if you've been reading, people expect the battery life to be about 4-5 hours ;D based off of current laptops such as the x83.

It should be pretty good with a 8cell battery when you don't play games or stress the system.

asdf916 - agreed, my ASUS a8js is dying.... the power brick has to have the cord coming out of it bent a certain way for it to work, one of the touchpad buttons doesn't work, a hinge is almost broken, and the screen assembly is coming apart. As of now I'm reduced to my 14" laptop being a "desktop replacement...."

Since the engadget article is from March 1st and today IS ... yesterday's TOMORROW, shouldn't TODAY have been that press conference? And all they showed us is some N43 and N63 and whatever with no specs? :(
This is so bad, I already waited one and a half MONTHs for this damn thing.

if the y460 has the same chasis and internal components and structure as the y450 (basically they just swapped out the proc and vc), i doubt i'll get this. i had a chance to test out the y450 some time ago, the one with the 130m gets hot, and it radiates through the case in a sense that i could feel it in the palm rest, and the one 210m showed little improvement

though it may have a 5650 with it so..... asus better hurry up

    Near 40 celsius degree.
But you have also to consider, that it is Thailand there.
It was measured while having high humidity and about 32 celsius degree.
Guess it is some degrees cooler if you are not living in the tropical regions.
But i guess it is still acceptable for me, cause while being mobile the GPU is disabled anyways. And when enabled it is on the table or elsewhere. So i don't care too much about temperature if everything is still in the green zone.

I am more interested in the battle between the displays and the chasis.

So is Asus really going to go through a whole week of CeBit without releasing information on the N82. Or is the company just slow playing the news.

All of these US sites covering CeBit live and the only report on the N82 display is a german site. Really? Try a translation of the site. Do one of the comments suggest a black model? No inf. on price or release yet but the model shown looks like aproduction model. If Optimus is automatic, what are the GPU switches for.

    Bronsky

The Price of the N82 will be in the same region as the N61...

YES. Please tell us on the screen quality as well! I'm especially nervous about the contrast of this thing (easily tested if you go on Blackle or something).

Glad to see they DO have the N82 on display.

Unless this gets a higher res screen, I'll probably end up getting the BB Sony CW, with a 1600x900 display.

Hi! I'm writing this directly from the Cebit... I had a look at the N82 and Must say it's a really nice notebook. The Ram of the 335m is only DDR3 and not GDDR3, but as an Asus- Employee told me the final Notebook will also come with an Ati 5730. Also you can choose a Core I7 and Not only an I3 or an I5. The Display is glare but is Not so Bad As I thougt before. Not the best One, but quite better than my Packard-Bell easynote tj75. The viewing angle is OK and the Blacklevel is the Same As the N61. Sorry for my Bad english. i Write this with my Iphone...

The PB easynote tj75 should have around 200cd/m². If the N82 is really brighter, than it should be ok (to use a foil).
Actually, is there a glass panel infront of the display?

Well, i don't know about the contrast of the N61, but it shouldn't be good.
Only very few notebooks have displays with good contrasts.

But the ATI 5730 is a very good news!

    Thanks for the live coverage.

Optimus is just a marketing name for "automatic switching", the actual hardware is in the chipset that has nothing to do with nvidia. The Lenovo Y460 has a HD 5650 and supports switching, just not automatic. You'd have to press the button.
I most sincerely hope the engineer didn't make a mistake and that there's ACTUALLY going to be a 5730 in a 14". I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

Hi! It's very hard too Test the Display, because the Neon lights etc., but the colors look great so far... I'll buy a N82 and then check out at Home...
On the Sticker in Front of the notebook it says available with core i3 and Core I5 but the n82 on the Cebit has a Core I7 in it, and the engeneer told me, that the I7 will also available. Also the 5730 from Ati... Ehen you choose the Ati-Card you have to Change the graphics-Card yourself, because Optimus is only for Nvidia- Cards... The engeneer Said, that the N82 will Be released in the Next 3-4 weeks After the Cebit. The Chassis on the cebit was Black/ Grey and u cant See something Brown...

I'll Write a Review As soon As i have it at Home :)

That's very nice to hear that the thing's not brown :)

Since ASUS no longer builds custom order laptops, if there is an HD 5730 variant, then there should be a preconfigured model, right?
