hey folks, wondering if i should be worried or not. bought a n56jr and found a small issue that's been bugging me a bit - whenever i press on the right side of the lid, i can hear a crackling noise, as if there is a gap inside and the front part of the screen is not shut tight to the back. i circled the exact area here - imgur: the simple image sharer. Anyone else having the same issue?

Hello everyone,
I want to buy this laptop, but i read that it has problems with graphics card on windows 8 and 8.1.
My questions are:
1. is that problem solved? If is solved, can you describe me how?
2. Can i install windows 7 on this laptop? Does it have drivers for win7?
3. If i install windows 7, does the graphics problem still appears?
I really like laptop and its configuration, but only dealbreaker is that graphic problem.
Thank you -
That graphic problem if appear you only need to turn off and on the graphic card. Why w7? With w8.1 you can chose to go directly to desktop and its the same or better that w7
-
How do you mean turn off and on graphic card?
Do you mean in device manager just disable, restart laptop and then enable graphic card?
I didnt use win8 so far. I asked for win7, just in case if i dont like win8 so i can put win7. -
Yes, or if the screen turn black you need to get out the battery to force the windows to detect the card
-
Ok,thank you!

Hello guys,
I bought this laptop yesterday and now have two problems with it. The first is electric current feeling in everywhere of metallic body of laptop during charging which makes me crazy. Is it dangerous for laptop and may damage its electrical circuits and what's the reason?
The second problem is the touch pad. The right click with two finger doesn't work very well. Sometimes I have to repeat this gesture three times to activate the pop up menu. Is there any idea? -
Is there no one to answer my question?
-
may have to do with Earth plug that may be giving bad connection, try changing the plug. on the touch you can always upgrade the program version
-
Thank you so much.Today I found out in my apartment there isn't any Earth connection, i.e. all plugs have only two ports. So I got a trick and connect the Earth plug of charger to near window through a wire(also I did it for my refrigerator). Fortunately it seems I've gotten rid of the skin buzz problem and I don't feel electric current anymore. Is this work correct?
For touch pad do I upgrade only gesture program? Do I need to upgrade the bios too? -
I think you can update the program, I see an vídeo where they put an wire to force Earth conection
-
Thank you Dear Tenico.
I'm going to update the program. I hope it works!
Oh, Could you please put the link of the video if it's possible. -
@hundreder and anyone else experiencing the issue with the noise emitting from the corner of your laptop when opening the lid...
My laptop just started doing this as well and its starting to bug the HELLL out of me.. is there a fix to this? What should I do? -

Which corner, one with the hinges? Maybe some grease would fix it.
-
Return it. It's broken. Inside, the plastic in which the screw is tightened to is broken so it doesn't hold the screw.
Take the laptop in your hands and face it with the side making the noise facing your eyes. Now start opening it and closing to reproduce the sound. Watch as gap apears between plastic and aluminium near the hindges. Noise is product of screw kicking it the alu part of the chasis. -
hi,
A noise from left side of my laptop is heard when is on battery. When charger is plugged in this noise is disappears. I'm sure this is not from fan. What's this noise? Does anyone know? -
yeah thats exactly whats happening... No wonder I kept hearing loose plastic pieces inside my laptop whenever I shook it and eventually, those little pieces came out.. I always wondered where thye came from.. Well that sucks, because I can't return it now... I bought the laptop well over 3 months ago... i wonder if Asus would fix it for free?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's a manufacturing defect so I would have thought so. If you only got the machine 3 months ago it should still be under warranty anyway.
-
Please answer my question, My laptop noise is not from plastic pieces. I think it's from feed connection from battery. It's an electrical noise and when charger is plugged in it disappears.

Best to contact MSI to have the motherboard replaced due to defective power circuit. -
I bought it only 1 week ago.

