that battery looks VERY similar to the ones in the k42/k52 and that one has a six cell :|

How is 1336x768 resolution on a 14"?
I have the UL50Vt (1336x768 on 15.6") and it is very uncomfortable for me. Should I expect a similar experience with the N82Jv? I suppose 1.6" will make a big difference, however. -
I'm actually glad it's a brown lid color: less people will go for the n82, so the people that do own the n82 can form a more exclusive group. Plus, I plan to do this mod:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=450867
Nothing like an ugly color to deter would-be thieves, as well. I may keep the brown color just so thieves are less likely to steal my notebook, and more likely to steal MacBooks.
-
I'm running 1280*800 on a 15.6" Acer at the moment, and that feels very comfortable to me...
How does it feel uncomfortable to you? Resolution too high or low? -
The brown color wouldn't keep me from buying it, but I don't know why they wouldn't go with a brushed aluminum look instead. That seems to be more popular.
-
I hope it comes out with a 8cell battery or atleast a stronger 6 cell battery.
4400mAh, 49Wh isn't that great.
I mean, i don't understand it, if they don't include a better battery with it, when even Netbooks come with 6600mAh batteries sometime.
But i guess this has something to do with marketing strategies, likes offer a stronger battery for a high price. -
It ain't no damn bloody typo look through the pictures there's one with a close up of the battery stating that the voltage is 11.2V, and since lithium ion cells are ~3.6V each (fixed by the electrical properties of the cathode/anode pair) that notebook battery is configured with two parallel series of 3 cells per series to give the 11.2V overall. An 8 cell battery has the same voltage as a 4 cell battery which is about 14.8V, same as what my G1S has.
:'( -
Hey!! there is no Expresscard slot???!! DAMN! I won't be able to do some DIY vidocq....
-
BUT a typo is easier to handle than a design fault
As we can see on the picture, the 4400mAh fits exactly.
I think 8 cell will be optional. Position of the battery slot enables a 8 cell battery which might slightly overtop the edge. -
The quoted weight is 2.3kg and the measured weight according to the new pictures is 2.3kg with 6 cell...
-
Indeed the Acer 3820 is looking very good. The only thing going for the Asus is the USB3.0 and Optimus; however the Acer has a superior video card in a much lighter 13.3" body.
I think in the end it will come down to price and reviews for me. -
Exactly! There is no space for 2 additional cells.
bye bye 8 cell :'( -
Thank You, yeah i am planning to do some gaming on this computer. I am going to college this fall so i need a good comp for college and do some gaming such as bf2 and probably mw2. I dont think i need an i7 and yes i was kinda worried about the heat problem with the dell. I think i might just wait for the n82
-
do you think the n82 would be fine for games like bf2 and mw2?
-
Quite easily. MW2 is well optimized and BF2 is ... five years old.
-
I would even expect the N82JV to handle Crysis on medium settings.
-
Well the chinese pictured model might be the version for the pacific market and the Cebit version for the rest of us, who knows.
I choose to live in fairy lala land then, and will expect it to retail here with an 8 cell as it has been shown with several times in print. -
It's not easy to implement a system that has an option for both 6 cell and 8 cell because of the inherent and unchangeable voltage difference. There is a big reason why the so called "extended batteries" are usually going from 6 cell to 9 cell: adding another 3-cell series to the battery is easy as it only adds capacity. Adding two cells to a six cell battery on the other hand requires some redesigning of the circuitry... at least a different power system.
Besides, the batteries usually consist of a couple of 18650 cells which have standardized size, so adding two cells requires a redesign of the battery pack and hence the chassis. -
Agreed i will also live in fairy lala land with you in hopes that there will be a 8 cell battery. Since the march&april still states an 8 celled battery for the n82 im hopeful. -
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-335M.24060.0.html
The N82JV should be able to run Modern Warfare 2 smoothly on medium and high settings and Crysis on medium settings. -
The problem with the 335M benchmarks to date is that they are mostly held back by the m11x; e.g. the 330M got better results in Crysis.
-
Chinese site has a review of the N82:
http://nb.zol.com.cn/168/1688249.html
can someone with some knowledge of 3DMark Vantage give me some interpretation of the result? I am unfamiliar with that benchmark. It is run at 1024 x 768, though. -
seems like the notebook reviewed above had the intel HD graphics and not the 335m
-
Scroll down, the second one is with the 335M.
-
It is said in that article that that number (14712) is approximately 20% higher than 240M GT (on the same setting, I suppose)
-
hahah yeah i just love playing bf2 its such a classic game
-
for the street fighter IV/RE5 benchmark i mean
-
Good find.
The display seems pretty good for Asus-standards.
Too bad that guy didn't test the batterylife.....well, with that 6cell, 4900mAh battery, it shouldn't be that good. -
Wrong thread!
-
So... release date????

