yea i agree this is stupid, why do they approve the order and why do they have both version options on the upgrade procedure?

If i get the 32 bit version how will i be able to upgrade to 64 bit through microsoft? Will it be a simple free upgrade?

Ok, I am doing a reordering today. i am assuming that the moduslink have removed my COA from their system with that auto cancellation. So here goes.... i hope.
I hear the deadline is drawing near; March 31, 2007.
Since this is the only chance left, i'm going to try.

Oh btw...on a side note i am thinking why moduslink does not notify us of the cancellation (or any cancellation for that matter). Imagine if someone had assumed that his 64bit order is going well, and forgot about it. then when he checks back on the 3rd of April, it gets cancelled.; he finds out he cannot resubmit his order because he missed the March 31 deadline fine print. Sweet deal. Now he ends up with no Vista "Express" upgrade.

I am also reordering even though they didnt tell me to do so, but i dont want to later be told its too late to reorder. As Im doing so, Ive noticed that theres no longer a 64 bit option for windows xp professional.

Would I be able to trade my 32 bit version to 64 bit with Microsoft or something?
This is dumb, dont think they just ran out of 64 bit version...AND WHY WONT THEY LET US KNOW IF THERE ARE PROBLEMS!

It's possible that you may be able to order some 64bit media, not sure if it will work
but you will have to pay for shipping

Sorry to tell you this, but you already missed it ... based on the upgrade site, only laptops that were bought between October 26, 2006 and March 15, 2007are eligible for the free upgrade. You bought your laptop on March 22, you should have asked for a Vista pre installed already.

So you're saying I can do a clean install from the disc I'm getting from moduslink and then...I use the same disc again? Or do I have to use someone else's copy for the first install and then mine to "upgrade"?

    Format you HDD clean.
Cold boot with Vista DVD from Moduslink.
Install Vista without entering the CD KEY.
Login to Vista, run Vista Installation Again.
    Now Insert your CD KEY.
Select the correct version for that CD KEY.
    Let Vista Install and Reboot.
    Done & Enjoy.

I actually posted about this webpage on the previous page of this thread... I could swear that they changed the table though... I am sure I read it before I purchased my notebook (in Nov 2006) and it did not indicate that only 64-bit xpp could upgrade to 64-bit vista business....

I'm quite frustrated about this situation too.
Interestingly, I resubmitted my order online on Sunday (Mar25) and the 64-bit option was still available...
Perhaps they are trying to cover up their mistakes (by editing that webpage and changing the online order options).

Mine got cancelled a few day ago because I selected Vista Business 64bit.
I got response from Moduslink today (several days later).
Really silly excuse for "incompatibity" upgrade.
Sigh ... I have no choice but to reenter the redemption and reply with new order #.

Sorry for the long post. Just hoping this info is helpful.

    Dear customer,

Thank you for your upgrade order.

Is anybody else having trouble getting a copy of Vista 64-bit from Moduslink? I placed my order, waited a bunch of weeks and checked the site to find out what the deal was and discovered that even though my COA and POP were verified, my order had mysteriously been canceled. I called up and asked what the deal was and the guy on the phone spoke with his supervisor who said he'd send my case to the higher ups who would then contact me. I just received an E-mail saying,

... which is complete bull-feces, especially since I was offered it in the beginning. I'm gonna call them up again but I really do need the 64-bit version since my W3J is crashing with the most current drivers and the only good way to get a different type is to go the 64-bit route.

    Thoughs?

I have received the same e-mail as Wackyfighter.
Seems as though we are being 'coerced' into the 32-bit upgrade path.
However, I agree with Nrbelex. I recall the 64-bit Vista Business option being available to us (upgrading from 32-bit xpp).

Is there any valid reason why there would be "technical conflicts" arising from our upgrade path? Perhaps this would be true if we wished to truly upgrade over top our current XP installation... but what if we perform a clean install?

Ugh... I just found on this website the following info:

I have XP 32-bit installed and I'm having major BSOD issues. I'm hoping that it's just an uncooperative driver and that by installing Vista 64-bit, I'll have all new drivers and a solution to the issue... but who knows. If you're interested, you can read about my most recent attempts to solve the issue here.

    Ok, I have a question.

