Well I got it up and going. I'm not sure what did it, but I uninstalled MSI and manually deleted ATI drivers in System32 and Syswow - BUT now the device manager is saying I'm missing my SM Bus Controller?! ?!! SHEESH!! Where do i find that?

    UPDATE

Nevermind! SHEESH this update was painful!!!

I've done a fresh install of windows 7 with 12.6 chipset and 12.7b update and I've notice that my temps are a bit lower than 12.1 chipset/gpu update.. around 5C.. I max temp @ 58C and before it was 63-65C

It was.after 2-3 hours of gaming (WoW) on ultra settings. Freq. was the same than normal (1.4-2.3Ghz) but undervolted. No gpu O/C while light gaming.

I repasted my chips yesterday, and am almost feeling like it's worse.

I removed the green squishy heat tape between the gpu ram, and also the one on the mini chip between the cpu and gpu and coated them with paste instead, not sure if that was the right move.

My stupid brother-in-law was playing on my pc unsupervised and I think overheated my machine, as I had seen possible artifacting on the screen when I got back on it. That or may be from the 12.7b drivers, I'm seeing 2 inch horizontal lines in my screen corner. So I thought I'd repaste just to be safe.

    Any thoughts?

you may have screwed the laptop yourself.

I don't know what the heatsink looks like, but unless the ram chips and dgpu are at the same height, you're going to get bad contact on either after taking off the tape.

you may have caused the overheating yourself.

Looks like it really overheated. The heatpads are thicker then normal paste. You need good contact between the chips and the heatsink. Use a coppershim with paste on both sides ;)

Guys, i really need some help with my k53ta notebook. Yesterday i was playing WOW and suddenly the notebook gave me a blue screen error. No problem with this, it did the restart everything came back to normal after that. So i started thinking that probably my drivers were outdated (i was using 12.4), i uninstalled the drivers and downloaded the new version 12.6. Tried to install these drivers but without succes, i mean, the drivers are installing but my video card doesn't get recognized by them. I have tried everything, even went back to 11.2 drivers, not success. I can't change the resolution, whatever drivers i'm installing they won't get recognized, i don't know what to do, except send my notebook to warranty.

This is how device manager looks like and i even tried a Fix it solution from Microsoft. Please help. :(

I did a fresh OS install. Windows 7 Professional x64, installed the 12.4 drivers but it failed again. See the image below, now the code has been changed to code 10.

alright, i'm posting from my new k53ta! i've joined the club.

i like the design of it; it's not as clunky as i was originally expecting. the keys are a little clickier than i'm used to, but they seem firm enough.

the immediate thing that i find myself missing is the vertical scroll gesture; are my drivers outdated, or does the laptop not support touchpad gestures?

also, typing with the laptop on my bed, it seems to heat up on the bottom left side of the laptop first. is this common?

probably. under full load, the area below the spacebar gets hottest.

you can't block the vents with your blankets. you need to put it on a book or something

i bought mine via craigslist; the previous owner was very tech savvy and did a reformat, installed w7 pro, and installed all of the drivers and updates for me prior to shipping.

what kind of touchpad drivers does this use? synaptics by chance?

oh.. well in that case! it's either synaptics or elantech. i don't have mine on right now to check

    ASUS - Notebooks- ASUS K53TA

download both & just use whichever one installs.

Mine has the elantech drivers on it, and multi-touch gestures work fine! So just install the latest from the driver page, and you should be good to go

nice, sounds like my dead pixel group is covered, so asus told me to take it to best buy to have them send it for service..

just need to decide which to send in first... the asus or the acer. i still need to have a computer LOL..

i'm selling the asus after it's repaired, but that still doesn't help me decide which to send first lol

is there a laptop (voltage, i guess?) performance difference from when the laptop is plugged in and when it isn't?

i have set up a k10 profile that's both overclocked and undervolted, and i was curious to see if it would run fine on battery.

here is a picture of my set up:

would there be a reason that I can't get my Kstat to lock the clock speed? Are there more than one version? When I am on battery mode I try and lock them to 800 but they always spike when I do something to 2300. Maybe I don't know how to use kstat, but I'm pretty sure I have everything correct...

Nevermind... I think I got it. I turned off enable clock control and turned it back on and it seems to have stabilized.

i just modify the registry key to make it say 12.7b so I know what i have.

You know you have latest drivers by looking at the version numbers of the components

you can run all of them together for the whole day. but 1% of the time, even if it looks stable, it may not be. I've had computer freeze for too low voltage before

not for cpu, since you can OC both A6 and A8 to same levels.

igp is a little better. But do you even use the IGP?

it might work better in crossfire though, as it closes the gap between igp and 6650m

Did we ever get a solid answer on a LCD panel we could replace ours with? I understand the cable that comes with ours may not accept a 1080p panel.
