Any 768p with the connector on the lower right side will work ( viewing in front of panel)
But generally not worth it.
There was rumor(one of the newegg review iirc) people use G-series cable and screen to get 1080p but not confirmed.
Technically 1080p is possible since the dv6z is capable(even w/o dGPU model), but I fried one screen trying HP 768p cable, not sure it is the cable(99%) or I did something wrong though(1%).
-
yeah, after baiii fried his lcd's, I was too afraid to even consider a 1080p screen
also, i read that you lose webcam function if you upgrade to 1080p -
. Cable is working fine after on my HP with another screen.
-
Not worth it if it might fry my screens. Maybe when I am about to replace this one I could try it. -
-
any guinea pigs here wanna buy an asus cable ?
-
-
with the beta driver i got random crash on bf3 any idea? gpu isn't oc'ed
-
I tried the G53 series cable already and got 1080p working, but as link said, webcam didn't work. Webcam didn't work because the cable had no webcam
Worlds Greatest Site for Asus Spare Part
That was the cable that I used. You can probably find a cheaper one somewhere.
If you attempt, do be very careful and I recommend an anti-static wrist strap. This procedure is especially prone to something happening with static. Don't want that to happen and ruin your motherboard and screen, since the year-long warranty could be ending any day now... -
-
i wonder if there is a way to splice the webcam wires to the dual link lvds cable........
-
That would be more than I would be willing to risk. I have an external 720p webcam I like to use more anyway. I wonder if the webcam is going off of some usb lines though?
-
Yeah, it's a big difference in quality. I'm fine with sticking to 768p though.
I bought a 1080p matte screen from here:
ASUS G53JW replacement Laptop LCD Screen from $64.99 Brand-new screens (never used).
So yes, G53 screen. If you buy this screen, I believe the LVDS port was on the opposite side of the K53 screen's port, so you might want one of those LVDS adapter things. Its not entirely necessary as the cable reaches, it just bends awkwardly. You also don't even need to use the G53 screen, as there are plenty of others that could work. I just figured it would be a close match. -
So you just left in your old screen?
-
Yea, lol. That's pretty much it.
-
which atheros model came with the lappy? is it the ar5b95?
i've got 2 cards here & i can't remember which it came with....
also, if only using 1 stick of RAM, should it be in the front or back slot? not sure if that matters these days.. -
-
That's what I have -
My wireless connection keeps dropping, even though I replaced the old router with a new one. Maybe its my laptop's wireless card that's having this problem? I had a compaq before this and I never remember it dropping wireless signal. This laptop loses it signal at least 2-3 times a day and maybe more. Can someone please help me out
.

lol so I went ahead and ordered a new replacement keyboard for my k53 because the return key just broke. Does anyone have any info on a decent keyboard that I can replace this thing with?
I am also considering ordering that bluetooth+wireless card.

As far as modding goes this laptop has been amazing!! -

At like 80 bucks for the screen, that seems like a good value for the benefit.
-
It seems the 12.7b really makes my screen flicker when streaming stuff. Anyone else havign that problem?
-
no screen flicker here
-
-
I DID get it working. I used that very screen from the G53. It works fine, I just decided to keep the stock for awhile just to avoid any unnecessary strain on the igpu and to retain use of my webcam.
Sorry for the slow reply, just been travelling cross-country and been on the road. -
if only it were easy to get the lvds cable from the k73ta.
almost no one sells the cable. gotta buy from europe for ripoff price. -
hello guys,
I aplogize for the stupid question but what is the point of the higher resolution screen while gaming, I understand for other applications it would be great but this laptop when overclocked can run tf2 at medium settings at the standard 1366x768. Maybe if we had better hardware, like an a10 or something. -
I did it for the love of tinkering. Sometimes, there doesn't need to be a point!
Also, TF2 should be pretty much maxed out while OC'd... I don't think you're trying very hard if you can only get it to medium at the native resIt's a pretty low-end game when it comes to graphics.
-
On that note, do you think upgrading to a higher end cpu would be better for this laptop? The modding possibilities for this thing is endless! I have a wireless card on order and a replacement keyboard (the return key broke) and also am looking into getting a HDD caddy for the dvd bay. (will let you guys know how this goes)
PS about my previous question, has anyone seen a chiclet style keyboard for this laptop that works? If so can I get a model and link? -
CPU freq at 2.8ghz? Are you sure you're running the A6-3400m processor? It isn't stable at those frequencies unless you're able to keep it cool. Your problem might be that it throttles itself down to the lowest P state constantly because of the high temperatures generated. Try going down to at least 2.2 ghz. I like to run it at 2 ghz because that seems to be the sweet spot for keeping mine cool and fast.

Exactly. I want the higher res for photos and videos more than gaming. I am sure it would look fine playing at lower resolutions on a higher res screen. I wouldn't mind just having a 720p screen that is just good quality. -
Guys I am wondering if any of you think you know what my problem is...
When in a video game and loading new areas I get huge lag spikes that aren't normal. Now let me fill you in on some tests I have done and other stuff..
-I have tested my memory and they seem to be just fine
-I have tested both graphics cards (no issues or artifacts/haven't OC'ed them) temps are normal
-I have tested my CPU (stock speeds & boost) temps are normal
-ALSO I had this problem before I sent my PC in for an RMA and when I got my computer back they had replaced my entire motherboard so it can't be my cpu or gpu's
-The ONE thing i have noticed is when I tried to defrag my computer i had some interesting issues that I haven't had before, I would say that the issue has to be my harddrive (which would me off cus my first one killed itself within the first month and i had it replaced) My hdd is the 7200rpm since I have the A53TA-XE2
anyone else have thoughts on this? I think it's my harddrive and if so I'm prob gonna buy a completely new brand but I don't wanna buy a new one for nothing nor send for an rma and get the same crap hardware i had to begin with.
Edit: In fact.. I have had actual legit tests and there is def a prob with my hdd.... sigh.. I will have to try a reinstall or be forced to get a different hdd all together -.-
if so anyone know any hdd that will work with this thing? -
yeah. unusually long lag is often from bad hard drive sectors.
if you use Seagate diag tool, it will list and try to reallocate the bad sectors.
That's what I did with mine. I had bad sectors that would keep crashing my laptop. Seagate tool 'fixed' them, so that I wouldn't have to waste my time with RMA. I plan to use my credit card warranty after 1 year to get a better free hdd replacement.
it's the luck of the draw. you can only do basic maintenance like daily defrag. But even that is no guarantee.
WD scorpio Blacks seem to be more reliable, though anyone can still get a bad hdd. -

