Great news about openGL! Big thanks for the heads up! Can't wait to try these but before I do, I want to research & be sure it's bug free. Maybe I'll finally get updated like everyone else. I'm curious to see how game benchmarks will fare against the older 12.1 drivers....I'm crossing my fingers for a near perfect driver  finally  .

I used furmark and cinebench to test, and it looks fine for me. I've never oc'd my gpu.

Hey guys.. I still have my K53TA, haven't called ASUS yet to check if RMA-able for the dead pixel group..

Anyway, may need to call Acer now too because of this:

Acer Aspire 7750G Buzzing Sound - YouTube

Think it's loud enough to get RMAed? Any suggestions? At least I have the ASUS to fall back on in the meantime lol

you sure that's not the audio buzzing? mute it.

even gpu whining doesn't sound like that

It's muted in the video. All you hear is the fan the entire time + the buzzing sound whenever I tabbed into the game.

    then it's time for rma.

nah. I'll pass. I only ran furmark and cinebench, and the frame rates are exactly the same.
the only recent opengl game is Rage, and I deleted that trash a long time ago.
performance will most likely feel the same.

however, amd says that dx9 hybrid xfire has been supported since the last few drivers.
I'm going to install batman and test that.

ghost recon future soldier performs noticeably faster in xfire, but there is rapid flicker. No microstutter though.

Do you guys enable UEFI boot in BIOS?
saw it in certain forum said that it can make laptop boot up even faster, I tried to enabled it ( BIOS 214 Sata6gbps fixed )
my boot time didn't go lower..

    OR
I've to reinstall windows 7 in order to see the difference?

sorry I've zero knowledge in BIOS / UEFI..

    newest CAP addresses the flicker.
but it's not perfect. still a little flicker.

i wasn't expecting a higher score. same score is good enough

dx9 xfire does not work with batman. Dx11 mode xfire does work, but is very laggy. Worse than dgpu alone.

you win some, you lose some.

hmm my keyboard is sort of unhinged from my laptop (if you see there are sort of these 8 ledges that go under your casing). One of these 8 ledges are above the casing and I'm not sure how to go about putting it back under. Any advice?

Any chance of a misplaced screw somewhere (if you opened up your laptop). I had that problem once, and it was just a screw that got in the way (I think that's what happened anyways).

Well I updated to 12.7 beta! And it's an excellent driver (maybe the best one yet) for me. Everything is better than 12.1. I'm running everything in crossfire now (dual radeon gpus). Update: Disabling dual graphics or single gpu configuration is still generally a little better than crossfire in performance but both options are ok. CAP1 'maybe' helped crossfire a little.
Even Batman AC seems fine on my setup. I didn't notice the flicker yet....
My Preliminary testing of 12.7beta was done at 1360x768.
    I oc cpu to B0 2.4GHZ P0 2.0ghz P1 1800, and
oc gpu with msi afterburner to 640/960.

So far 12.7beta seems near perfect for the following games:
SKYRIM 1366x768 30-60FPS (maybe avg 42fps; FPS was around 35-52 very good!) FELT much smoother & faster!! no hud problems

RAGE (openGL game)-No fixed mode is required!! :)--GPU1 and GPU2 work in crossfire!! NO freezing BUGS and getting 36FPS avg --Very smooth not buggy at all!!
BATMAN ACity 1366x768 58FPS max 42-43avg -better than 12.1 by a little bit
    BATMAN AAsylum1366x768 176FPS max 51 avg--so better than 12.1 by a little bit
Rayman origins perfect 60FPS --same performance as 12.1 driver since it's an easy game to run.

I want to test more games later....so I will post again later.

Interesting, I have the exact same setup as you (went from 12.1 to 12.7b, same gpu and cpu overclock). Can also confirm huge performance increase in Skyim with identical fps as yours. Overall pretty safe bet.

batman ac doesn't have flicker. But it runs laggy for me in xfire with the same graphics settings as single gpu.
for example, at the very beginning when you play as catwoman. dgpu is smooth. but xfire feels much slower.

did you use amd system monitor to confirm that both gpu's are running in crossfire for openGL ?

