also note that the specific system with all those nice specs (820QM, thermal paste, 5300 wifi) costs about 1735USD.

what you get for 1460USD is 720QM @ 1.6GHz (decent, if its overclockable to ~ 2.GHz w/ 4 cores then this will be this shiz), standard thermal paste, standard wifi link......and ur most likely crazy hot gfx card like *most (excluding elemental and forge) of us. O.O

also here is some standard info for ppl who dont know...

    Core i7-720QM
    • 4-Cores stock @ 1.6GHz
    • Turbo Mode of 1/1/6/9 (this means @ 4/3/2/1 cores operation, each is a multiplier of 133MHz so in simple terms, +0MHz/+0MHz/+798MHz/+1197MHz)
    • 3-Cores still @ 1.6GHz
    • 2-Cores @ 2.4GHz
    • 1-Core @ 2.8GHz
    • Yet to figure out if these CPU will be overclockable via SetFSB, we shall find out soon (unless it has been confirmed and i havent see the post yet...)

    Core i7-820QM
    • 4-Cores stock @ 1.73GHz
    • Turbo Mode of 2/2/8/10 (this means @ 4/3/2/1 cores operation, each is a multiplier of 133MHz so in simple terms, +266MHz/+266MHz/+1064MHz/+1330MHz)

I'm UNSURE but judging by how the 720QM works, i guess this is how the 820QM works...

    • 4-Cores @ 2.0GHz
    • 3-Cores @ 2.0GHz
    • 2-Cores @ 2.8GHz
    • 1-Core @ 3.06GHz

PLZ correct me if I'm wrong about the Turbo boost for 4/3 cores, I'm doing this according to Wikipedia.

a stock i7 720QM @ 1.6GHz is still a fair bit faster than a Q9000@2GHz, they are totally different CPUs.

yep, ofc. new gen. tech>old tech. its just the matter of price :performance, the i720QM/820QM are definitely worth it, 920QM is a different story. you guys go ahead and buy it while i sit here with my C2Q sobbing. jk

i would really love a 820QM, look at that 2.8GHz C2D speeds, and 2.0GHz C2Q speeds, not to mention the goodness of HT, that is GG PRO.

    Hi

Sorry if someone has already ask this question but I wonder if this new G51J would be heater ou fresher than the G51VX.
The user review of the G51VX http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=5255&p=2
noticed the alarmingly high GPU temperature...

Should we have to expect that it will be the same for G51J because il is the same build?

Thanks in advance and sorry for my poor english...

yeah you are correct in terms of numbers. There is currently no overclocking by Setfsb with the mobile i7s. We'll just have to wait and see what surfaces for software overclocking.

yea the reason i was skeptical is...why advertise the 820QM @ 1.73GHz when it will always run in turbo mode 4/3 cores @ 2.0GHz? thats why i was thinking, maybe turbo mode isn't on all the time or such...

yea i would really like to see how mobile-i7 would OC, that would make it beastly lol

also...have u ordered the W860CU? or is that ur dream machine? IIRC, you had a NP8662, did u sell that or something?

The 820QM runs at 1.73GHz when all 8 cores (physical & virtual) are stressed.

Yeah I ordered a W860CU. It arrived at my friend's house in Florida today (well yesterday since it's now the 15th). My CPU should be at his house by Friday, so by next week I'll have it in Jamaica so I can do a full review. I gave my M860TU to my younger brother as a gift.

I think the 1/1 means that at 4/3 cores 1.6GHz will OC via Turbo to 1.73GHz, +1 multiplier means +133MHz, not stock (+0).

I had a g51vx that I got when it first came out. When I took it out and turned it on, there was a hardware problem with the speakers. So I returned it to ASUS to get a replacement. A month later, my replacement still haven't arrived yet.

I just got a call from them saying they are gonna upgrade my replacement to the new g51j. Nice. Apparently it will be released on October 22nd.

you kidding me? ^ it looks absolutely horrible. at least the X1A/A1 are symetrical and have a cool design. that is just a blue lid with a random paint splotch on it. -_-

Haha, they added side lights to the picture. Go figure. They look a little different than the A1's blue lights. These ones look more like an icy blue. I wonder if that's how it looks in real life.

I do quite like the cover design. The normal white one is pretty cool too, but blue is my favorite color. At the very least I might try getting a trade for a G60VX (the one talked about lately, which seemingly appears to have the same blue case, but with the RX05 specs).

i still like the white one better but since no one cept BB has it i think the new one looks better than the blueblack one right now
also i think the icy blue color was photoshopped in and will prob be the same lights on the normal g51

as lame as this sounds, I really hope the g51j-a1 comes with the EEE sticks. I'll actually be disappointed if it doesn't.

GenTech is the G51Js cooling the same as the G50s and G51s?

If that's the case then it should produce more heat then right?
I hope it's a totally different cooling system, not really worth getting if the system gets retarded hot.

Like Forge said, yes, the G51J cooling/chassis will be the same as G50V and G51Vx, I am not sure if the GPU will produce more heat since G51J will still be GTX260M, however, like motherboard, the video card also have different revisions.

I would think so though, Ken, since they share the same fan, and a hotter CPU means less cooling for the GPU. We'll have to wait and see, though.

yes we will just have to wait and see how it runs, at this point nobody knows, one thing I would like to add is on G51Vx-A1 with exact same video card and MB revision I've seen different GPU idle temperature at 85*C and 65*C.

depends on what ur price is...i mean these things arent a gimmick, they are actually really cool. hooekd up to my 50" plasma, controlling the mouse is easy, this thing acts just like the Logitech MX Air mouse, ofc. not 150usd worth, but similar design. havent tried gaming with them yet...shoot me a PM if ur srs about it.

also, i saw the G51J and the 3dmark scores were appalling, does it come with an underclocked GPU? Elemental has proven that his machine gets 10% better GPU scores @ 1080p then the J...i really want to know that.

It looks as though it is underclocked, even more than the G51VX O.O. Even with an i7, those scores are very low. We all know that 3dmark06 is very CPU reliant.

So, does the G51J-A1 have a 1920x1200 or a 1920x1080 display resolution? According to this thread and the link to the specifications link herein, the resolution is 1920x1200, however everything else I have seen and read suggests the resolution is 1920x1080, same as the G51VX-A1.

Can anyone verify this one way or the other???????
