Hmm. 186.82 isn't downclocking for me. Time to driver hunt.

EDIT: Wait, no. Just as I hit submit it dropped to my 2D underclocks. Life is good.

It uses lan cuz its detected from start. Wireless you usually got to select which one you want to connect to, so maybe its having a hard time connection to your prefered location. try going into windows, turn on wifi, select the NON PASSWORD wifi connection and set it as your default. now try the expressgate.

    Question...
Is the upgrade process really as bad as you guys make it out to be...
Personally, I'd rather not re-install my games on my laptop because I kinda don't have the time to do so. Recently got a job that pops 11 hour shifts like it's candy. I did back up my files of course already but I just want to migrate my files over from vista instead of wiping the drive and starting over again. I already started fresh once with me getting a laptop and reinstalling my games but that was very cumbersome due to me having over 200 games on my laptop (no, I'm not lying - I have alot of legacy games like the Kings Quest Series, Clive Barkers Undying, The Outlaw's, etc. and recent games like Braid, Trine, Cryostasis - tweaked to what I want.) Have TWO 500GB hard drives near full capacity doesn't help and it was a long grueling process to fill the thing up with games from my hard drive and discs. As you can tell, I'd rather not do it again, so the question still remains...

Is the upgrade process of vista to Win7, files and all, as bad as everyone is saying?
As stated before, I'm fine with a clean install but man... If I had to do that I should have just waited for the G72GX :(...

The upgrade path will retain your files, but isn't as ideal as a full clean installation.

And it seems with Win7 CrystalCPUID and CPU-Z are having fights. In Crystal I set my two clocks to be 7.5x @ 1.025v and 11.5x @ 1.188v. CPU-Z gives me readings of either 6.0x @ 1.013v and 11.5x @ 1.300v.

I have a question for all of you -- What was the delivery method for the discs? Was it a USPS drop in your mailbox or a door delivery?

UPS--not USPS--dropped it in my mailbox.

And now RMClock doesn't want to agree with CPU-Z, either.

Thats a good question. If you could install it on another non Asus PC would you want to. Wouldn't it have that Asus badging here and there?

You should use the driver disc and see if that fixes your problems. I also purchased a retail copy of W7. I had a few issues here and there but that drivers disc fixed everything.

iirc, UPS dropped it off at USPS, who dropped it in your mailbox =P its a partner program. Thats how it was for me. You should also see it in your tracking info.

Could be. The tracking number I got, though, was for UPS.

In any case I guess it doesn't matter.

I was thing more on the lines that Asus Win7 is Home. I bought business. I would stick home on my Wife's computer. If Asus just sent a win7 disk and a drivers disk. That way it works out. I can use the disk and use the driver cd to maybe fix ExspressGate thing.

yes, the tracking # is for UPS. UPS ships it to your local post office and then it is delivered en masse to the people in the area. bulk shipments= lower costs.

If you have not recieved your disk's first contact UPS re the tracking info stating delivered. They may pass the buck but in the end they are responsable for delivery as they are the primary shipper............

I was the first one to get the "your windows 7 DVD has been shipped" e-mail, but I still havent got it! and I got that email back on the 5th of November! :(

Looks like something is wrong, i'm not sure who to e-mail though as all the emails come from "[email protected]" and they always have "
*** This is a system generated email, please do not reply to this email ***" at the end of their e-mails :(

quick question, these discs aren't specialized to single computers rite? my friend from china, who moved to america (PA), is coming down to SC for thanksgiving and i thought i mite as well give him windows 7 instead of him waiting for it...or are these OEM upgrades still specialized to one per computer?

After showing "fullfillment in progress" since November 8th I called them today only to be told there was a problem with some Canadian addresses and mine had been rejected by their system - the agent verified the information that was in their system was in fact correct, said she would refer to her supervisor and try to get shipped on Wednesday.......don't know what would have happend if I hadn't called??
Amazing if there is a street name and number, a city and Province name as well as a postal code you would think that would do...LOL
Any other Canadians waiting shippment may also want to check with them.

I just got my DVD today on the 23rd, after Asus telling me that it was shipped on the 5th and should take 7-9 days. Happy I received it none the less. as far as I can see (haven't installed it yet, about to :)), the upgrade DVD has a Product Key on it, which probably means it is limited to one PC only

    hey a few questions:

Can you do a clean install with the disk they send you, or do you have to "upgrade" from windows vista?

Also could you download an OEM version of windows 7 then use the cd key they give you to register? i am in Australia and they want $35 USD for shipping & handling for the "free" upgrade! If all i need is the key i could get it sent to somewere in the USA and have the key emailed..

    Thanks!

You can clean install with the upgrade disc. You do need a previous version of windows there, though. So if you put in a brand new HDD, you have to install Vista on it first and then proceed with the install.

I guess that clears up my confusion between the Upgrade and Full Install version of windows, because I just did a clean install with the upgrade DVD from Asus yesterday (formatted the partition in the setup before installing) and couldnt figure out why Microsoft would sell a Full Install version when you can do it with the upgrade disc!

I got my upgrade disk and driver cd. Haven't had time to mess with it yet, but it looks like the Win7 disk is made for Asus. I'm not sure if it'll install on my other computer. I wonder if I used my Vista business dvd, and used asus Win7 code if that will work, and just install the Home version...?
And on a side note, I got a email saying my $100 rebate from Asus is being processed and should get it in a few weeks. Yay.

Oh, if this is like any other Win7 dvd, for those wanting to do a clean install, it would ask you to insert a valid upgrade windows during the installation process. That's how I did my Win7 business without installing Vista first.

Well its been 10 days and no package even though it says its been delivered. UPS MI deferred me to USPS. USPS said 'Well it shows delivered. There's nothing more we can do and we don't have any further information' and they say I should talk to Asus. Asus refers me to Media Mentor. Shot off an email to Media Mentor Corp so here's hoping I get something out of this...

They'll probably just think I'm trying to get another copy and tell me to F off. And if they do then I WILL be pissed off... :(

    I'm having issues to...

My status, on the Package Tracking site of UPS is OUT FOR DELIVERY since Nov 25 2009 09:50AM. I was told that the package was supposed to be delivered the same day, or the next one.

Its been 7 days and nothing, and UPS doesn't answer my Tracking Inquiries emails. :(

    Anyone having similar problems??

I was a little concerned - the UPS tracking system showed it in Lachine Quebec for the last 3 days with a scan showing it was about to be "Exported" but when I went to the local UPS store to ask them about it they checked and said it was on the truck being delivered today !! When i got home it was here and is being installed on my laptop this very moment.
