Sir, when one person objects to what you post, it may be the reader's problem. But when many people bring up the fact that you're off topic and making pointless arguments, then perhaps it's time to review what you're writing.

From the looks of things, Acer's TimelineX models are going to have a big advantage in battery life over the N82Jv. If I was going to wait a month, I'd be inclined to buy the Acer even though I wouldn't be covered by warranty when I came back to Australia.

Tell me about it. This wasn't the only time (or thread) he did that.

I'm being lured by the Acers too, especially the 4820T, and frankly I prefer ATI cards now over Nvidia cards in my laptop. I'm not also bothered of having to switch graphics manually either. But USB 3.0 is just too tempting to pass up-it will make frequent large file transfers a breeze for me. Just waiting for any of the two to make it to the shores of my country. :)

Good news for the N82Jv - the ASUS U30JC has an 84Whr 8 cell battery which gets it around 8 hours of battery life, similarly to the TimelineX 6 cell. I would presume that the N82Jv would have this same 8 cell battery, and so would get similar battery life off the integrated graphics.

I don't see any reasons now going for the N82JV , except for e-Sata and USB 3.0, when there is the Timeline-series, which is offered at a way lower price here in Germany than the N82JV.

You can get this for 899€.

Asus N82 not listed yet, but it should be over 1000€ if Asus doesn't react.

Not sure if this is accurate but the N82JV-VX020V will be priced at 1049 euro with i5-520M, Nvidia GT 335m, USB 3.0 and eSATA.

    http://blogntech.com/asus-n82jv-vx020v-and-asus-n61ja-jx008v-laptops.html

So if you want USB 3.0/eSATA and a slightly faster processor. N82jv is still a good deal.

But I think the timeline X series will have better processor model released later. Don't know what the price will be, but my guess is it'll be $100 ~ $200 more depending on the processor.

Sure, but for me the Timeline has more advantages like design , way more longer battery life and the ATI 5650.

Only advantage of N82 is the USB3.0/eSata.
For me it is not worth even paying about 150€ more!
And i can predict that the N82 won't sell very well with the new TimelineX-series.

Since ASUS got around 7-8 hours with Arrandale on the U30JC, the N82Jv shouldn't be far off with that 84WHr 8 cell of theirs.

I'd wait to see a good review of the Timeline-X regarding its thermal capabilities. Intuition tells me that with ASUS' experience in the N81 series, they'd do well with the N82 in terms of heat management.

    Agreed.

Just spoke to a rep at Asus. Told me that they have a list of notebooks that are being released this month, and the N82 is not on that list. Longer wait I guess.

Every pic I've seen of the lid is sort of a chocolate brown color which is not my style.

Don't bet the house on that prediction. I would guess that we are still at least a month away from seeing any timelineXs here in the US. Nobody is a bigger fan of the timelines than me, but if the N82 starts shipping by the first week of May, I think it will sell very well. There is a lot of pent-up demand. Optimus, USB 3.0. NVIDIA graphics and quadcore I7 could make this an extremely successful 14" laptop. It also has Asus support and the great warranty.

    Unfortunately, ITS BROWN!!

Don't forget, the 899€ Timeline you linked only has i5-430M http://geizhals.at/eu/a519715.html

For, 150€ more you get faster processor (i5-520M) and USB3.0 and eSATA. It appears that N82jv will also have 8-cell battery, so battery life would be similar to the Timeline (just my guess though).

I was considering the Timeline series as well, but the fact that it only has USB 2.0 port (no eSATA, usb 3.0, Express-slotcard) drives me away. I just need some kinda of fast connection to a HDD enclosure because I am planning to upgrade to SDD. Too bad they can't add one eSATA/usb 2.0 combo port. Just one will do. oh well =(.

The N81 came only in brown but what the heck, it had stellar specs and great heat management. I guess what they did in the N82 is to keep that N8- series touch.

"These Calpella-based notebooks should carry price-tags ranging from NT$33,000-53,000 (US$1,045-1,679), according to Digitimes."

Wonder what is included in the $1679 model. It's a little expensive to me.

Probably things like Bluray and SSD's.

Anyway the wait is over for me. I gave up and bought the GX640. Should be here tomorrow... Apparently it comes with a 9 cell battery and lasts about 3.5 hours on that and still weighs <6lb. So, I figured, being the gamer that I am, after all.... HD 5850 >>>>>>> GT 335M :$

I was also considering the GX640 at the time when it was announced, but seeing the same chassis and the terrible keyboard used again, I shifted to considering a more portable but still gaming capable 14 inchers.

Similar news has been posted earlier at the ASUS global website, but the pricing is spot on with earlier announcements.

I'm getting impatient. If ASUS knew how many people are in the market for such laptops...

I was wandering that myself. I have seen in a few e-tailers' sites that some notebooks in Germany come with a QWERTZ keyboard instead of QWERTY and German OS as well.

I was thinking about having my friend check one out in Taiwan. I'm wondering if there are any problems like that w/ an asian/chinese version. I kinda like having the chinese characters under the letters.
