Hahaha well let me know how it goes! Crossing fingers it's easy to do. Are you getting an intel ax210ngw ?

Also could you show me what do you have as monitor in device manager ? i attached a pic of what i have in my last post, it does not look right.

Yes same Generic PNP is correct. I got the ax210ngw, just installed and working great. piece of cake the back of the base plate snaps on so just easy pull it off. 2 screws at the very back and one in center are longer than the others so keep tabs on where those go.

Jarrod had way better temps on his s17, way below the 80s on both the cpu and the gpu. I guess yours is running hotter than it should. Are you on performance mode?

Is anyone going to try using a custom vbios for a higher Wattage draw for the GPU?

The current owners of S17 don't seem receptive enough. Hope someone can help you guys better. I'm waiting for stock of Zephyrus S17 in my country myself, I'll remember to upload everything you guys need as soon as I get my hands on it.

I am right there with you. The Helios 500 is my first choice and like you, waiting for them to release the 4k 3080 model. Unless it has bad execution (heat problems) or absurdly expensive I want that laptop. The S17 is my backup.

Sorry did not had time to share more about it, happy you guys got the VBIOS.
Regarding the S17 i have some good and bad. Mine is from GenTechPc with LM, IC diamond and new thermal pads. 11900h 3080 2tb sku

    Good:
    - Screen, no bad bleed, the fact to change profile for colors on Armory crates, Gsync working well, advanced optimus i did not try as im on dedicated GPU all the time.
    - Keyboard + volume wheel, both take time to get used to it but the actuation point/click feedback is there, volume wheel to adjust mic level and other stuff at the same is useful
    - Fingerprint sensor is fast, i was sad to lose windows hello from my blade pro but actually print sensor is better because you can turn it on and leave
    - Bios undervolt
    - Performance, played all my games in 1440p, MSFS2020 run on ultra at 40 fps, Warzone/BCO between 100-130 fps (12k gpu score timespy)
    - The soft material is really comfortable and give this grip feeling without being sticky

    Bad:
    - Location of the charging port, on the left side has a huge filter just before it, it looks so ugly and kill the clean aesthetic of the laptop
    - Impossible to charge my ipad at a decent rate from the USB-c
    - Amount of bloatware form ASUS
    - Coil whine is really bad, from IDLE to heavy load i feel like i have a dvd ejecting from it's loader
    - Right Fan is GPU i think, tend to spin fast and the fan are that good that it blows the hot air quiet far to your right hand where you have your mice, it gets really annoying on long session
    - the soft materials leave fingers marks/stains
    - Low cpu score on timespy time to time, i don't know why (below 10k cpu timespy)

    The really bad:
    - the left part next to the trackpad where your palm rest get so warm that it's annoying in long gaming session, defeat the purpose of raised keyboard to keep hands cold in a way, i end up using a small piece of fabrics to keep my hand colds
    - the wifi card is thrash (mediatek) had blue screen when loading steam games on wifi but by magic they disappeared when using ethernet. Ping spikes, wifi DC etc basically a waste of a wifi card. Tried on multiple routers and connections, only my laptop has this issues all my other one in the house are fine...
    - Performance ? i feel that my temps are scores are on the lower side, maybe it was a wrong choice to have opted for LM, IC diamond change, i've seen on youtube people pulling 12.5k timespy, and CPU score around 11000+, mine is way below average and i have no idea why.

    GenTechPC rant:
    - First ken is a good guy (support dude there) reply fast and is quiet helpful. However i ordered internationally and they use USPS to send the laptop. By precaution i left a note in my order to ask tosend it via DHL, USPS... at my cost, contacted them by email and they said it was doable. I wanted to avoid USPS at all cost. Anyway to my surprise they sent it via USPS, of course for 1 months the laptop was on transit, i almost lost hope at the end but it showed up there. Box damage. Thank god i ordered the option with 3 box for 50 usd. The worse part is that the package was valued at 400 USD. I would never use them again internationally or if i do i will order by phone or anything to make sure wont happen. If the package was lost i would have got 400 USD and not the 3.4k i spent i guess...

    Conclusion:
I would buy it again but i don't know if the X17 is better choice.. The S17 seems less powerful. My ideal laptop would have been the Legion 7 with intel version.
Please tell me how to add picture ill post timespy and temps.

    Vince,

I agree the power plug location is terrible but I deal with it as I love everything else about the system. I do not have coil whine and heat on the lower palm area is warm but nothing like a Razer gets imho. This is my stock time spy no OC other than just turbo mode profile. I have got higher with Manual but it varies run to run and turbo mode for me stays consistent. Sorry to hear about your issues.

Yeah i don't know why mine isn't pulling as much wattage as yours, like yours reach 80w mine stop at 72w make no sense as turbo profile is the same ?

It should be yes. I did notice that if I have turbo mode on and try to run afterburner with a low OC it kills my cpu score. So i am ok with my stock turbo scores, I deleted Afterburner.

Well i've tried all the profiles, no undervolt, undervolt via bios, then via xtu and i still can't break the 11k on CPU score, make no sense as the temps are fine...

XTU messed up my Asus profiles, I uninstalled it but still had parts left behind, I did a system restore and undervolt in bios .60 and that's it.

to be honest these scores are trash :/
comparing to way worser SCAR 17 with 5800H and 3080 16GB 130W (with HyperX 32GB RAM) the difference is very low. Even 10W TGP does no difference there.

