I don't think so. If you order in german shop you will have the german keyboard. That means: 'y' and 'x' key change place and you will have the additional keys 'ä,ö,ü'. I've never seen a notebook in germany with english keyboard. If you don't have a problem with more keys, there is no problem, because you can change the language of the OS.
As mentioned earlier, some german shops have listed the N82. But only one shop has some PICTURES. Here is the link.
-
In the LG P310 thread there is a discussion about ordering the P310 from notebook.de, a german site. They were ordering that unit with an english keyboard. They might do the same for an Acer. I would expect that we will see the N82 here in the states soon so I would just wait.
Bronsky
Edit: LOL the photos are from Notebook.de. Dam, the brown color is growing on me. -
Actually i think the brown color is really nice. It's something new and different. It is definately not ugly. But if i could have the look of a U33 bamboo with the specs of an N82, this would be perfect.
I found also a short video about the N82.
Another interesting notebook ist the N43. But i think it will take some time, till one of them apears. -
Agreed here, no problem with the colour, I spotted the N43 too, I think that'd be another thread.
-
i think the colour is one of the best in years of any notebook. its not 1999 like aple or 2019 like AW. its nice, real nice imo.
-
It seems that France has got it but it's with the i5-430M.
http://translate.googleusercontent.....co.uk&usg=ALkJrhh8wmrD2rSzVVjCkdo3TtK4kajYRw -
Interesting, it has a 640 GB HDD and weights 1,9 kg. The german website notebook.de says that it has i5 520m, 500 GB HDD and weights 2,3 kg.
400 g extra?
Edit.: And they write 3x USB 2.0, no USB 3.0. But this must be a mistake. -
I think it is prudent to compile a list of the models available so far and their differences to have something to refer to.
Model______Country______CPU_______HDD
VX020V_____Germany_____i5-520M_____500 GB
VX028V_____France_______i5-430M_____640 GB
VX038V_____Portugal______i5-430M_____320 GB -
I think someone else already mentioned. But anyway: the german website notebookjournal.de already reviewed the US version with an i7 620M.
I'd like to have the i7 here too.
-
I thought the I7 in the N82 was a quad version?
-
That's N82Jq with i7-720QM.
N82Jv could come with i7-620M. -
Asus is really making me crazy with all these different names. I didn't know that there will also be a model with quad i7.
I think every country will get its own model. And they will all have different specs and names.
I'd like to have one with a two core i7, but i think that there will be only the i5 model in Germany.
Finally it would be great if there was any N82 available. -
Yes, exactly.
-
For people from Germany:
I found a N82 for 939 € and students get an extra discount so you can get one for 899 € on campuspoint.de. Delivery period is 5-10 days.
Sounds pretty good to me. -
As from the retailer said in a previous post in this thread, US will get the Quad core (at the start maybe). Probably JQ one -720QM
-
For the pictures of the review, that was mentioned earlier, klick HERE.
-
GenTechPC was told that they will get the i7 version which makes him think that he'll be getting the N82Jq. But it could just be the i7 620m instead of the Quad core i7.
Any other retailers getting more info?
Does the Quad core version still have switchable graphics? -
If we are offered the N82-JQ at a reasonable price I may have to get it. My U81-a with a P9600 upgrade is way more than I need but cpu upgrade path is severly limited from this point. An i7 quad would future proof the system much more securely as when I retire in Feb. 2011 I'd like to stay from a full system upgrade for 4-5 years.
-
The quad i7 doesn't support switchable. The dual i7 does.

Spotted here for preorder in Germany, at 939€, and further 40€ student discount! Note they say 8 cell battery!
It is also possible to order it here with bigger and faster HDD or SSD.

Yes, 8 cell, but a weak 8cell battery.
Well atleast the price is now competitive against the Acer Timeline series. -
Hidden product pages for N82J models at asus.com found!

