstall Power4Gear and use the regular 'High Performance'. There is a bug with Power4Gear that likes to put people at P1 state instead of P0 state.

I can't help you with the first part, but as far as I can tell, no. You can't upgrade to the 3550MX as it is a 45w chip. From what I've seen (and I could be wrong) the best 35w chip available is the A8-3520M

After running driver sweeper, run CCleaner Registry Cleaner, there's still some files left in the registry you should remove... Run it twice as it doesn't pick up everything the first go around...

I'm pretty sure you can. That came out the same time our a6-3400 chips came out. bios won't have any issue reading that.
the HP guys upgraded their cpu. plug and play.

It will use more power, so you may need to buy a 120w power adapter.

    yes.

the memory controller is on the chip.

practically speaking though, all these upgrades are useless unless you get a killer deal on the parts. the 6650m is more powerful than the 6620g even with 1600 ram.

Link626, i saw one post in this thread that one guy upgraded his laptop processor from A6-3400M to A8-3530MX. 3530MX uses the same TDP as 3550MX , 3400M uses the 35w TDP while 3550MX uses 45W TDP. I am not sure what was his laptop brand. Thats why i asked about its compatibility with asus laptop. Are you sure that it will support?

If you don't care that the A8 4500M and A10 4600M are faster cpu's with newer integrated graphic chips (7440g&7640g) ( for better future proofing on games), and you like tinkering under the hood as a hobby then sure go ahead and upgrade parts.

But like Link said I don't think it's worth it since the newer cpus are going to be better in many ways more efficient so more performance with the same power consumption as the llanos, temps may be a little lower, etc. Notebooks with the new chips plus dedicated graphics are bound to be between $450-$650 in the next 3 months (on a good deal of course). 7000 series graphics will be supported atleast a year longer than 6000 series based on AMD radeon's history of always dropping old graphic drivers to legacy drivers.

I have already tried the driver sweeper software and cleaned the registry, but still its not showing that option.

are you sure it's the graphic drivers and not the chipset one? They look like the same when you install them. Chipset driver file is around 25-30Mb and video drivers are 120-130Mb

Anyone else having issues with BF3? Ever since they had an update on origin the game feels like it keeps on dipping. I even look at my FPS and they are above 30 fps but it's like it has a micro stutter but doesn't feel like a micro stutter and it defiantly feels different from crossfire.

    Edit: Nvm fixed it :)

link626, i am getting a blinking line at top of my laptop screen. my system was running continuously from the last 8 hours, without gaming. After restarting laptop, there was no line on the screen. was it because of graphic card high temp or its a defect in laptop? And i am normally getting 75 to 82C temp while gaming.

I think it may be graphic driver related. But I never knew what that glitch really was--just hope I never see it again :).
    Onimask mentioned a fix here>> http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/601808-k53ta-best-deal-ever-could-321.html?#post8544828

I only had it when I first installed 12.2 drivers, but a clean install of 12.1 using ATIman uninstaller helped rid it for me.

Ya 12.1 is the only driver that gave me a flicker that's why I use 12.4. When using 12.4 make sure you are not using AMD Overdrive or it will override everything else. Also Do not use Power4Gear.

214 is fine. I updated to that bios since I got a new MO/BO and am having 0 problems.

i'm pretty sure the flickering line at the top of the screen is driver related.

i was able to create the flicker once by having external monitor thru hdmi, then using the system tray control panel to turn off video feed to the external monitor, then turning feed back on.

I haven't messed with the system tray icon since then, and I haven't seen the flickering line.

I'm still running on 12.4 catalyst, and i don't have any flickering line, but i've had 2 random black screen freeze/autoreboots. Dunno if it's due to 12.4. The crash dump suggests it's AMD's fault- Error: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR \atikmpag.sys
but I just shrug it off ....... since AMD DRIVERS SUUUCK !

so like others, i have pretty good fps on d3 until mobs appear. when they do, i have considerable lag.

i run 2.0 ghz / 1.025 V, gpu oced to 640 / 960, amd catalyst 12.1 (high performance for d3 obviously), tried dual graphics on and off (this actually makes no difference on my performance).

not sure if any particular thing is bottlenecking the performance. should i try oced processor higher? update drivers to 12.4? any ideas?

    thanks!

how about bumping up the voltage a little bit at 2ghz.

i tested some undervolting a while ago, and I noticed some throttling while stress testing lower pstates. I am not sure if it was due to barely enough voltage, however it doesn't seem to happen when i'm running default voltage.

you should be able to run default voltage at 2ghz no problem.

also, you don't want dual graphics here, since it will throttle the cpu to give resources to the igp.

I currently have an acer as you can see in my sig. I might want to get one of these little machines as an upgrade. Can I upgrade the CPU to something like an A8? Or is the cpu soldered onto the motherboard?

    Cheers

    Hihi!

I'm testing windows 8 cp. The latest AMD driver for win8 supports dual graphic however it's not working for me at all. I can see in the device manager both graphic cards, but I don't have that function in the settings, to choose between them.
    Has anyone tried yet?

    -Right click on your desktop
    -Click 'Configure switchable graphics'
-Browse for the .exe file that runs your game
    -Select High performance

This will enable the good graphics card.

Also I would recommend an overclock on the CPU

doing those two things should give you more than enough performance :)
