Has anyone finally managed to update the n56jr to win 8.1?
I am running win 8 now and tried to update a month ago. It ended in horror, due to the fact that gtx760m never worked.
If you managed to update, what steps did you take and what order? Should I update all the drivers to win 8.1 on the Asus driver site first or what?

i'm runing W7 and i've juste managed to update to the last nvidia driver 337.88
it is working well without any issue , i'm happy with it. -
Hello everybody.
I am close to buy the N56JR (S4075H), but I am a bit hesitated because I have seen the display of N56VV and I really didn't like it.
Although, I have also seen the display of N56DY and I found it OK.
So, I wonder if the display (hardware ID is lgd02d9) of N56JR (S4075H) is better than N56VV which is a horrible display in my opinion.
Thanx. -

There will be slight different results depending how good your chip is of course.
Overclocked you'll end around 4000 points in 3dmark11 (combined score). -
I successfully installed Windows 7 on my new ASUS N56JR-MH71. Unfortunately, it doesn't recognize the Realtek Ethernet Controller, so I can't connect to the internet to run Windows Update. I tried installing the driver from the ASUS DVD directly, but it failed. Executing the ASUS DVD autorun requires some .NET Framework that comes from Windows Update. Any help or advice is appreciated.

Comparing to N56VV is less or more grainy? N56VV's display is unbearably grainy and colors/contrast are not so good. -
Hi,
Is the DVD burner extremely noisy running like a table fan or floor fan? I used it the first time yesterday and it sounded like a big fan.
Thanks! -
All the DVD drives i know do extremely loud sound when burning dvds
-
Eventually, I bought it (ASUS N56JR - S4075H). The first impression is really good, especially regarding the sound.
The screen is indeed a bit grainy, but it is OK after all. -

So cloned HDD to a Samsung 750GB EVO. All is fine but the included Samsung migration utility did not copy over the the recovery partition. And the recovery is not recognizing the recovery partition on the usb flash drive I had copied over initially when I first set up the system.
Suggestions on what my options are please? Use a different program like Macrium Reflect or Acronis or something and clone again?
Thanks! -

The antennae work fine with 5ghz frequencies.

Hi guys - I am looking at this laptop as it seems to be the best value for the performance. Some questions please:
1. I read a review where someone was blasting this unit, saying the could not get Windows 8.1 to work properly with it. Is that true?
2. I read here there are problems with the WiFi card. That doesn't sound good, and I'm not in a position to mod it with a different card.
3. I also read that the screen is a little grainy, which is surprising given that its 1920x1080.
4. Most importantly - what other brand laptop and model would come closest to this spec?
On paper this sounds like a great laptop, but I really don't need headaches from dropped WiFi or problems with Windows 8.1 not operating properly, driver issues etc.
Thanks! -
1. ASUS Already give the drivers to win8.1
2. The n56 can come with an atheros card or an Intel card (the best)
3. I like the screen, its not an IPS but is good compared with others TN displays
4. Can't help in this , but maybe the MSI ge60 apache? I don't know the market there. -

I recently bought an SSD and the caddy for it to replace the DVD drive, and the enclosure for the dvd drive. Would it be better to put the SSD in place of the HDD and then move the HDD to the optical drive caddy, or to just install the SSD in the optical drive caddy and set it as the first boot option?
-
The internal drive its more fast because its SATA 3 the CD/DVD drive its more slower

The optical bay may be SATA III, Haswell introduced more SATA iii ports on the chipset. Plug it in and check but at worst it will be SATA ii.

Hey guys, I've posted a little while back about applying some arctic silver 5 onto the cpu and gpu, and was wondering if anyone was brave enough to pry open their Asus for some self application? I'm still on the fence about this, and beginning to worry about the lifespan of my cpu/gpu...(I was gaming for about 2 hours or so and my cpu reached a max of 94!!! Kind of scary being only 6 degrees celcius away from max..) Other then that, THIS LAPTOP IS JUST TOOOOOO AWESOME!! Been about 4-5 months now and still beastin it out!!

