Working on office and surfing in the web I don't hear any high noise.
Let's see what will happen in a 3d game...
-
i want it nowwww!!! asus fuc%(*#@U&%)(@*#%....
-
when you test the screen quality, can you please test the blacks? Some reviews say that dark colours like black are significantly light... i.e. making black, grey
-
Boy, I'm just glad I didn't wait for this and went for a GX640 back in April. Else I'd still be waiting, like, three months after I started this thread...............
-
Is it unpleasant to use at all? I only ever use the touchpad if I'm too lazy to get my mouse, but it's still good to know.
-
I got an email today from Asus saying the release would be about june 9.
-
Which country are you posting from ?
Please say Asus-Australia
-
I'm in the USA...Sorry. But hey, u could easily get one shipped to Australia. They'll probably go up on eBay quickly after launch
-
Review here: Notebookcheck: Review Asus N82JV Notebook
To the guy that already has it, do you notice a "loud keyboard trigger noise"
as the notebookcheck review says? -
If they don't get this thing launched by June 9...
-
...then, buy HP Envy 14 on 27th June
(Value For Money Laptop)
-
Yeah, it's just unfortunate since the N82 has so much to offer.
Check out what Justin@XoticPc wrote:
"Current ETA as provided from Asus is Q3 of 2010"
Fail, fail, and more fail. -
Could you please tell, what more N82 offers than Envy 14 ?
EDIT: If you compare the features and specs of both, N82 should not be more than $900 USD as Envy 14 is $999 USD -
I think Envy 14 is better than N82 in all ways. It is presumed that it will also come with USB 3.0 and with SIM card reader for wireless internet. Because Envy 15 had USB 3.0, right?
-
The new Envy 17 has USB 3.0 so I guess the 14 will as well.

-
What e-mail address did you find for Asus USA? I'd like to see if I get the same answer.
-
[email protected]. I got the email from the website. N82 or envy 14... First one out will get MY business... Regardless of specs... I'm just tired of waitIng
-
No, the official specs for Envy 14 only show USB 2.0, not USB 3. USB 3
would be an advantage of the N82JV over the Envy 14.
Other pros (IMHO):
1. Real touchpad button (even though 1 long button) rather than the
goofy mac style touchpad extension area simulated button.
2. Normal loading optical drive rather than slot loading. As Kevin Kline told
Jamie Lee Curtis in a Fish Called Wanda, don't touch the DVD surface!
3. Nvidia rather than ATI. (I've always owned Nvidia products. For me ATI
is an unknown quantity.)
Obvious HP advantages:
1. Larger screen
2. Perhaps not having the weird texture on the touchpad, though I
won't know until I use it. -
I agree on the touchpad and Optical drive. I consider the 5xxx series ATI card to be an advantage to the HP Envy 14. I have always used NVIDIA as well until I built a desktop with a 5870 GPU in it. The card runs so cool and stable that you don't know it is there. It's oc'ing ability has to be seen to be believed and even oc'd it is incredibly stable. None of the little black dots I would get from time to time with my NVIDIAs.
HP has not only a larger display but a far better one. It has better resolution and is probably twice as bright. The obvious advantage is the aluminum chassis as well. People seem to love that MBP look. Advantage HP 14.

Another advantage on the Envy is they didn't put a stupid plastic over over 3 of the ports on the machine.
Plus, I'd bet money that HP actually ships the machine when it says it will. -
do you really ever plug the rj45 cable in your wifi capable laptop?
i dont see that stupid that those 3 ports are covered... -
RJ45? always. Online gaming: LAN >>>> Wi-Fi
-
I never game on Wifi when I can plug directly into the LAN.