Anyone else getting an odd error after installing the 12.7b? CCC refuses to start; it just does nothing and gives no taskbar icon.

Ran driver sweeper, reinstalled 12.7b, now it's saying "Could not load file or assembly 'CLI.Implementation' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified." on a popup everytime I try to run CCC.

Is this normal? Should I try to reinstall CCC from another driver set? Was there a specific beta for mobile or does it matter?

Edit: Installed the CCC from mobile 12.6 and it worked again. Odd the CCC from the beta doesn't work.

you screwed something up. CCC works fine here.

did you get the june 26 version of 12.7b ?

if i can't successfully install a new driver directly over an old one, usually i uninstall old ati crap by uninstalling driver in device manager and deleting driver files. Then manually delete all ati* files in system32 and syswow64 folder. reboot and install fresh driver

You have to read some more. The uefi support for only gpt disk for larger storage, mbr has 2tb limit. so if you wants to go over 2tb enable uefi.
otherwise it has no use, no advansed uefi feature bar gpt, its just plain old bios

You're right Link, it's laggy for me as well, but also I never installed 12.7b CAP1 but I see the stroby lag you're talking about.
    - update: It turned out I was using older ATI.dll files when using MSI afterburner causing conflicts with CCC drivers. Now overclocks work fine like before with more recent ATI.dll files used for MSIab!
    - Update: Dual gpu/ single gpu issues were triggered by MSI afterburner oc (due to using older ATI.dll oc files); so oc with MSI still works! :)
    - Also games still run better without crossfire.
-Also Rage (openGL game) does in fact run fine automatically accessing the dgpu (as indicated by amd sys monitor & hwinfo64..so a complete success here.

I ran into the following issues with 12.7beta (due to MSI old ati dll files):
1)on initial install the dgpu didn't work, and AMD system monitor & HWinFo64 indicated no activity or 27mhz. Rebooting fixed it but set it on "enable radeon dual graphics."
2)If I changed to disable dual graphics, it would again have disabled dgpu and inactive 6600m or 27mhz .
3)(Unrelated to MSI conflict) fixed mode plays subpar, so I don't think it has a purpose anymore if these drivers work bug free on OpenGL...eg. Rage works perfectly on regular (non-fixed mode).

-I use radeon pro to assess /indicate FPS in games so this program still works for that purpose.
-Final conclusion: 12.7beta seems like a worthy update to older drivers 12.1,11.12 etc.

i think there may be a conflict with msi and other 3rd party programs, because I have none of those installed, and my drivers are fine, with the exception of laggy xfire in some games.

I do have cap 12.7b installed, and I had it installed when trying batman ac in xfire mode.

I had an issue for a while where drivers will install for the 6600M / 6700M graphic card, but not for the 6520G integrated. So for instance, after installing the 12.7 beta drivers, my Radeon 6600M and 6700M in device manager will report having the new 8.981.2.0 drivers, but the 6520G was reported to be paired with 12.1 drivers from before. Opening up AMD VISION Engine Control Center showed me having 12.1 drivers in the software information panel (maybe it only grabs the data off of what is installed for 6520G?).

I don't know what I did but I finally got both the 6520G and 6600M/6700M to be on 8.981.2.0 drivers, but I would like to not get into a situation where only one driver gets updated again.

Any suggestion for a 'proper' way to install AMD drivers so that I don't end up with 12.7 beta on 6520G and 12.7 on Radeon 6600M / 6700M when the 12.7 WHQL version does come out?

so, looking through this thread, it has convinced me to pick one of these up for myself.

what are some honest cons that i should expect with my purchase?

also, the op post is outdated; would any kind soul give me a comprehensive list of updates that i should make for it? i am not as computer savvy as i would like to be (this will actually be my first foray into overclocking and whatnot), and the laptop that i am receiving will be reformatted to factory condition.

    Honest con?
Gonna be some trial and error on driver side, other than that is pretty smooth.