Additionally, using a laptop cooler can help to drive more airflow thus cooling the components better. -
Hi guys
and girls if there is any! I just bought this amazing Laptop 1 week ago and everything is working fine! The only thing i need is an SSD, so Can i ask wich SSD did you all buy to your Asus?
i´m looking at the Samsung 840 Evo 250 GB
-
I buy that one too

If possible, try getting a 500GB instead if you are the type of person who likes to cram data into your storage. -
Im using 250gb SSD + 750gb original HDD in an caddy. That way the space is enough
-
^ thats exactly how im gonna do
Put the Hdd in the DVDslot and the SSD where the HDD is right now and use it as the main one

Yes notebooks tend to use F2 or the del key.

i'm getting code 43 for my nvidia graphics card and its not working. anyone have some idea how to get my nvidia card working again?

-
Thanks for your help.
Kept the latest driver, tried battery thing which worked
was afraid that graphics card might be damaged due to overgaming. -
Hardware problem! Bad plastic or owertighten screws.
I bought this laptop and I noticed that when opening it gap apears on the back of it, in the corners, where top alu part meet lower plastic part. I thought screws are loose, and try to tighten them up, but then I found out that they can't be tightened. I looks like screw holders are broken. When you positioned it reverse, with back of laptop turned towards you. And try to open it you'll see that all presure is transfered to two little bolts which are not enough to hold it.
Someone else noticed this? Can ovners check this thing?

When I explained to mate, je said je doesnt have problem, but then I showed him that he has it but didnt noticed it.
I think it's general problem problem because I returned two laptops before this one for same reason. On this it just didn't apeared at first. It apeared after two months.
Curently it's not with me but the location is like in picture below.
This is asus n61, but just to have the picture
Position your laptop like this and start open/close the display. You'll see how the lower plastic on the arrow position bends down. -
Not having that problem with either of mine.

Hi everyone, i have had this laptop for four months or so now. I am very happy with it, with a few exceptions.
I am running 8.1, fixed the hdmi audio problem so its mostly ok.
But there have been three times i opened the lid, and the screen stayed off, and the power button did nothing, i had to remove the battery to fix it.
Then the only other problem i have run across was earlier today. I opened up my laptop, then my keyboard was not responding, in chrome, or any other programs. Restarting fixed this.
Other than that, just a few questions. what is the common way to see temps in cpu and gpu?
MY nvidea card shows up in my manager, and says it is fine, but seeing other people with 8.1 having problems is it something i should wrry about?
Thanks all. -
Looking through some more posts reminded me of other questions.
What is the full hd download a few pages back for, im assumeing fullhd, but am unsure of what that is...
and what exactly is wrong with the atheros wifi card? -
When it starts with no display, have you tried holding the power button down for 30 or so seconds to see if it shut off? My N56DP does that in linux. My N56VZ has never done it, running windows 8.0. I think it might be hardware not software related on my machine.
The Atheros and Broadcom cards are both pretty mediocre performers, and in linux they're even worse, so on my linux laptop I'm running an Intel 6250 and am real happy with it. Sadly you have to disassemble the N56 Intel machines to replace the wifi card, as it's halfway under the case. Luckily tearing the bottom off an N56 is pretty easy. There's a good N56 tear down video on youtube.
For watching temps I use HWMonitor32. -
When I open the lid, theres like 2-3mm gap between the lower and upper chasis by the left display hinge. I also thought that the screw might be loosen, but it cant be tighten.
Shlould I got a replacement? -
Bingo. Thats it.
You should. I gave my to service, waiting for the answer. We will see what will happen. -
Am also having this problem.
Actually i sometimes hear tak-tak sound when i open the lid but never had inspected where it came from.
Thanks for solving the mystery -
Yes! Make a break. Take a tik tak
