Hey chill buddy!
Due to the architectural difference between 32bit and 64 bit, you cannot do an in-place upgrade from 32bit XP to 64 bit Vista. And their upgrade path also stated that XP x64 edition is eligible for Vista 64bit, but XP 32 is eligible for only Vista 32bit.
-
I also believe that the upgrade path (as stated on http://event.asus.com/vistaupgrade/) was changed at some point over the past 5 months. -
The upgrade path description was changed, when I signed up for the program in Febuary or so, I was given the option to pick 32bit or the 64bit version of Vista eventhough i had XP Pro. So I assummed they were gonna just give out clean copies of Vista and people can do clean installs without XP, which means ur technically not upgradeing ontop of the 32bit operating system. -
-
Has anyone received it yet?
-
Status on 3rd day : COA Validated still.......getting impatient lol......i forgot how long it will take. PoP should be with them by now since i used local mail to Moduslink Asia (techno park @chai chee Suite 987.)
-
still on "Order is approved".....since March 12
-
Now on 'Order Received' - been so since Sunday I think (and after I wrote in to them asking how long it will take until it ships because I was at 'Order sent to back office' for what must have been 3-4 weeks). I sent in my COA Feb 28so its moving along slowly..
-
They sure are slow. Maybe we can really consider a law-suit.
Anyway status on 4th day : Still COA is Approved. -
Order is cancelled!!!!!
What the hell - its been COA/POP approved for 5 weeks - how can it be cancelled now?
I see someone else has this. I just emailed then - but what should I expect to happen? I posted the bloody invoice 6 weeks ago now -
i advise you to QUICKLY resubmit
-
does that mean I need to send the invoice again - because i can't they already have the damn thing.
One possible reason they could have cancelled it - one of my credit cards expires today. Obviously I've been issued a new one but the card number is different. Not sure which card I put the £4 postage costs on but it could have been that one. However when I supplied the card details (over 6 weeks ago) obviously it was valid. That better not be the reason!!! -
Which version of XP (32/64bit) do you have and which version of Vista(32/64bit) did you order? Possible scenario is that you clicked on the 64bit upgrade disc when you have a 32bit XP. -
I have windows XP pro - and I clicked on Windows Vista Business 64-bit CD/DVD
That should be ok right? -
-
Thank goodness I selected 32 over 64bit Vista. Was about to select the 64bit for futureproofing (even though I had a 32bit CPU), but decided against it because of 64bit drivers and application problems.
Guess I made the right choice! -
Hmm, can we use a product key obtained from a 32bit Vista and use it on on a 64bit version of Vista?
-
another week gone, i still stuck in order is approved! What the hell is Moduslink doing!!!
-
Status on 5th day : POP/ COA validated (finally)! 32bit Vista.
Recieved an email from them this morning (nope they never replied to me about the 32bit to 64bit cancellation, shame on they)
"Your validation is now complete and we will be processing your order. You should receive your order within 4-6 weeks and receive email confirmation when your order is shipped. At any time you may also go to https://upgradeweb.moduslink.com/vista/Asustek or email us at [email protected] to check on your order.
"
But more remains to be seen. -
lol...i think is computer reply you! they can't be bother to reply so many emails that from our angry customers!!
-
I am loosing Hope!!!! Mr. Moduslink!
It has been 3 months since i filled up my upgrade form and after sending several emails, faxes more emails.. managed to get COA/POP approved! It has been at that status though for a Month and NOTHING!!!
Guys from your experience how long this COA/POP approved status lasts? I am based in Europe (MALTA). Shall i download the Pirate copy??
If someone from Microsoft is in this forum: My order id is: 1340470.
Thanks -
Maybe you can call their number? The toll-paid ones? -
Just called their toll free no. actually.. The Blame is on ASUS they said!
ASUS has not started delivering the upgrade yet they claimed!!! LOL
EL GRECO -
That time when i called the toll free ones, i got an automated reply. "Thank you for your support in the Microsoft Vista Express Upgrade Program. For queries, please email to Moduslink" ** This is the rough reply i can remember.** So....emailed them....
-
the frustration in getting what we were promised is already making me regret doing it the legal proper way. what kind of company is this that we are subject to such terrible service? this is totally unacceptable that we have to wait months for an "express" upgrade. it really appears that they were ill prepared for this and the way they are handling the situation is even worse. i'm not even using the laptop nearly as much because i know i'm going to wipe everything to install vista, but at this rate using the timestop to use vista seems more of a viable option.
and microsoft complains of illegal copies of windows. -
timestop is pretty outdate. you can get it fully activated like how the oems vendors do it.
-
Ok so heres my log so far
March 28th: Order resubmitted - Status: COA validated
April 3rd: Received Proof of Purchase confirmation email - Status: POP/COA validated
What is interesting is they have less than a month before I need to contact them saying my order has not been received yet! -
well i hope itll give me a cd key that i will be able to just use on 64bit version.
Because the Vista Business, that i recieved from school, has 1 cd key/person, but that key works on both the 32 bit or 64 bit install disc. -
You guys are lucky your status still says approved.
I just checked mine and apparently the status has been updated to, get ready... ORDER CANCELLED.
In the email they sent me it essentially says "the COA you provided was from 32 bit XP but you have ordered 64 bit Vista. We are cancelling your order to ensure the upgrade process works correctly".
This company is absolute garbage. -
@ITF : Refer to the letter/post #415 above. they are correct in the 32bit to 64bit incompatibility. -
I know they are correct but as I stated in the email I sent back to them, I am fully aware of my computers abilities and compatibilities. I ordered 64 bit knowingly and intentionally, all this running around I've had to do with bloody moduslink is a joke.
-
or else you will have a harder time convincing them for an upgrade later on.
a lot of us who ordered 64 bit got canceled including mines. its better you reenter your order so that you are ahead of every one else inline. -
Did you order 64 bit in your new order?
-
Have fun trying to reenter your details I'm pretty sure the due date was 31st march!
Also when I was reentering.....32bit was only option available.
They are right though....they shouldn't have offered 64bit in the first place which is the problem we are complaining about. -
Can resubmit the order by April 15th for those whose 64bit order got cancelled.
-
mine Window Xp is come together with my A8JP so it 32bit or 64bit?
i have emailed them as them to change to 32bit but they refused becaue they said my order is actually ready to ship and i will received it on mid of april..my status still order is approved ! -
-
(IF and only IF you have 32bit XP and your Vista 64 is ready for shipping) ..... imo you're pretty lucky....couple of us with XP 32 tried ordering Vista 64, but all got cancelled. -
FYI everybody: My 64-bit order was canceled at some point in Mar, and I managed to resubmit an order for 64-bit on Mar25... I also sent them an e-mail explaining that I do not understand why we are not eligible for 64-bit, since (from what I understand) we can perform a clean install, which should bypass "technical conflicts" associated with a straight 32-bit to 64-bit upgrade.
Currently, the status of the new order is "POP/COA validated" and I received the following e-mail on Apr2:
Thank you for submitting your Windows Vista Business 64-bit CD/DVD OEM.
Your validation is now complete and we will be processing your order. You should receive your order within 4-6 weeks and receive email confirmation when your order is shipped. At any time you may also go to https://upgradeweb.moduslink.com/vista/Asustek or email us at [email protected] to check on your order.
If you do not receive your order within the time frame specified, please notify us prior to May 1, 2007 for English language versions of the product and June 1, 2007, for non-English language versions of the product so that we may investigate and ship your order. After those dates we may not be able to process your request
Unfortunately, I had received the same e-mail in Feb for my original order.... (which was canceled some time later)
So I don't know if my new order is actually going to be fulfilled, or if I am just going through the same garbage again.
What do you guys think? -
-
just resubmit a new order for 32bit....how hard is that?
-
It's prety F@in hard, when Moduslink doesn't process my emails requesting POP validation... Ive sent several, both resubmitting my POP and also referring to my already validated previous order number (as they requested).
No validation. It's bullsh@t. How ANYONE can stand up for Moduslink is beyond me. -
I do have 32 bit XP.
-
Inefficient Moduslink