Strange that they are not available from the product menu. There should be no question about the config anymore.
Note that they have the JQ with i7-720QM listed to ship with 1066 Mhz DDR3. This processor supports 1333 Mhz DDR3. Again very strange...
Both the JQ and the Jv are listed to be available with these batteries:
Battery Pack & Life
6 cells: 4400 mAh
8 cells: 6600 mAh
It's the first time I see a 6600 mAh in the specs. I was hoping for it, and now it's a fact! -
here in China, many vendors have the N82JV for sale.
a good link with some close up pictures taken by an online vendor:
N82JV at taobao.com (chinese)
The price is attractive and if I have time this week, I will go to see this laptop in a shop to see if I like it
-
Nice find. About time ASUS made it official. Hope it appears at UK retail soon...
Also it seems there is no i7-620M after all. -
The 8 cell would likely be the same 8 cell you get in the U30JC, and the one in the U30JC is 5600mAh * 15V = 84Wh.
6600mAH would make sense if it was a 9 cell. -
Hi,
i am from germany and new here.
I have found this in ebay:
It is a Sony Vaio CW with Core i7, 4GB Ram and GT 330m graphic.

This is an Asus N82 thread
-
Any word yet about US availability? Or price?
-
Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that GenTech expects to have the N82JQ around the first week of May. I sent an e-mail off to XoticPC just to see if they have any idea.
I'd still love to know something about US pricing. $1100 or under on either model and I'm probably in. -
I'm trying to decide between the N82JV and the U30JC. Extended
support for W2K runs out July 13 so I'm running out of runway.
Let's hope May 1st is accurate. -
I wonder if they will be getting the N82JV version with a i5 cpu.

I am getting impatient. It seems the rest of the world is going to get it before the UK does. -
And the UK before the States, and Canada certainly not before that.
-
So i really like the look of the laptop, but i have a few questions of the Nvidia Optimus technology:
1. Would we be able to know which card we're using when doing tasks?
2. This is my big worry because i'm going to college, and my worry is about whether or not the Nvidia Optimus technology would ever break down, or stop working over the years.
Since I would like my next laptop to last for about 3-4 years, I would like to know that the graphics card would ever go bad or something. -
from one of the youtube videos they mention that you can manually set which programs cause the nvidia graphics card to turn on
-
nvidia has made a gadget for windows that will show you which GPU is active.
-
It's for all retailers in US but I am not sure about Canada.
-
from holland here and i very much want the N82, anyone happen to have info on the release date for holland?
-
Great
Who did you find these links ?
mainly the cryptic product id, P_ID=uAbPCIwOypZXOqfc ? -
I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.
- Maverick -
That seems like a strange question. Any of the hardware in your laptop could break down, with moving parts (like the hard drive) being the most likely, but I wouldn't think optimus would be any more likely to break than the CPU, or the memory, etc., assuming the ASUS guys rigged proper cooling.
I've had an ASUS motherboard and nvidia graphics card in a desktop running for approaching 10 years now--both companies have an excellent record. -
I own a asus W2J for four years now. It never disappointed me. A month ago i ordered an HP tm2. I had to return three of them because of build and hardware issues. Now i am going to get an asus again. Probably a N82
.
Honestly, i don't think that something like optimus can break. If something is going to break it will be a part that moves (like HDD or fan). -
Doesn't thermal paste degrade faster over time than OEM thermal pads,
flowing out of the junction due to heating/cooling cycles? -
Their whole 8 series failure was rather massive, however. Now that the G1S has been out for about 2.5 years... well, just do a search on dead G1S's. Mine's on that list too. It has a 9500M GS now.
-
OK, graphics card failed in ASUS G1S laptop. So was a problem with the card
itself (nvidia's fault) or with the way it was integrated/cooled (ASUS's fault)?
Did ASUS correct the problem or spank nvidia hard? -
Eh.. look around online, GeForce Go 8 series GPU failures. Nvidia screwed up an entire line because of I think impurities in the silicon or something. Dead 8600M GTs in every brand of notebook.
-
Biggest problem with laptops is that they get full of dust and overheat.
Proper maintenance is the key to life.
How easy is it to clean out the N82? -
I agree, but I cleaned my G1S monthly.
Look around online for the N82 pictures, some show the underside but unfortunately no access panel to the cooling assembly.
