I am still glad I bought mine from you guys, I know it will arrive without any big issues. I can't wait for it to arrive or shipto bad I waited till 12th to order
-
What exactly is causing problems with these laptops?
I know GenTech is testing each unit, but I don't want to get this laptop if I am going to have problems with it. All these problems are now makin me lean towards the thinkpad t61p. If only I had more money. -
Some parts like memory and SOME of the CPUs have had issues with each other and the mobo from what I have heard but if you read back a few pages and it is still a good laptop
-
I got another, and it works perfectly
-
-
Mine only showed a grey screen
-
that was another guy.

I feel special
-
You(GenTechPC) said someone who ordered 9th might get it next week what about on the 12th?
-
I am glad to see that you (GenTech) changed the status from "in stock" to "2 week turn around"... if only that had been accurate for me!
aoguy1989: I ordered mine on the 13th (extremely early am) and Ken thought it would ship sometime the week of the 6th. -
cool sooner then I was expecting

I hope everybody understands all the delays are in no way the fault of gentech, but the poor state that asus allowed the c90 to be released in.
The idea they are taking the time to swap for multiple cpus/ram/hdds ect and test units for everybody is outstanding customer service, and definitly well worth the wait.
Those of us that got our units before this process are mostly all having to send them back for one reason or another. So while waiting is harsh, its probably worse to have it in your hands, install all your things and take a liking too it and then have to box it up and send it back (not to mention troublesome)
Good thing I just recently took a liking to the harry potter booksso I have something to do while my notebook is gone, but I am reading almost a full book a night so I am going to run out of things to do rather fast.
-
well vicious, if u havent read it yet, the 7th book is absolutely fantastic, amazing book. and i have not had to send mine back for any reason and i am quite glad then shipped mine without testing, but maybe thats because mine is working, and also i ordered barebones and could keep returning till i got the right config
-
After Harry Potter (and yeah, I second Kickace - last book was great, though all were a fun read), start on the Dresden files. They are an awesome series and the books are WAY better than the TV series (though they also started to get better) and you have 9 books to go through for those
(as an added bonus, the same author of the Dresden files -Jim Butcher- also has the Codex Alera series which are just as good). There, that should hold you for at least another couple of weeks and hopefully your lapper will be back by then!

@ Ken..
Does the C90s support 4GB of ram? and why do you not give the option for 4GB? -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
The C90S does not support 4g bsr5, it simply cant the 945g chipset wont allow it. 2+1gb for a 3gb config is the best way to go for max ram. However for most people I say 1+1 is a good way to go since its cheaper and alot more of the 1gb sodimms run with no issues on the C90S. The 2gb sodimms seem to be harder to find that work well.
There is a new bios enroute soon to fix a cpu issue, maybe they will have some ram fixes aswell. -
Hopefully Ken means we will receive them sometime next week and not that he will ship them sometime next week for those of us who ordered around July 9-11 or so. I wonder if he tests the units for people who ordered barebones too. I guess testing for someone with a barebone is a mystery shoot out because they could put any component in it.
-
A question,
Does GenTech test every laptop? I just canceled a C90S, but I still want to be their customer. I don't have two weeks to wait for. Maybe I can get another Asus.. -
I want to get a thinkpad, but without a coupon, I end up spending $2000. And also, if i did, I would have to wait longer to get a laptop.
-
-
BTW, I was searching Youtube for C90s reviews and you know what I found? LOLnice idea.

Soo, I know it's only been a couple of days, but has anyone heard any news as to how the new BIOS update is coming along or when it might be released? I talked to Ken a couple days ago at GenTech and he said that when they get that update it should speed up things big time, so I'm hoping the update comes soon.

I think it might also give the c90 battery life because he mentioned something about the cpu clocking itself down further when not needed. He said sometime next week.