no more waiting for me. just scooped up the dm4. if the n82 comes out before the 21 day return policy, then i just may return the dm4.
-
Any insight on if "Released on June 9" would mean getting your paws on it that day (or whatever day it is "released")? Or would it probably take a while to show up in stores/online for purchase?
Hmmm...same for the Envy on the 27th? I have to have a laptop in hand on the 29th, so I'm weighing my options with my timeframe...
-
Yes I do, so does the wife. A gig hardwired connection is far faster than wif especially when you keep everything on a home server.
How many makers put covers on ports anymore? That was something I thought died in the mid 90's... -
Just rip the cover off?
-
Excuse my ignorance, but is this Asus's "equivalent/competitor" for HP's Envy 14? I thought the UL80JT was the competition for the MBP. I wanted the UL80JT before I came across the Envy 14, now I just came across the N82. I'm just worried about HP's reliability :\. Otherwise, my choice for a new laptop is an Asus. Please enlighten a notebook newbie.
Thanks in advance. -
You have it exactly right ... the HP Envy 14 and the N82JV are competitors. IMO, the UL80JT is a different kind of notebook and does not really compete with these models. The UL80JT would compete more directly with the HP DM4T. The 13" MBP would compete more with these notebooks than the Envy or the N82.
The Envy is the top of the HP line. The company has had a lot of experience with the design, improving the Envy 15. Initially the 15 had quite a few issues which HP seems to have addressed.
The Envy 14 and the N82 have very similar specs. The HP's ATI HD5650 GPU has a slight edge in power over the NVIDIA GT335M. I am a big fan of ATI's 5xxx series GPUs. My guess is that the N82 will have superior battery life. The HP, hands down, has the better display, both in resolution (1600 x 900) and brightness (350nit). The HP has an aluminum chassis. The N82 will probably be a bit less expensive. While I think the HP will be reliable, I do think that Asus has a better overall track record. Asus has the better standard warranty.
The HP has the advantage of actually having a formally announced release date. Today's release of the HP Envy 17 and the Pavillion lines was right on time and went off without too much drama. Asus has been anouncing the N82 since January and has been unable to bring this 14"er to market. All you have today is a rumored release date, nothing formal from the company. The HP will be real on the 27th and you will be able to have it assembled in 12-14 days. HP17s ordered today are delivering on June 1.
I like both of these computers. I don't think selecting between them is an easy choice at all. It would be an even harder choice if you could actually buy an N82.
My brother has been waiting for this model for months, as his company will only buy Asus notebooks because of the warranty. Good luck with your choice. I hope the N82 really is anounced on the 9th.

I'm pretty sure the HP I'm most likely buying won't have a cover.

While waiting for the Asus N82 and the Acer Timeline, I went to HP's site, checked out the new 15.6" special edition dv6 they got. Brushed aluminum look, and stuff. 5.5 lbs as stated on the website... Nice specs I said.
Then I heard about the bing cashback. 25%. Wow I said.
I configured a dv6 select edition as follows;
After all is said and done, with bing cashback came to about $1050...
Unbelievable price I think.
I ordered it, should be built in June 1st.
After that I have 21 days to test it out.
Maybe the Asus and Acer will be out by then (which I highly doubt).
Even Asus and Acer are out, I don't know if they will be this cheap with these exact specs, especially the 6GB RAM, and i5-540...
Also excited about the envy 14, let's see what June will bring to the table. -
The 25% is really tempting. HP is a marketing machine. I almost bought a DM4T today and I don't even want one.
-
lol <short>
-
But the problem is, it has ONLY 1366x768 resolution, which is a DEAL BREAKER atleast for me
They should give an option to upgrade the resolution with extra $
-
Yeah, I know the screen is not the best, but my laptop is hooked to a monitor most of the time, so I don't really care much
Meanwhile, I am so glad I ordered it today
The BING cashback is only 10% now
I got the 25% and the confirmation
So I am a very happy camper

Where's Andres1 with his games review of the N82?
Was hanging out to see how bfbc2 plays. -
It's either the N82JV or Envy 14 for me, the first one to come will be mine!
I just hope any of them comes out soon enough =) -
Here is the update, their first shipment is less than 50 units so instead of 1 unit per reseller they've decided to wait a little bit longer to launch the product, G73Jh is already a disaster.
-
Wow, looks like Asus is having some supply issues
I hope this doesn't mean there are delays on other upcoming models >< -
They always have supply issues as usual.
-
How ironic that a company that's constantly trying to increase its presence and sell more products isn't shipping enough products to satisfy the demand.
-
WoH ! I think their employees are on summer vacation or key resources might have left the company
-
I wonder if this is due to some ASUS manifacturing constrains or they have too short supply for different components.
-
hi guys,
do you think that a sony vaio series S could be on the same league of n82? I need a laptop now with an i5 CPU and with 14'' display, and I have no idea what to get in Europe... suggestions? I don't care about the graphic card, because I don't play games or watch movies. -
I'm afraid the Motion of the Ocean won't do it in this case,
the Size of the Shipment is what counts!
-
So... any updated predictions for when the N82 will be released this time?
EDIT: Got an e-mail from our friend Gary at ASUS, says the N82 "should be launching in late June in North America." -
In late June you will get an email from Garry that says "the N82 should be launching in late August in North America."
Order an HP Envy 14 when they are released on June 27th.

Yeah, Unless they release the N82 for a lot less than the Envy 14 I cant see much of a reason to go with Asus.
-
Still waiting for the man from Portugal with his N82 too give us some game benchies....
-
Neither laptop is perfect, although some fit better than others for each person. Envy14 seems to offer better things, but asus still has optimus over switchable if that matters. What im interested on seeing on the Envy14 is heat management, the Envy15 struggled with i7 at least early revisions (dont have a optical drive like the envy14), while its been really good with i5 or later releases, this is not to say that N82 would be better in that aspect, usually asus if anything runs hot at least in their gaming laptops, but i haven't had any issues while i seen friends with a lot of problems with hp. All of this is speculation as neither model is out, but is something that ill keep my eye on on both models.