Get it to run fine(or great) for most thing-> easy
Get it to run optimally perfect on every aspect -> Dun even think about it.

it's built like crap, so handle it carefully.

updates = get latest drivers. that's all.

with the newest drivers, it's almost perfect for a $400 laptop.

I don't expect xfire to always work, so i won't deduct points for that.

The only cons i have find so far are:
1- Some units tend to run hot for no reason. (repaste solve problem often)
2- Lack of vent under cpu so cooling pads are no use. (While u repaste drill holes where the cpu is and gpu as well)
3- Drivers are not as good as nvidia one (they are gettin better now)
4- There's no way to control fan speed

But that's only problems I've found for myself and I don't really care about them. While light gaming I'm running the same clock speed than stock but undervolted without problem. If I need a boost while raiding 25 man in WoW I just OC to 2.3-2.6ghz and I don't have any problems at all. I would highly recommand this laptop to anyone.

    Amen

I've run mine with a Crucial M4 128GB for almost a year now, and it's been great.

I also replaced my dvd drive with the old HDD for extra space for games and such, which I highly recommend if you need some more space. The dvd drive was so slow and so noisy, it was just begging to be taken out and turned into a peripheral.

hmm is there anyway to o/c the vid card ? I am using the 12.7b drivers.

also should i have 'dual graphic cards' enabled in ATI c/p ? I do atm.. and i have noticed some games seem to use the 65xx while other things use the 67xx ? I would of thought it would be better if everything uses the 67xx ???

Oc gpu is still possible on MSI Afterburner with these 2 more recent oc ati dll files ; these were posted in the past & working since AMD 12.2. You have to place them in the following locations:
    atipdl64.dll - to - \Windows\system32\
    atipdlxx.dll - to - \Windows\SysWOW64\
    REBOOT
You can also copy both files into MSI Afterburner main folder. It works too.
(but I found MSI sometimes causes instability, graphical corruptions, crashes & not as much advantage as before eg. Dirt3, BatmanAC, BF3).

-I still prefer to disable dual radeon graphics since I notice micro stutter or micro lag in games. (After CAP1 things still didn't change much)
-I wouldn't worry too much about which graphic card is used as long as your games or applications are playing well. Even when dual graphics is disabled, generally I noticed games use the dgpu mostly with a little help asymmetrically from the 6520g. (asymmetric crossfire) AMD system monitor, hwinfo64, and msi gpu usage graphs indicate this.
    12.7 beta benchmarks
-I made an excellent benchmark post of our laptop with before & after FPS from 12.1-to->12.7beta. Most games are generally improved, with the exception of a few games.

    - Games with improvement over 12.1: Dirt3, Mass Effect 3, SKYRIM, Batman AC&AA, Split Second, & Rage (OpenGL accesses dgpu now!)
-Games with same performance: CODMW3, Crysis 2, and Ridge Racer
-Games with slightly less performance (I found negligible & unnoticeable): BF3 (still ok but 12.1 had maybe 1-2 better FPS),RE5 (Difference is too small 0.5FPS)

    -professional benchmarks are here>> http://benchmark3d.com/amd-catalyst-12-7-beta-benchmark

thanks heaps for all the info :)

I tried using those files but it didnt seem to do anything. (I tried putting in the windows directories and main msi directory with reboots etc). The numbers dont seem to show up like they should, just remains blank, same as if i didnt use those special files. One thing was that when I put the files on my computer they didnt replace any existing files.. not sure if they should have ?

    thanks again

If you never overclocked gpu before then you also have to follow steps in the guide wiki below>>scroll down to V. Overclocking GPU.

You will find instructions to edit the msi.cfg file and edit the registry (created by HTwingnut) to unlock gpu overclocking capability.

I just downloaded 12.6 and got that weird black to white to black fading thing, and it only works in safe mode. What can I do? The only thing to note on my machine is the modded bios and overclocked.

i got that black/white fading waffle thing when I installed an unofficial beta driver version 9.00.
It has nothing to do with modded bios, as stock bios does it too.

but 12.6 should not do that.

install the official 12.7 beta instead.