IKilledYourHamster Notebook Evangelist
i hope by end of march! if not, perhaps in april.
-
If I'm going to buy it has to beat the new Acer Timeline series to stores. I need a laptop before I travel in April.
-
A little bit OT:
why the obsession with killing hamsters, you two? -
Haha, in my case "Hamster" and "-kill" stem from two separate inside jokes with my closest friends when I was a kid. Neither of which involves the death of a hamster.
-
A lot of these laptops would be perfect, except for the low res 1366*768 panels. Which leads me to the question:
How hard would it be to upgrade the panel yourself to a higher resolution (such as 1600 x 900)? Would there be seals broken that would void warranty? Is it even possible (has it ever been done on these Asus models, do the graphics cards support it)?
https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/section/search/ has aftermarket screens for pretty cheap. -
Could be done. if you search around there's someone that put a 1080p screen on a G51 that didn't have it previously. But it's not always easy, the connectors must fit exactly. Also, the warranty is voided, for certain. Asus plasters those little yellow warranty stickers everywhere inside.
-
I personaly don't mind the 1366x768 res as long as it's a good quality screen.
-
I too was wondreing about that...we've heard Hamsterkill's story, now it's time for IKilledYourHamster if we may be curious.

of course, here comes Acer with their 13.3" packed with a 5650... I am still interested in the N82Jv but i found a new love for now. we will see when prices and final components are set..
uh... me too! yes, yes... nothing to do with killing hamsters...
-
I personally worried for low resolution 1366x768 screen. Its a crap and yes may be suitable if you will always use your laptop for gaming. But if you want to work with apps like Visual Studio, you are gone.
-
how well does this compete with the lenovo y460?
-
Essentially the same. The Y460 wins in gaming, N82 has usb3.0 (but no expresscard); and the standard asus warranty. Both have the same res that has chewed up about 4 pages of this thread.
-
Isn't there still a chance there's a version of the N82 with the 5650? I don't see why you'd say the Y460 wins in gaming, even if there isn't one with the 5650, the 335M isn't a slouch, and besides that Chinese website, hasn't been tested outside of the M11x with the SU7300 holding it back. Also, the Y460 doesn't have switchable graphics does it? It doesn't say so on Lenevo's website.
-
is there that much of a difference between the n82 and the asus k42jr besides optimus and usb3.0?
-
Y460 does have switchable but I assume it's manual.wait a minute.. 1366x768 is full hd ?! they lied !!
N82 has i7, 2MP camera, 8cell -
Sorry, offtopic... but that sentence holds more than one truth.
Here are the specs again in answer to the latest queries:
-
I want JQ
i7 core in this small package pretty impressive.
I just hope it manages the heat well.
Brown color makes it look... Blah ....Why this color
-
I was a bit sceptic about the colour as well, but having looked at the latest pics, I found I like it. It's relaxing to the eye, and has more character than all the standard black and brushed alu seen everywhere.
It's NOT a Thinkpad or a MacBook, it's an ASUS!
-
same here, im kinda getting used to the brown, and if dont like that, ill just mod it like what some user did with his n81
might i say, faux leather on a laptop looks very very elegant, did it on my hpdv3 before i sold it