PS: My GPU was overclocked maybe this explain why I score so much points. Except RAM & OC everything was stock (including vBIOS).

Yeah i guess something is going wrong somewhere, maybe 3DMark, no clue, performance in game is amazing tho.

Albi, i agree with you for the price if you look only performance get the 1700 usd amd full laptop best bang for bucks in a long time, but the thing is as Darkhan said, the whole build is quiet exceptional (at least for me coming from a blade 17.)

The thing is we are just benchmarking on stock everything unless the undervolting, pretty sure you can overclock the CPU and GPU and tickle 12.5+ ;)

Ye We are are running stock, on manual with xtu and afterburner you can for sure get great scores but I am not here to be in a dick swinging contest. I enjoy this system a lot as I am not tinkering all the time with settings and actually enjoy using it daily.

The most important is that with those settings the noise levels is slightly better than any other gaming laptop i had. No point gaining 5% perf for 10db louder.

But you are right its underwhelming !

Do you have the QHD 165Hz option with Gsync? Also, you've to make sure you disable the overclocking lock in the bios. And then fire up Throttlestop instead of XTU, as XTU eats some cpu cycles in background, plus Throttlestop has better control over the CPU power limits unlike XTU. (Asus has strangely set upto 65W max PL1 in Manual mode. XTU is unable to override it, but Throttlestop can. Go to FIVR, check 'disable and lock turbo power limits' and set PL1 higher). Hope you see a difference in your performance numbers. Let me know, I'll help.

I do have exactly this model but so does Darkhan that's why the difference is weird.

PL1 is 65w, initially 100w they changed it with an updates :(

No problem still, you can always use Throttlestop to raise the power limits and clock speeds to whatever you want, right? Disable the OC lock in BIOS first, and then open Throttlestop, Click on the fivr button, and check the "disable and lock turbo power limits" option. And then apply whatever power limit you wish to have. This worked on my previous Zephyrus S15 flawlessly, and S17 should be no different.

Is mediatek really that bad? There is zero availability of the intel wifi in my region, so I don't want to import it if Mediatek is at least somewhat manageable. Please let me know if there's any major issue with it.

Well i'm using it right now definitely work fine but sometimes i have huge ping spikes, other laptops in the house don't have this, and tried wired ethernet and never had any spikes so... Also i had this issue where downloading any games from steam would crash the pc but i guess it was more a steam/windows issue as in when i installed windows again this error disappeared. I'm using a mesh wifi (Deco M5) so that also could be why !

Availability here in France is not bad but i ended up ordering from aliexpress for 33 euros with shipping haha. I ordered in the past an AX200 from there and it worked perfectly fine.

To my knowledge the 2 owners of S17 on the forum (Darkhan and I) both planned to change the card.

I think it did to mine too, on silent profile, the fan kick in for 2seconds, then off, then kick in and then off again it's horrible and it's pulsating i ended up giving up using the silent profile. As soon as the CPU reach 60c it start then at 59c it stop then as soon as i move the mouse reach 60c and start..

Armoury Crate itself uses XTU Service. That is why it is recommended to use Throttlestop instead of Intel XTU to avoid any conflicts with it. I have used 2 Asus laptops of the recent times with 10th and 9th Gen Intel CPUs, and had zero problems with Throttlestop. XTU however, did not work properly, and always caused some problems each time I used it.

I've uninstalled it but yeah definitely messed up some of my profiles.

Otherwise i'll be honest if i'm in your position i would go for it, playing on this big screen with Gsync, at 100+ fps in 1440p fps on every game you throw at it, it has been my best experience so far with any "premium" laptop i've got. Connected my Quest 2 the other day and did some MSFS in VR worked perfectly!

Nice. Good to know that you're enjoying your time with the S17. Can you also comment on how good is the cooling system in Turbo/Manual Mode? It would be great if you can record a 10-15 min gameplay footage of a CPU intensive game like Warzone etc on the S17 with the temperature overlay and wattage stats showing on the side on YouTube. It will be really helpful :)

I could but my unit has been changed by GenTech PC with LM and IC diamond + Fuji pads so it won't be a fair comparation as my temps seems worse than original units.

Also my Timespy score following what you said. See the 6ghz pick on HWMonitor def something wrong here.

Same test just after with -60mw UV change only, the CPU scored dropped by 1.5k makes no sense!

Ye I agree, not sure whats up? I just ran mine, and mine is complete stock, just -70UV on turbo and swapped to Intel wifi card. I bought from Newegg and have not taken the heatsink off.

How is the intel wifi card treating you ?

I will do a full fresh windows reinstall at the end of the month.
I see that the difference of score is due because one time it boost at 80w sometimes at 70w BUT i don't know why it does this, as my profile is Manual + Full fan when doing the test :)

Honestly, its not bad but for me the Mediatek was about the same results. I only swapped cause I kept hearing Mediatek was crap but after I swapped I ran test and pretty much the same.

And full fan for me is just too much. Turbo limits to 80% and the noise level on that is perfect, and temps are fine for me. This system noise levels and temps at those noise levels is the best I have had and I buy a new system about every 4 months.
