The asus a8js with a 7700 go runs much cooler than the dell e1505 with a x1400 to make a comarison.
Asus heat is nothing like dell asus machines all run cool and run 24/7 with no cooler.
expect the f8 to run very cool
-
-
My friend's MBP gets so hot near the top that I cannot keep my finger on it!! Also, if you zoom in on the placard by the laptop in the pictures, it says it has the 8600 GT, and I believe it also says with GDDR3, which is an advantage over the Zepto 6224 that I am looking at now.
-
bad news....my relative in Taiwan talked to an ASUS representative and was told the F8 would only be produced in limited quantities in July and mass produced by the end of August.
I want to get one of the limited quantity one...better quality perhaps? -
i acutally would avoid the 1st gen one if possible with the release dates so close to one another.
-
-
-
it didn't turn out that bad did it?
i'm pretty sure many C90 owners are pleased with their machines right? -
there are some ram compatibily problems, but thats about it really
there updating bios's to fix that too and any other problems have really been fixed or are due to the os, etc -
-
Definitely picking up one of these when it comes out. Hopefully it comes out by mid September- just in time for college. F8S + eee, sounds like a good combination to me
-
Actually, I think the combo of EEE+desktop makes more sense, personally speaking.
That doesn't mean that this isn't a seriously awesome notebook. Because it is. -
Finally.
14.1 screensize
Good video card
Decent battery
DVI output
About time!! Honestly, if that Zepto equivalent had DVI out, I'd be all over it fo sho. Lack of DVI is a deal breaker for me.
I'm just so sick of waiting for the perfect notebook. Perhaps this is the one. -
Wow they really will be a F8Sa and a F8Sv.
check the asus Download page they upload the manual for it. -

http://www.excaliberpc.com/ASUS_V1S-A1_Intel_Core_2_Duo_T7500/partinfo-id-580877.html
a little off topic but the V2S and the V1s are available for preorder! =] -
Awesome. + Rep for the links.
-
sweet....time to give the manual a read through
-
So both of the V series laptops have gone down in price $50, which is nice considering the boost in specs.
As with the A8, there is no extended battery for the F8 since the battery is again under the palm rest. Not good, but it opens up the back of the notebook for a lot of ports, which the F8 certainly makes good use of, with two USBs, VGA, S-Video, DVI, ethernet and modem ports. In total, this thing has 5 USB ports....Insane. No HDMI though, which is a bummer. I would have given up one of the USBs for the HDMI, but oh well. There is an IrDA port on the front, which is nice (not many notebooks have this...), IEEE1394 port, and a flash card reader. Asus appears to be jumping on the 'media remote in ExpressCard slot' bandwagon along with HP and Dell, with a remote of their own, although it looks essentially the same as the others...There are three speakers on the front of the notebook.
Thats about it for the info in the Owners manual...Nothing about video card, release dates, or price in there. -
I am seriously considering the V2S over the F8 now. The lightweight and the build quality really makes a bargain at that price.
Edit:
V2S and V1S have the same size and weight...?
Dimensions: 14.30" x 10.36" x 0.99-1.41"
Weight 5.6 lbs. -
-
Different specs, I guess that was a bad copy and paste.
V2:
13.4" (length) x 9.6" (width) x 1.1"-1.4" (height)
~5.0 LBS w/ US standard 6 cell and optical drive
V1:
14.3 x 10.3 x 0.9-1.3
~5.9 lbs /w 8 cell and travel drawer(OD = +0.4lbs) -
Is the V2 still slated for late July/mid August release?
-
It was never formally announced by ASUS, it's all assumptions based from other sources
-
-
Is the V2S weight lighter than M1330?
-
Probably not since the m1330 is 13.3" and the V2 is 14", plus the m1330 was designed to be light and thin, the V2's pretty much an allrounder.
-
Um, the M1330 is a full pound lighter than the V2.
Did the V2 have a modular bay in markets outside NA? I remember seeing Milestones first review of a prepro unit, and it had the modular bay, but the shipped models did not have it, so I was wondering if the ones in like Taiwan and stuff actually end up having it. They got the matte screen ones, if I remember. Lucky.... -
yeah I'm just thinking of changing my mind and go for the V2S. IMO it's looks better. that's just for me.
-
haha q8phantom, I'm seriously considering the V2S now over the F8Sv... only thing that holds me back now is the 8600GT T_T
-
This has gone back to the A8Jm vs W3J argument from last summer, except there the A8Jm's Go7600 was only just more powerful than the X1600 in the W3, whereas now the gap in power is much larger. Also, then the price difference then was $300 ($1499 vs. $1799), but now the price difference is likely going to be $150 ($1599 [its most likely for the F8] and $1749).
I also want to add that the F8S has the best hinge ever designed on any notebook: it retains the durable nature and aesthetic beauty of the W3's bamboo hinge, but doesn't take up all of the space for the ports, of which the F8 has plenty of. -
i have to agree with you on the hinge
but the build quality is what i'm scared of
plus i like the color scheme of the v2 better -
im not sure whether this has been posted, i've googling around and surprisingly found that Asus taiwan's web put on the User manual for F8 series
http://support.asus.com.tw/download/model_list.aspx?product=3&SLanguage=zh-cn
just browse into the F8 series then you are able to download the manual. -
Yup, it's here. It's on Page 27.
-
Yep.
:
-
Well, the V2s versus the F8 seems to be alot like the dilemma faced earlier in the W3J versus the A8Js. Better build quality versus more graphical power. I guess we'll just have to wait on some first look reviews of the F8 to see what the build quality is like.
-
But isn't the build quality of the V2 worse than the W3?
-
i don't think so...aren't the V series the top of the line asus models?
-
The Original V series was superior, but after the V6 retired, I guess ASUS re-used the V series naming scheme and issued that for their business class notebooks. The V and W series are very similiar though in terms of quality.
-
-
The original V series was the V6, then they used it for the V1 and V2, which are business class notebooks. They're still pretty well made but comparing it to the V6 just isn't possible.
-
Oi, I confused it with something else.
-
-
V series is business class notebook
w series is the multimedia.
I really think the difference is only the media buttons. But they are the expensive ones.
No new W series since the w2jp, this class is now the G series. -
The W3 series was business class.
Anyhow, so far there's been no mention of the ATI version of the F8s coming to North America, right? -
The w3 has media buttons.
So in business, you use your laptop to play your gorrilaz cd? -
-
-
i don't think the ATI version is "official" yet. but there has been talk about it previously in this thread.
-
Well, it's official that there are two versions, the F8sa and the F8sv. I guess they could both be nVdia, but it's unlikely.
Which ASUS model is this?