Well when it comes out its going to be my first bios flash ever ... Hope its not hard to do it
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Nah its a breeze takes all of 2 min. When do you expect your c90 cancer?
-
Burned a cd, popped it in, and typed restore. Thats it to flash to bios
-

Good things come to those who wait. You will be rewarded greatly. You'll love the c90.
-
Asus has a nice bios flashing method. With the "newest" motherboards (well, my socket 754 one is included) you do it on the OS (Yes!!!) and it takes about 20 seconds. I don't know if it will be like this on the C90 though.
Is the C90 heavy & big compared to other 15'4'' laptops? -
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
C90S uses the traditional Boot disc BIOS flashing method.
-
-
It's not that bad

I can pick it up with 2 fingers
and I just sit around all day and dont work out anymore. I cant seem to figure out why .5lbs causes people to say something is heavy :/

Nothing compared to some books I have to lug around all around campus.
-
does anyone know what that means??? (Im not familiar with ups terms) -
Geared2play.com Company Representative
means a ups label has been made but the product not picked up.
-
tought so... guess i keep waiting...
-
I ordered mine on the 10th and I still have heard no word about shipping labels or anything. They are supposed to contact me today OR tomorrow, and I move to another state Saturday =(.
-
... Im guessing that at this point they are out of stock (please please let me be wrong) and we'll just have to wait for the next shipment of c90s (mid august I think)
Maybe they have some units lefts that have issues and I definitly dont want one of those... sigh... the g1s-a1 is looking very tempting right now even though it costs 300 more than the c90 I ordered... -
thanks -
They are waiting for the bios upgrade.

Well, I'm the FNG. Hi. This thread seems to be the closest thing to what I have related since I want a C90 and will most likely buy from GenTech. It's been a while since I've cracked open the case of a computer, I'm more of a car guy so please bear with me.
I'm looking to buy new to replace my 3 yr old emachines notebook. I don't remember the model or anything like that, but that thing has gotten slow beyond repair. 1.8 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 60 GB HD. 4 USB 2.0 ports, 1394 port, S-Video port, PCI port.. bla bla bla. You get the point.
So now here is my main question. I've noticed everyone putting the intel C2D 6600-6700 as max CPU's. Some websites offer the X6800 with the C90, some don't, and none offer the Conroe C2D E6850. I've been told by Brian over at GenTech that the E6850 hasn't been tested yet. I was thinking of buying a barebones C90 with the exception of GPU, WIFI, Bluetooth and going aftermarket with the Intel C2D E6850, G. Skill 4 GB RAM (yes I know it only supports up to 3.5 GB), 250 GB HD Western Digital Scorpio and Windows Vista Ultimate X64.
I'm seeing alot of people on the forums here saying the max out of this system overall is 2.93 GHz. I guess I'm asking is, the max E series I could go with is he E6700, correct? Oh, and does anyone know if the G. Skill RAM sticks are compatible with the C90? Thanks guys. -
I'd say get the E6600, the E6700 is $100 more, and is more expensive than the new E6850 (the 6700 has been discountinued, like the X6800 for the E6750 and the E6850).
With the 20% OCing mode, the E6600 will go to 2.86 (I think) while the E6700 would go to 3.19, but the C90 only support 2.93 to the 6700 is $100 more and you gain 70mhz, pretty much useless.
With the 8600M GT DDR2, even with the 6320 wouldn't be too bad.
The E6550, 6750 and 6850 aren't compatible yet because they have a 1333mhz FSB, and the C90 max is 1276 -
well about the ram many have trouble with it so better get 3Gb tested to work straigth form Gentech its better than getting the sticks then having to exchange them again and again till you find ones that play nice with the c90 (right now this laptop is very picky about ram)
-
guess i wont be flashig the bios by myself then... -
Hmm. I just looked at the VX2 thread and have become enraptured once again by the beuty of that thing. I want one, but it doesn't offer the power I want... minimum I'm looking for 2.4 GHz, 3-4 GB RAM, bluetooth, wifi a/b/g, 3-4 USB ports, and all the media ports I can get. It utterly HAS to have an S-video out though. Money isn't a problem for me, but I set my limit at $3k. I could easily top $5k with no worries, but a laptop just isn't worth much more than $3k to me.
Thanks for the help guys.
To anyone ordering a C90 from GenTechPC
