I think it's brown only. To be honest, I think I'm starting to like it. It's not a pure brown thing, just a hue. A bit different from the rest.
-
You're starting to like the brown? It's just a "hue"?
That's just the Kool-aid starting to kick in.
-
I would put the Envy 15 2nd Gen at the top of that list (i5 CPU, ATI 5830 DX11, no optical drive or Optimus, weighs 5.17 lbs, 1 inch thick; 15.6 inch screen 1920x1080 res, runs nice and cool), BUT only if:
1. You get it with a $300 coupon (price is then only $1250)
2. The ASUS N82 is priced at $1200 in the USA.
If the N82 comes in under $1000, then it's a much tougher choice.
-
Question: where did you get that price from?
-
I know
It's disappointing considering that the CW has Nvidia 330M and is an equally priced machine.
-
If the CW had USB 3.0 I would have bought 2 of them by now. And depending on what the price is with the N82 & when (if) it ships, that still might happen.
-
I dunno how much this means but Amazon is showing a price drop of the ASUS UL80vt of $100;
http://www.amazon.com/UL80Vt-A1-14-...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1269544532&sr=8-1
Tomorrow is the end of Q1 I believe ... so we could hear something at the end of the day tomorrow. -
I wouldn't let stop me from getting the CW. Outside of external storage, there's probably not much that you would need USB 3.0 for. A USB 3.0 expresscard adaptor, which you can pick up for about $30-40 ATM, would be sufficient I would think.
-
I doubt the adapters will provide enough juice for the full 3.0 power spec. And while USB 3.0 isn't a have to have, its a nice feature since I keep my PC stuff for a long time.
Not a dealbreaker, but its high on my list of "wants".
-
The CW doesn't have switchable graphics, though.
-
The base price of the Envy 15 is $1299 and comes with Intel Core i5-430M (2.26GHz, 3MB L2 Cache with Turbo Boost up to 2.53GHz), 4gb of RAM, 320gb HD, 1366x768 panel and most important the Radeon 5830! This is simply the most powerful AND portable gaming machine you can buy. The freakin' notebook only weighs 5.2 pounds!
The most logical upgrade is either the +$75 1920x1080 HP Anti-glare or the +$100 1920x1080 HP Brightview panel (glossy). Personally I strongly prefer the anti-glare panel.
I believe the $300 off coupon is for laptops priced $1349 and up. I don't think there an active one right now, but HP releases on regular basis. -
It's the price quoted on HP's website for the following options:
i5-520 CPU
4 GB RAM
320 GB HDD 7200 rpm
1920x1080 HP Brightview panel (glossy)
No optical drive
Does not include sales tax.
-
Mmm... sorry for the misunderstanding. I meant the price of $1200 for the N82JV.
-
I have one and can tell you they don't. However, either the adaptor you buy, or the enclosure you get for the external HDD will have a USB power adaptor that you can use to supplement the expresscard. I use an old USB 2.0 power adaptor with my SIIG USB 3.0 expresscard adaptor and drive enclosure -- I've been averaging over 80MB/sec xfer rates on whole system backup's.
-
No worries. One of the early posts mentioned that price. It sounds reasonable, given the configurations and options available for the N82.
-
Sony Vaio E is another good choice in China now.
http://www.sonystyle.com.cn/products/vaio/e14.htm#cto
15'/ATI 5650HD/FHD 1920x1080
http://www.sonystyle.com.cn/products/vaio/e15.htm#cto
14'/ATI 5650HD/ 1600x900
But I found the USA only got 5470HD and no info about the screen. -
anyone have a idea of how much battery life you can possibly get with the n82 with integrated gpu? and then with the 335m?
-
Can't tell till I get my hands on one.
Which is a more powerful GPU the Nvidia 335M or ATI 5650 HD? -
From the numbers I read on notebookcheck HD5650 seems to be sligtly better. Also its DirectX 11 whereas GT335M is DirectX 10.1
But if you get optimus with the GT335 then I'd prefer the nVidia card personally -
note sure if this was posted...but i found this review off another thread...
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.notebookjournal.de%2Ftests%2Flaptop-review-asus-n82jv-nkrt-1126%2F1 -
Yeah, we've got a link to that one. Although I am still wondering, why does Germany get these kinds of things first? I mean they got the first review, first announcement on official site, etc.
-
Does anyone know if there are other options besides brown/white (brushed aluminum would be pretty sweet)?
-
Not a chance. Even white doesn't exist, as far as what we've seen goes.

Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
The N81 for one, from the time of its release, had only one color scheme across its variants. -
I contacted Asus and asked when this laptop would become available...
The representative told me that it "should be released during this summer 2010."
If this is true, now would be the time to contact them about features that you would like to see: screen resolution, color, battery size and whatever else you feel is necessary. Their tardiness is unfortunate because so many of us are unwilling to wait. -
Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
That subjective statement just made me concerned if it will ever arrive at the given time frame. -
Wow... they may have just lost me. I think I'll talk to them myself on Monday and see what they say then... I absolutely need this computer before August, but I do not really want to wait until June or July. Does any other company offer warranties comparable to ASUS?
-
hmm, this site says it'll arrive Europe in April priced at 1049 Euro
http://www.gadgetfolder.com/asus-n82jv-vx020v-and-n61ja-jx008v-calpella-laptops-with-usb-3-0.html
Maybe it'll get to the state in Summer? That's too long for me. I might go for the Acer Timeline X. -
I just decided to upgrade my Acer 5920 with faster processor, more ram and larger 7200rpm HDD.
I'm going to use it like this for 6-12 months and by that time the 3820 and N82 should be available. Maybe as a Christmas present?
LOL -
I have been waiting for this lappy since CES in january. I read the news today that it will launch in Europe mid April. I feel like a 5 year old who figured out what he's getting for his birthday, and just can't wait for that big day to arrive.
The price of €1049 is spot on. A real bargain when you look at the (pardon the top gear expression) power to weight ratio of this bad boy.
I was a bit sceptical about the brown color to begin with, but having wasted much office time scrolling impatiently through the detailed presskit screenshots linked here several times, I now find I really like it. To me it looks exclusive like a hand made fine leather briefcase. It doesn't flaunt its power like the flamboyantly flashy Dell "pimpsta-wanabe" Alienware M11x. It even hides rarely used ports discretly behind a flip down plate.
I can't wait to pop my Intel X-25 2.0 SDD in it's belly and move the 500 gig to a USB 3.0 Icy box. External file transfer / storage heaven for all my media! Also, sweet dreams of Bad Company pwnage and Starcraft 2 launch will fill my nights until it's in my hands.
I'll be calling my local computer pusher monday to pre-order this lovely laptop.
Oh btw. here is a nice new video I found: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scD7UE79kxY -
Why did you show me the vid? Now I want it even more...
-
I want the JQ model, now if only it had a backlit keyboard. I modded my u81-a bb version, I'll have no issue modding that one as well. This now is officially the laptop I am waiting for..............
-
According to this Link expected price of $1,405 in Europe at release, Ouch............
-
I think that's a little too expensive. I can get a G73Jh-a1 with just $200 more...
Both the release date (summer?) and price ($1400+) is driving me to the Acer Timeline X series.
Sad =( -
Is the N61JA > JQ or JQ > JA ? cuz the JQ is $1,149.99CAD @ NCIX
1405 euro is like 2100$ maybe the guy meant 1405 euro for both N82 and N61 XD
but hey, even if it's 1405$ CAD... it's still over priced =] -
I don't think the thing's $1400.
In China the price is quoted at something like 7000-8000 RMB which is something like 1100 CAD.
Also, laptops are ALWAYS more expensive in Europe. By a lot. -
If you google the Asus product id: N82JV-VX020V, then you get a million similar links to different news post all derived from the same Asus press release. Everywhere else the price is quoted as €1045. As you are quoting €1405, does it sound reasonabe that your link contains a typo, reversed 2nd and 3rd digits, perhaps?
-
Maybe too but, go to this link and do 1045 Euro's to USD and it is $1406 american. It may be that too.
Edit; the poster did put the Dollar rather than Euro sign there but he still should not be quoting Asus without stating the orignal quote and then a conversion. Still though as I said OUCH............

I Think Asus discontinued the N61JA-A1 model for whatever the reason
No one is offering that model and you hardly find any review of it. I wonder whether anyone has got this model in this planet
The main difference between N61JQ-A1 and N61JA-A1 is the quad core i7 and dual core i5 + BD player, else rest are same. And as N61JA-A1 has i5-430M processor we should expect for switchable graphics too. -
I didn't see the dollar sign, or read it as euros. My bad. You are correct, 1045 = $1405, strangely enough.
It's a perfectly acceptable price, if it includes VAT (17-25% depending on country). -
emm... usually 1000$ for a laptop in USA is equal to 950-1000 for the same laptop in Italy
for example G73JH in Italy costs 1.550-1600, in USA about 1600$...
so, if I'm right, N82JV will costs about 1000-1100$ in USA -
Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
Went to the ASUS stores around here and asked if they know of the N82 or when it would arrive, with all their answers a resounding "We don't know" & "Haven't heard of it"
If the seller from Malaysia really will have the N82, maybe I ought to buy from them.
Still, I'm holding on for April for its release. I still have until June before classes to buy one and I'm so much rooting for it to be my next one. If not, I may have to settle for a cheaper and less powerful one.
-
ACER's new TimelineX is a option but sadly there's no release date on that either.
-
I know in general laptops are just more expensive in Europe. I still would have likd to see a lower release price. Also I want the JQ meaning they would need GMA 4500 to keep Optimus or make Nvidia dedicated. Either way I'm sure it would bring the pricw up that much more.......
-
JQ would mean that there's no Optimus.
Nvidia's site has drivers for the new ASUS notebooks already, and it specifically mentioned all the JV models and no JQ model. -
On the same board, no Optimus. It would be possible if they used a seperate board with again say the GMA 4500HD. This could also be thier flagship model backlit keyboard and all. I can dream can't I, just don't burst the bubble I'm floating in just yet as I'm hoping for it to be $800 or under too............
-
ooo baby the N42 JF looks sexy! but i need a laptop sometime this year!! who knows when that will come out. http://www.engadget.com/photos/asus-emagazine-for-march-2010/#2844516

Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
I was thinking of the same thing. The 5650 as an alternative is reasonable enough given its lower power consumption and DX11 support. Just about anything with switchable graphics plus a mid-tier graphics will do.
-
I don't think Asus actually makes laptops anymore - just press releases and brochures.
-
lol, they still do. i remember looking at an online store in BC, Canada. Their N61JQ stock was like this:
240 in stock
360 ordered
120 backordered.