You can do DOA exchange instead since it has only been a week old. -

Hello guys , i bought an ASUS N56JR about a week ago and i installed win 8.1 on it and tried to install the drivers from the disk in the laptop case . While trying to install the drivers ( i think it was the nvidia graphic card ) , laptop got too damn hot and restarted three times . After that i could here the harddisk noise from the left part of lap top , but it went away after a few hours of use . But the main problem came up when i installed farcry 3 on it and it got even hotter and then a freaky noise could be heard from laptop's fan . After a few hours of use with the noise being there suddenly when i was playing Dota 2 the noise went away and then there was a horroble frame rate drop which couldnt be tollerated at all . I tried to play on the lowest settings but still there was frame rate drop . And the problem is still there . i would really apreciate your answers .
-
My answer..return it. You are under warranty. They'll fix it.

Yeah that sounds like a hardware issue, get a replacement.

Are there any mSATA slots inside this thing?
I've been seeing this machine around, convinced a friend to snag the model from MicroCenter and the IPS screen is absolutely breathtaking. That and the performance of the machine might warrant paying only $800 for such a machine, provided the GPU can be overclocked easily enough.
That and IF the machine has an mSATA slot... >.> -

+1
It's 5bucks solution, and you can also get cd enclosure to get an external CD drive -
Has anyone managed to get into the fancy UEFI menu? I was expecting the UEFI menu with the fancy GUI like the Asus desktop mobos counterparts, but I found that it just has a good ol BIOS interface. Is this still UEFI? I'm confused, can someone shred a little light into it?

Hey guys,
After all the research I've done on this laptop, I am finally ready to purchase it however, can't seem to find any NEW ones, they all seem to be used
Did they stop making this? Please help me guys... -
It might be because Asus has rebranded the N56jr under their 'ROG' (Republic of Gamers) brand. Look for the Asus G56jr instead --> Notebooks & Ultrabooks - G56JR - ASUS -
Hey guys,
My laptop wakes up unconsciously from sleep mode after about 2 hours when the lid is closed. Was some timer activated or another problem accounted for it? -
-
Please answer my question...

No, I haven't. It happened three times until now and in each time after about 2 hours it woke up.

Is there any hardware problem? Whenever I close the lid, it wakes up after about 2 hours later. I'm so confused. Can anyone help me please?

I've been having a pretty weird issue that I have no been able to find a solution to. The computer will randomly lock up for about a minute or so. I can open new tabs on my browser but nothing will load, any games I am playing will freeze, but I can still move my mouse and click on things and alt+tab through programs. After about 1-2 minutes of just being locked up it will go back to normal. Sometimes I go a week without it happening, other days it will happen 4 times in an hour. I have no idea what is causing this issue and I seem to be the only person on the internet experiencing it. Anyone know what it could be?
-
Hi guys, some suffer freezing CPU to 0.77 Ghz using the balanced plan that brings Windows 8.1?
Only happens to me when the computer when connected to the battery, not to AC.
This steeps reproduced the error:
Start Computer while on DC power -> Unit works normally -> Put laptop in stand by -> Unplug unit from DC power -> bring computer back from standby -> Computer is now LOCKED at .77GH ->
The ONLY way to get it unlocked is to plug it back in. Otherwise, it will always be stuck at .77 Ghz. not even a computer restart unlocks it.
Thanks -
Out of curiosity, are we able to hook up a 120hz monitor to this laptop either through VGA or Hdmi? I'm unsure of how this works... (I know that a Display port will definitely support up to 144hz but since our n56jr doesn't have that..) Thanks guys!

The Intel chip can be a little finicky with high refresh rate displays.

hi everyone
I just bought a new N56JR for me, and ever since I got it I'm feeling nervous about my laptop temperature when I play games.
I wanted to ask how much temperature and hoe much maxmimum temp should I expect from my laptop?
beacause usually I get 60-75 degree of (c) and a maximum of 80 - 87 degree on my CPU cores without coolpad.
thanks a lot -
Has anyone noticed some sound vibrations/rattling when you set the volume too high? It seems it occurs only on the right speakers, but when I press down on the aluminum casing, the rattling/vibrations would minimize to a acceptable volume. Anyone? Its been bothering me for quite some time, and I'm on the fence to take it apart or to send it in..(although I've had 0 luck with Asus service emailing me back on different minor issues i've had so far.)
Opinions on the N56JR..