We can't always get what we want!

Quick q. Did anyone with XP x64 successfully received Vista x64 upgrade? I submitted for Vista Bus x64, and everything from online status to packing list shows 64bit (except the DVD; neither says 32 or 64).
When I tried to upgrade my PC, it says the upgrade is not supported unless I have XP SP2 or Vista. It will only allow me to do a new install. I am assuming that the DVD/product key that I received is 32bit and so it wouldn't let me upgrade my XP x64 machine.
Just trying to figure out if I messed up something or if I got the wrong dvd/key.
Thanks!
BTW, the whole shipping to delivery part took me 1 week instead of the 3 weeks that's indicated in their email.
EDIT: Ooops, just realized that this is an Asus forum; sorry, I don't have an Asus laptop. -
hehe you are welcome here!! -
I also found out the answer to my problem. Turns out moduslink did sent me the correct DVD. The issue is just that's there's no XP x64 to Vista x64 upgrade path. You need to do a clean install.
I guess at the end my posts didn't help you guys much; but here's the lesson that I've learned:
- If you have XP x64 and you requested Vista x64, Moduslink will send you Vista x64 (the only "x64" label is on the DVD disc)
- No real mention of "x64" in Vista after it's up and running (unlike XP x64); one way to find out is that you'll have "IE" and "IE 64-bit" in your startup menu just like in XP x64
- It took them 1 week from the "your disc has now been shipped" email, to actual delivery (SoCal)
- XP x64 to Vista x64 requires full install; the upgrade option is disabled. It will rename your old Windows, Doc&Settings, ProgFiles, ProgFiles(x86) to all be under "Windows.old". You'll need to reinstall everything and manually copy any user files back.
Cheers and good luck to all in your Vista upgrade!

Yet, that means that making the 64-bit option available to us should not lead to "technical conflicts" as they claim. (because they would have to send us the full version anyways, and we would have to perform a clean install rather than upgrade anyways)
