were still trying to get as many dealers into group buy/bidding war right?![]()
-
yes and can you correct your signature, it's the V2S not the V2J
-
Uh, try not to make it obnoxiously large and annoying please.
Thanks. -
Does the fact that the F8sv is 5.7!!! pounds not bother anybody? If I remember right (and someone else brought this up) W3J was like 5.25 and the A8Js was maybe 5.4? I mean thats a huge weight difference. I didn't notice the thickness specs... is it the same thickness as the W3J and A8Js or even thicker? This is the only thing that's really pushing me away from this laptop right now.
-
At worse it's a little thicker than the A8J. At best it'll be the same size.
Either way, they're still going to be a little wider than the A8J and way thicker than the 1.2" W3J.
I'm seriously thinking of sitting this generation out since notebooks have been getting a little bigger. Now, can I resist current temptations with Penryn with its 29W TDP and graphic card refreshes next September at best (from Asus)? -
can anyone give me a good (if you can put more than one better) link to download drives and more for the G2s-A1
-
I'm a stickler for weight, but being realistic, the F8Sv is well over a pound lighter than anything with comparable performance and price. In fact, the only 8600GT laptop that comes within a pound of it is the V1s (6.4lbs with optical drive, and 6 flat without) that costs $350 more. Probably has better build quality, but paying $350 more for a larger and heavier laptop with identical performance doesn't make sense to me. -
-
but importing it is going to be a problem xP
-
-
true...good point odin
i'd get the zepto if taxes / imports weren't so darn expensive -
-
According to what this guy said,"I asked these two sellers(who're selling v1s in China's Taobao), 8600GT's memory is DDR3,..."( http://benyouhui.it168.com/thread-565139-1-1.html), the V1S is ddr3?!
-
Well since I have been waiting 53 days on my pre-order Compal IFL90 I am beginning to think about canceling and pre-ordering the Asus V1s. Anyone know when the projected time of release is?
Tim -
A UK reseller told me they'd be getting stock by August 17th. Other people have heard that it'll be next week. So I figure any time between Monday next week and August 17th is likely. That's for the UK. It might be the same/similar for most countries.
-
Ouch...Compal had a great thing going, but then botched it with the continually postponed ship dates it looks like. Has anyone received the Sager versions (NP2090) yet?
The V1s is quite a step up in price, is it not? -
-
-
Well, no, not quite. The G2s at least has its gaming dtr reputation and the best notebook screen out there to its credit, so it still has some market (the G1s is just as fast, smaller and lighter, and $100 cheaper - the V1s wouldn't change anything). I think the G1 would have to rely on its gaming rep plus the styling (not good) and flashing lights (good for the gaming crowd, a nuisance for everyone else) to sell, but at a price $50 more than the V1s, its not exactly a good deal.
Anyhow, that doesn't matter, as I doubt the V1s will have GDDR3 VRAM. -
Where can you preorder the V1S now, is such an option available anywhere? I haven't seen it, but then again, I haven't exactly scoured the internet, I've just checked the usual sites.
-
Actually I wouldn't be surprised if it did have GDDR3. It's in the same form factor as the G1S and Macbook Pro, both of which use GDDR3. Beyond that, it's an upscale notebook, which means they won't skimp on parts like Dell or Compal did.
-
They have the new SR notebooks up for preorder. -
-
i think it's gonna be GDDR2 since it's 512MB ram -
And I sincerely hope the F8Sv gets a GDDR3 version....it will be cooler and offer better battery life, not to mention be a bit faster in the process. -
the F8Sv might get the GDDR3 to compete with the Zepto....I wish they'd release the specs already
-
ahhhh where art thou v1s!?
-
And hell, forget the specs, I wish they would release the laptop itself -
The 14" Zepto (6224w) is DDR2.
And, as people have said, take what that Chinese dealer said with a pinch of salt. It's (almost?) unheard of for a 512Mb 8600GT to have GDDR3. -
It will happen eventually, but it hasn't happened yet, AFAIK.
There are a few notebooks with the 256MB DDR2 8600GTs though, I think. Dell Inspiron 1520/1720 and Vostro 1500/1700 have it, as does the Acer Aspire 5920, and probably (though I don't like it) the F8Sv. -
The only notebooks with the 256 GDDR3 8600GT are the G1s, G2s, and MBP to my knowledge.
-
Actually, those are the only notebooks with GDDR3 8600GT at all, I think.
-
-
That makes sense, seeing as VRAM will make even more of a difference for workstation users, with the high-res textures and stuff used in their 3D modeling. But I don't think I would count them as 8600GTs, seeing as they are the workstation versions.
-
Just wondering. Does anyone know the placement of the fn and crtl keys for the F8 and the V2. Having them switched kinda annoys me...
-
The F8 has them switched ("Fn" key in the corner, with Ctrl on the right of it), but the V2 has them in the proper positions. Thats what I have seen in the pics thus far, so it may not be what actually hits the market.
And I don't think it makes much of a difference, while I prefer the standard way, the other way doesn't bother me too much after about 2 minutes. Its not something that would cause me to look away from a laptop, to be certain. -
I've heard from people that have the switched keys that you get used to it after awhile, but it gets a little weird if you have a desktop with correct keys and a laptop with switched ones.
-
it just takes time getting used to.
like Vivek, that definitely would not be a motivating factor when i'm looking for a notebook -
Oh, it's not like I haven't used a laptop with switched keys (my past laptops and this current one all have switched keys,) it's just that I don't like it very much. You could call it a pet peeve.
It wouldn't cause me to look away, either, I was just wondering
Just wondering: any reason why they do that? -
no clue...maybe just different standards in different countries?
or just to make people irritated...haha -
Most people like it the standard way, even in the UK (check out Trusted Reviews, most of the time they will complain about switched fn/ctrl keys). Maybe its different for Asia, but ThinkPads have been switched forever as well, I think (or at least the X series has). And so are Apple's notebooks, as I remember.
-
The FN/CTRL may seem like a bother but it's not as bad as it seems. To be honest, it feels more nature with the FN first, I curl my pinky and it rests right on the CTRL key when needed.
Oh and here. -
Heh, I always get the V1 and V2 confused. It wasn't until you showed me that picture that I realized that I named the 14" model and not the 15.4"
Heh, you must have really good eyesight in order to spot the key arrangement from the picture you just posted. -
was that photo off of the asus site?
The specs say 8600 gs, but the picture on the bottom right says 8400 gs for some reason...Not really worried about it.
The other thing is that the mouse in the picture has a usb connector in it...I take it that means its not a bluetooth mouse? -
There is a version of the V2s with an 8400GS. I think it may be the australian version or something. I've seen it referred to.
-
Hello,
I am new to the forum and came across the V2S
I am wondering if the 9 cell battery will stick out of the laptop if it is attached? -
And yes, the 9 cell battery will stick out of the back about an inch. -
Is the V2s going to have a matte screen or not? I figured it would be an option since it is a business model.
