3-4 weeks? Damnit! I don't think I can wait that long!

Why did Asus add a cover for the ports on the right side of the laptop? That would be annoying to have to open that anytime you wanted to plug into your network.
-
-
Yeah, for me at least it would be too. I think the G72 I'm considering has those too, and basically they'd always be open.

Will this have VT support? The specified processors support it, but some manufacturer's like Lenovo have been known to disable it for some reason.
-
Hmm... if you look at this page
http://support.asus.com/faq/model_list_faq.aspx?product=7&SLanguage=en-us
There's a N82JV and a... N82JQ!!!
This is going to be good... -
Any speculation on what the difference between the JV and JQ would be? Have they used these letters before? -
I believe the JVs are the ones with Optimus; the other models probably come with ATI cards which have manual switching. I'll probably pick whichever model that isn't brown lol -
I've got my eye on this one too. It looks like exactly what I want (wanted a better processor and better company reputation than the Alienware M11x, but still wanted powerful switchable graphics in <= 14")... I just sold my old Gateway P-6831FX for $700, and I'll probably sell my netbook as soon as this thing's available and pick it up. -
Do resellers (specifically xoticpc) start carrying new models as soon as they're announced, or does it take a while before that happens?
-
It's a good beet that the JQ has the 5730, because it isn't listed on the NVIDIA Optimus driver page while the Jv is. However, the "Q" also suggests a quad-core, and if that's the case I'm going for the Jv.
-
-
-
Quad cores don't have the integrated graphics package (at least not at the moment) if they do want to keep that as a feature without adding in a separate GMA.
My guess would be that the JQ version has an ATI card and maybe a little better of an i5 or the dual core i7. -
Considering the extra expense of implementing switchable graphics with an ATI card, quad-core and no switchable graphics is still a possibility.
-
Did i read correctly?
Quad core in this laptop!ATI 5730!
Sign me up. -
It's just speculation, but yeah, if there's an N82JQ I'd expect it to be similar to the N61JQ and the N71JQ in specs.
-
Atleast Asus should give option to customize the screen resolution as the resellers does for other componets without voiding the warranty. -
if you really dont like this resolution i think your going to have to move up a screen size or two -
the sony CW has a resolution of 1400x900
but the 1366 x 768 is fine for me, and smaller my eyes would start to hurt -
There's plenty of 1600x900 laptops at 14" e.g. Sony VAIO CW and Dell Studio 14; there's even 13" laptops with 1600x900 like the VAIO Z.
I'm satisfied with 1366x768, though. -
Hope this lappy would be available till the end of March. -
I'm amazed they can cram an i7 and a 5730 in such a small lappy... well I'm sold. As much as I like the concept of switchable graphics, I can live with the battery time of a discrete only sollution, if it's a 8 cell battery. And the ATI mobility GPU's don't use much power either in 2d.
I just hope they'll bring this out with a backlit keyboard. That would really make me a happy camper. -
Any detailed official specs of this lappy ? I hope it has not yet announced by Asus at Cebit, but still 33 pages @ NBR ! btw, what is its base price ?
-
No one knows what the starting price is or the release date.
Yet -
-
What about ports? Like how many USB ports does it have? I'd also love to see some pics of this one in good angles,I hope it doesn't have too many ports on the lower right side of the laptop because that isn't very comfortable when I have a mouse plugged in.
Grateful for any answers -
Ports... three USB 2.0, one USB 3.0.
-
Any chance that there will be a model with Radeon 5XXX series and Bluray?
-
Bluray, probably not. But if you look a few pages back there's speculation that there IS one with 5730.
-
Bluray is still a possiblity too, we don't have any info on the optical drives yet I don't think.
-
one of the pictures says "dvd super multi, blu-ray combo". -
-
Like many of you, I'm really hoping this one works out. I need a notebook but have held off on buying because the early word on specs makes the N82 a perfect fit for me (portable, good graphics/CPU power, good battery life via integrated/dedicated switching).
Here's hoping we can actually order it soon. -
Come on Asus....just speed up your releases a bit.

It's the switchable graphics with a good midrange card, and the Core i CPU - which translates (or should) into solid battery life and performance, as the previous poster said.
