What do you guys think the odds are of starting and setting up a group buy for the f8sv?
I know MileStone PC has done this before with other asus laptops?
PS: IS the GPU in the f8sv gddr3 or gddr2?

It's probably DDR2, it has not been confirmed but the realistic idea sways that way.
-
starting and setting up a group by will be hard for the F8 with the V1 and V2 being released so close to when the F8 is released. if it will be $200 cheaper I'll buy it though
-
I'm getting pretty serious about this whole group buy thing. I'm thinking about starting a new thread and check if there is a large interest in the asus f8sv. If there is, I'll start contacting retailers, though I'm keen on MileStonePC as they ship to Canada and the US, and they have done this before?
So, should I start a new thread? -
-
I meant if we can get the group rate so that the F8Sv is around $150 to 200 less than retail I'd but it =]
-
On a side note, I'd be in for a V2S group buy.
-
And if the group buy on the V2S brought the price down by $200 (now I sound like wuzer) I would probably get that. Unfortunately, it won't happen (see above) and I will end up getting an F8Sv.
-
i'm in for group buy on the V2s!
hahaha =] -
I'm in for group buy f8sv
-
If I were to start a thread about a possible group buy, what would be the optimal sub-forum.
-
The Buy/Sell/Trade.
-
K, I'll probably start one tomorrow
-
I'm I would join the group buy but I haven't decided between the V2S and the F8SV yet >_<
-
From reading this thread I get the impression that the V1s/V2s will be alot sturdier and have a better build quality than the F8s... How much of a difference are we talking here? I spose the F8 will be plastic and the V1s/V2s will be magnesium or some such?
-
you're right meh_cd
the V1s and V2s will be made out of magnesium alloy and ABS plastic (i think) while the F8Sv will be made almost entirely from ABS plastic. -
That is so appealing. Looks like I'll be waiting for their release.
-
-
they should have some kind of alloy in their too, for the LCD screen i'd assume. i could be wrong though.
-
Does Asus have good driver/bios support? I know a fair amount about computers in general, but I don't want to be hung out to dry.

hey guys, im in for the group buy as well, although the problem is the F8 is due to come out after the V2S right? If so, I might be tempted to get the V2 other than the F8, but you can sign me for that anyways, keep me posted papasmurf
-
ASUS has a good reputation of solid computers / support after all -
Awesome. Now I wait...
-
which is the hardest part of all....hahah
-
Definitely.
It's exciting though.
-
Seems like we have a few takers for a V2s group buy...I'm thinking we'll need at least 10 if we're to get a special deal from Milestone or whoever we approach about it.
-
I need a V2S also.
But does milestone laptops comes with the Global warranty. -
i think all Asus laptops come with the Global warranty unless you modify the CPU, in which case the reseller should offer you their warranty.
-
sesshomaru Suspended Disbelief!
All Asus ensemble notebooks come with 2 years global warranty, regardless of who you purchased the system from. Sometimes, if you choose to upgrade the CPU or the like, the Asus warranty is void, and the reseller may provide warranty from his side.
-
Note the group buy should be at least 20+ people to actually have an effect.
-
20?! Wow, that seems rather unlikely. I think we can get close to 10 just based on people in this thread, but 20 is going to be difficult.
-
how about previous purchases that have been organized here? How many people were involved? does anybody know/know where to look?
-
I can't find any info on the forums on how previous group-buys worked. Anyone care to give an overview?
I figure I'm out of the running (being in the UK), but I'm interested in how they're organised.
-
It was 60, then it hit 160 or 180 I believe.
Let me find the thread. -
not necasarily Ultim4, whoever organises it could ship it to you but you would still be paying on postage. Are you really likely to shave all that much off? the Resellers are only allowed to discount Asus laptops to a certain point and as excalibur PC already has $50 off the RRP I dont see them having much more room to discount for you.
-
Yeah, but there are going to be zero people in the F8 group now, since ASUS has officially announced the F8 and it is going to have the 8600 GS, not GT.
Check it out http://www.asus.com/news_show.aspx?id=8063 -
we can still have hope that that's a typo
since in the PCWorld magazine it stated 8600GT -
.
-
It doesn't make any sense for it to have the 8600GS, and they had it listed as having the 8600GT in their catalogue.
-
I've been eying the F8 for a while and I would be interested in participating in a group purchase just as long as we can confirm that it will have an 8600GT.
-
I would join a V2S group :Y)
-
Oh wow, hey count me in for the V2s group buy as well!!!
-
I would go for a V2S group too.
-
What's this about group buy? There's 30 pages and I can't figure it out...
In any case, I plan on buying a V2S as well.. -
I would be down for the v2s group buy as well as long as it would ship relatively quickly, since I would like it by the time school starts up. You should probably start a new thread about it.
-
i'll create a v2s group buy group and see how many people want it

Guys if you're interested in the V2S Group Buy then please post in the thread. We need a strong show of support if any of the resellers are going to take us seriously.
