There will be a K42JV with a 335M according to the ASUS World Magazine, though.

    LOL.
This has to be the funniest thing I've read today. So funny that, after being registered for two months, you got my 1st post.

I registered in anticipation of buying this laptop and joining the community, but ASUS took so long that I lumped my laptop money in and put $5000 down on a new car... your loss ASUS.

$450 coupon offered by HP on their website for the Envy laptop.

The HP Envy 15 is a steal with a $450 coupon. Got mine for $1049.99 USD!

I was drooling about that too. Too bad I'm in Canada. You see, the Envy 15 second generation isn't even available here. The first generation that IS available costs $2299 CAD. Which is about $2199 USD.

Expired. I picked up the Envy 15 although I had been waiting forever for Asus to release this or their UL30JT laptop. Still wary of the HP though and may return the sucker after 21 days depending on if Asus RELEASES SOMETHING or if the laptop isn't what I wanted.

I believe unless the display blows me away, the 14" Asus laptops are the best buy.

I would expect they N82 to be available first.

My brother has been waiting for this model for over a month. His company will only buy Asus computers through a local dealer. They agreed to upgrade his oversized crappy old brick to an N82. I can't wait to put it through its paces. It'll be interesting to compare it to the Acer 3820TG when I get mine.

I think I am tired of waiting for this model. The MSI GX640 has a graphics card that's like 2-3x as fast as this one, for probably the same price, and doesn't weigh much more (5.1lb vs 5.9lb). And the GX640 started shipping already this weekend.

I think the GX640 is cheaper than what the N82 will be
but..... its red highlight makes it less professional-looking and
is it just me or isn't the GX640 Keyboard really messed up?!

If you don't need a work laptop then go for the GX640 =] at least that's what I would've done

I'm a second year university student in engineering where the rest of the geeks are, so a GX640 fits right in.
The keyboard supposedly should be fixed by propping it up yourself anyway.

MSI GX640 seems ~$ 1000. so would N82JV be more expensive than that ??

Asus N61JQ (with better cpu (considering N82JV to have i5- 430m/520m), ~ gpu, 16in ) is also $ 1060. So can they up the price of N82 ??

The MSI GX640 has no USB 3.0. This would be the main reason for me to upgrade, other than also wanting the i7 quad version............

True, but then I could just add a USB 3.0 express port card to my existing U81-a that now runs a P9600 in it. I am looking for a machine for once I retire in 2/2011 to last me 4-5 years.

I am not a gamer so dedicated graphics is not essential. I do plan on doing development, picture editing etc so a quad would be nice. The power of the P9600 is more than ample for me right now, but that is it right now! I usually upgrade every 18 months or so but of course that will change with retirement.

Again with RAW work I can easily see USB 3.0 becoming a major need and not just a want. An N82-JQ upgraded to 8 Gigs and C300 256 GB SSD and for production work UBS 3.0 7K500 HDD enclosure's sounds like a great solution.......

I too not a gamer and never play any games on computer. So dedicated graphics also not essential. For my requirement dual core i5 is sufficient for my work, but need a Full HD screen to see more vertically during work.

Agreed. He's better off with the 16:10 resolution for more vertical space. Although with those type of screens a rarity these days, I understand the compromise with an FHD screen.

@URPradhan: Don't you get tired of your resolution rants and wants? This thread is an avenue for a 14" which will sport a 1366x768 screen and not FHD ones.
