Well, there's one difference between 214 and 212. Option for Memory Hole Remapping that was in 212 is missing in 214! Whatever that is for!~ :p

Any idea what this is (the grey dot in the middle of the arrow, to show that it covers the arrow & anything else)? I've had it since maybe October last year..it's not a dead pixel.. maybe it's multiple dead pixels?

I wonder if maybe it's a piece of dust in between the screen??! It won't move when toyed with though. Figured I'd try to figure this out if I decide to sell it. I'd rather not have to ding the price for something easily fixable. I've never seen anything like it myself, though.

The thing is still visible with the laptop powered off if I shine an LED at it from certain angles. It also appears as black against a black background, unlike the red the dead pixels usually are.

    Zero Bright Dot (ZBD) Guarantee

A bright dot refers to a pixel with a defect in its ability to display the correct color output. Notebooks with one or more bright dot within 30 days of original purchase date will qualify for a free panel exchange. The ZBD policy does not cover LCD panels with dead pixels e.g. dark/black dot type. Only the LCD panel will be replaced, not the entire notebook. Please refer to your authorized ASUS Service Center or Reseller for your product specific terms.

    well damn.... =(

    but then there's this too

    "B. TFT LCD Defect Policy
Despite the highest possible standards, the intricate manufacturing of thin-film transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD) screens may still produce slight visual imperfections. These visual imperfections do not impair the performance of your ASUS notebook. However, ASUS will provide the warranty service for your ASUS notebook’s TFT LCD screen when there are at least: (a) 3 bright dots or 5 dark dots or 8 bright and/or dark dots in total; or (b) 2 adjacent bright dots OR 2 adjacent dark dots; or (c) 3 bright and/or dark dots within an area of 15 mm in diameter. These are standard TFT LCD screen warranty conditions offered by TFT LCD manufacturers. ASUSTeK will therefore, at its option, repair or replace the product."

    http://service.asus.com/Warranty.aspx

    http://www.asus.com/999/html/share/5/icon/carefree/index.htm

I'd need a magnifying glass to count how many pixels it affects.... unless they just mean entire dark dots, not 8-9 making one LARGE dark dot. Ughshh

Anyway, I never sent in that warranty registration card either.. hope that's cool....

better call and make sure your warranty is intact before sending in.

also, perhaps you can email those pictures to asus to see if they say it's ok to rma.

I bought and returned 3 of these last Fall because of lcd defects like that.

Did you test it with 1Fill/0Fill or you did the random test? Because I got something like you with 1Fill/0Fill (Read 415.6 and Write 429.6) test and when doing random i got results like I've already posted.

Ok, well while I'm waiting on someone to answer the SATA speed question on the Acer, I went with the 12.4 video driver & the 12.2 CCC combo & now my BF3 fps is back to good enough for me LOL.

I thought having a chiclet keyboard would help me play it on the laptop screen, but 15.6" is just too small =( time to turn on the 18.5 or 40 & use my external chicky =S

17" would be fine though LOL, might just jump on it even before SATA speeds are confirmed..

Just got my 128G Crucial M4 today ! Installed it and installed all the chipset driver, only able to get 260++ mb/s .. Window system index primary disk got 7.8 over 7.9..
After I've flashed the moded bios , read speed jumps to 470++ and write @ 20x++ !

I tried to overclock the gpu (650/950) but after 1 hour bf3 nice colorful cubes everywhere but the game runs :D I can switch back to windows but I think beacuse of the other gpu.
This means it cannot handle the overclock right?
The temps are fine top 70 celsius.

yes, it can't handle oc. keep it stock.
50mhz isn't going to give you more than 2 extra fps, and you run the risk of making your gpu fail permanently.

the hp guys tried to overclock their 6750m and they ran into some problems.

Simply incredible speeds  .1 second slower :p . Really great info!! I'm still using the default slow 500gb HD, so all of this sounds really amazing & promising for a future upgrade when I'm all done playing 20 pc games installed simultaneously.. ;) I bet game load times will be atleast a little faster. I just wish 256 gb SSD drives would come down to more sane prices like $100 . But I know I could always use an external 2 TB drive for extra space.

Samsung 256gb series 830 is on sale.. I know everyone wants that one.. I went Crucial.. it is what it is LOL..

Wish I held out though for a bigger 2nd SSD.. the 512gb Crucial went on sale days after getting the second SSD..

Oh well, my new Acer has room for 3.. so I can get a third now tehehe.

Gonna contact ASUS asap to see about the screen issue & then this will be up for sale.

heres a quick video I made on the Diablo 3 performance, FRAPS video capture kills frame rate by 30FPS, without it enabled I get 60fps and dropping to maybe 15 in very heavy 4player online action. most the time I'm between 60 and 40 FPS on low settings.

amd unofficial beta catalyst driver 9.00 is supposed to make fixed mode graphics unnecessary, and allow dgpu to run opengl automatically.

unfortunately, it crashes during installation for the k53ta, and gives a black screen with some weird white fading effect.
This happens even on the stock bios.

    Hello,
1)i have a K53TA with A6-3400 and original 214 bios from Asus Site.
I bought a Crucial M4 256GB SD to change my hard disk.If i connect the SSD in the hard disk slot, i can upgrade the SSD firmware or i must necessary use a caddy connected on the DVD port?

2)the original bios 214 supports SATA3 on the two SATA port (hard disk and dvd) or only on the dvd rewriter port?

    Thanks.
    Sorry for my bad english.

    1. idk how to upgrade the SSD firmware, but if it says 000F on the physical SSD, you are already running the latest firmware.

but you would just connect it like any normal drive to upgrade it.. just put it in either the HDD or optical bay (with a caddy for optical)

    2. it supports both the HDD & DVD for SATA III 6gbps

to get the 6gbps speeds you will need to use one of the modded bios files that were posted recently.

use the bios file linked above

P.S. - I'm using the Acer now, but had the same thing happening with the ASUS. It's something with the SSDs. When I'm scrolling on a webpage or even just moving the mouse pointer around, sometimes I here a weird frequency as either action is taking place, & it sounds like it's something in the SSDs

    - I ran these in the ASUS & now the Acer - they are on sale w/rebate - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-062812-Index-_-LaptopMemory-_-20145281-L010D

Has anyone had any luck with the new AMD 12.6 or beta 12.7s just released? I've tried upgrading directly from the ASUS 12.4s (12/31/11) to 12.6 but it never sticks. Everything proceeds and finishes as normal, but CCC still shows catalyst version is 12.4. Doing the built in CCC auto-update just redownloads and reinstalls 12.6 again, but it never sticks. Done the usual troubleshooting, clean uninstalls/safe mode/drivercleaner etc.

    Anyone else having issues?

EDIT: Nevermind, I finally got the clean 12.6 WHQL to stick. That was a pain in the though, I attempted the 12.7 betas first and they caused all sorts of inconsistencies.

    holy crap

    AMD finally succeeded.

official catalyst 12.7 beta makes fixed mode unnecessary now.

You can now set opengl apps to high performance, and the dgpu will run it.

No need to switch manually anymore.

    took them long enough