I submitted my order Feb 28 and I am currently at Order sent to Back office, and have been at this status for over 2 weeks. I sent in an email to Moduslink today asking if my order will be shipped within the 6 week deadline -mainly because it seems after reading this forum that sending them an email helps - and I just got a response saying my order has been shipped and should be received within 2 - 4 weeks (?!). I checked my order status and nothing has changed. Is this email just meant to placate me or do you think its actually shipped?

    this is so confusing

The question remains, though: are there technical problems if we perform a clean install rather than 'upgrade'?

Another question: do we have any easy (cheap) options for upgrading from 32-bit to 64-bit vista?

A clean install shouldn't be an issue so long as your processor can in fact support 64-bit. As to the second question, my understanding is that the basic structure of the 32-bit and 64-bit versions are too great to allow for an upgrade. If it can't be done from XP to Vista, I doubt it can be done from Vista to Vista. I'm probably gonna go ahead and buy Vista 64-bit business OEM and hope for the best. I'll keep everyone posted.

"Thank you for your support in the Upgrade Redemption Program.

We are sorry but we are unable to cancel your order at this stage of time. Your order has been approved and is ready for shipping. You should expect to receive it early to mid April.

Should you have any further enquiries, please contact us again."

So guess what? They actually have 64bit. but my status still hasn't change..

So your status is currently on "order is approved"? And has been for around a month? If so i'm in the exact same situation as you and a bit relieved to hear that. Did you try to apply for a new order (through the moduslink website) or send them an email requesting for a change? Because i sent them an email asking for a change to 32bit 2days ago but still haven't heard from them.

That's interesting. I resubmitted my order for 64bit on this past Sunday, and its current status is "COA validated". A couple days later, I received the e-mail that Wackyfighter posted in this thread (post #415). I wonder if they were referring to my new order, or my old order...

Does anybody know for sure whether we can perform a proper clean install using an upgrade disc? (thereby getting around any "technical conflicts" with a straight 32-bit xp to 64-bit vista upgrade)

Different stories gives a different viewpoint. Together they create a messy picture. Microsoft + Moduslink - a mess at a not so - express upgrade program.

Oh well anyway, i resubmitted my order for a 32bit this time. Sent in my reciept again to Moduslink Asia by snail mail...hope it won't get cancelled again.

I've resubmitted my order for 32bit this time, after getting quite a few replies about how I can only upgrade to 32bit and not 64bit (lame!). It's funny how they removed 64bit option though!

    Anyways Status: COA Validated

I applied for my upgrade in early february and there was no option for the 64bit version of windows available. I guess they mixed up a bunch of COA numbers allowing for the option of ordering vista 64bit.

Thanks for the info. I wonder if (and hope that) it actually works...
My main point for bringing up the question of whether we can perform a clean install is that if we can indeed do so, then wouldn't that side step any "technical conflicts"?
I am starting to regret getting a 64-bit CPU.... I wonder if it's really worth all this trouble...

Same here i just discovered it only yesterday that we can order only 32bit. Actually i was wishing that they had some sort of a COA verification system where they can verify our COA and see if it's 32bit or 64bit XP, then present us the relevant options. Since they could verify our 64bit order not being compatible to upgrade from 32bit.

Status on 2nd Day: COA Validated, mailed in the reciept yesterday.

    (im logging here too ;))

Grats, if my order hasn't changed by tomorrow they'll be getting my POP in an email again. I find that if you persist with multiple emails you get a reply quicker, I assume it works the same with POP :D

Just got this reply from them after enquiring about my order and why the status has been stuck on "order is approved" for so long.
I ordered 64-bit vista and currently have 32-bit XP Pro. So looks like my order will not be cancelled (fingers crossed). :D

Geez I feel like such an idiot for actually believing in Moduslink's word. I just checked my order status online and guess what it says

Order Status : Order is cancelled :mad2:

Just sent an email asking them what the hell is going on, but I'm not holding my breath. It seems easier to just go out to the shops and pay $175.

Mate your just going to have to resubmit it, they will NOT do anything else than say that. It wouldn't be hard for them to change it to 32bit but they are idiots and I guess they designed their system that they are using to manage their orders poorly.

I agree it seems easier to go out and buy it but seriously think of it like this.....it's not the end of the world if it comes now or later. It just means Vista will have less hiccups than if you got it earlier :p