I'm looking to try the 1080 full hd screen as well. What I Plan to do is drop a ssd, upgrade the memory, put that wireless/Bluetooth card in, and try to get that 1080 screen in. I will run the updated drivers on everything and use the non mod bios.
As of right now I got the ssd and the memory in and the computer is working fine. Here are the links to the items I would like to try out
www.LaptopScreen.com
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=261024381142&cmd=VIDESC
And I have a few questions.
With the card will I have to download some drivers or is it aPlug and play?
With the screen has anyone done it with out losing the use of the web cam?
Will there be anything extra then just the screen I will need?
Is there any suprises anyone has ran into updating the screen?
How much of a proformance reduction can I exprect for
768 to 1080? -
The wireless card should work plug-and-play, but search for updated drivers from the manufacturer or other websites.
In order to use a 1080p screen without losing use of the webcam, you must find a dual-channel (40 pin) LVDS cable that branches off to power the webcam as well. The G53 LVDS cable did not have that branch. I also can not guarantee that the motherboard will have enough power going through the 40-pin LVDS cable to support BOTH a 1080p screen AND webcam, at least with perfect stability. I don't know enough about that stuff, but it could be a possible problem that someone else can answer for you.
Just to be clear, you need a 40pin dual-channel LVDS cable in addition to the screen itself in order to make it work. -
Did you use the Lvds cable? I though u said in a post you didn't have to get one. Even if I lose the web cam that would still be ok if I didn't need to but the cable

Hello All.
Almost 3 months ago I bought refurbished Asus K53Ta-BBR6 from newegg. Initially did not pay attention to the graphics performance because I had no time for games
Couple days ago I found that I play in Crysis 2. After couple of seconds (sometimes 15, 30 or even 10s) picture starts to stutter. So I upgrade VGA drivers - but nothing change.
Till today I reinstalled the system (twice), I tried AMD vga and chipset drivers (12.1, 12.2, 12.4, and latest beta 12.7) and same situation.
Bios ver 214 and laptop was never OC by me.
What do You think? APU is bad/overheated?
Any suggestions?
Thanks, -
still does it after defrag? then use seagate tool and scan for bad sectors.
you can always run HWINFO64 and monitor your temps. it will tell you max temps reached. -
I have SSD (Intel 120GB 320) - I forgot to mention.. sorry about that.
But also for tests I was installed Win7 on traditional HDD WD Black 320GB 7200 16MB cache - and the same problems with stuttering.
Regarding temp - I was checked temps via "hwmonitor 1.19 64bit" for 64bit OS win7. Max temps what I noticed are about 81'C GPU and similar CPU's but usually temps oscillate in 71-76'C. In my opinion temp is not as high (my old G73 have higher temps).
What temps You Guys have on this (K53Ta) model ?
I have 8GB of RAM 10600 - and ram was tested by newest 'memtest86+" where the result was 0 errors.
So I don't think that this is problem with hard drive, ram or even temp. I suspect that mayby CPU/APU is overheated (this is refurbished item).
Any suggestions ?
P.S. - I was also checked this situation on "COD World at War" - same problems.
P.S. 2 - I was also checked everything when ambient room temp is ~20'C - same problems. -
A silly suggestion, but did you make sure to go into switchable graphics and set those game apps as High Performance? Because I went full potato the other day and completely forgot, and was wondering why some of my new games were running like sheit -
Yes - of course.
Also I use windows gadget "power status" ( OrbLog » Blog Archive » Power Status – Sidebar Gadget) to switch between "balanced" and "high performance" profile if I playing or browsing (BTW - great gadget).
With this gadget profile is changing also in AMD Control Center.
I will add also that I was tried use "dual GPU" enabled and disabled - unfortunately with no luck
Suggestions ? -
yeah, if only the k73TA cable were easy to order. All the hardware in the k73 is the same as k53ta. same cheap webcam and stuff.
that cable would allow 1080p upgrade
actually, any of the k73 model lvds cables should work.
This for example...
14G221037002 Part. Asus 14G221037002. Asus UNKNOWN PARTS
$30 shipped.
partstore is owned by bestbuy, and they seem to have a lot of these lvds cables available.
Also, shipping cost is reasonable, and they cover return shipping cost if the item doesn't work.
should be no sales tax for most
part number is 14G221037002 or 14G221037001
I called Asus directly, and they do not sell these parts. So it looks like partstore is the best option for USA customers.
the k73 models all have dual channel lvds and webcams.
who wants to be a guinea pig and take the plunge ? it's a $6 risk. -
I did another test in FurMark..
Look Guys how GPU react... temp jumps up and down, as if the clock was reduced. And then stuttering occurs when temp or timing GPU is jumping/reduced.
The little straight line (GPU 1) is when screensaver turn on (which is also like furmark set to "high performance" in AMD control center).Attached Files:

K53TA.. The best deal ever... could be!
