Turbo for gaming, performance for Moba etc ! I used manual only for TimeSpy :)

I receive soon a fast USB-C Cable for my Quest 2, can't wait to fine tune all the settings and play more VR games from it.

Yes, yes. I have watched this video, and was pretty satisfied with the temps once manual with max fans is switched on (of course one needs to use headphones to tame that fan noise). But I saw Ultrabookreview saying that even on max fans, GPU reached 83.9C, which is a bit toasty for my liking (as throttle temp for the GPU is 86C). Red Gloves was able to get the GPU down to 76C, are you able to reproduce the same results on your S17 as shown in the video as well?

A drop of this magnitude surely makes no sense. But I guess there's one step you're missing. Have you unchecked BD PROCHOT in the main window of Throttlestop? Once you do, you should see an instant bump in performance.

Also, I recommend that you use MSI Afterburner, and enable the following stats in the overlay:

CPU Temp, CPU Power, CPU frequency, GPU Temp, GPU Power, GPU Usage, GPU frequency, FPS

The next time you run 3dmark, closely monitor CPU Clock speeds during the CPU Test section of 3dmark. Because I saw low clock speeds in the Min column of HwMonitor screenshot you showed (798MHz something), so I suspect some throttling was kicking in, so you can catch that with ease, provided you enable onscreen monitoring.

EDIT: Further, I highly recommend using Hwinfo instead of HwMonitor, as Hwinfo can also monitor VR VCC Temperature, whereas the latter can't.

I'm interested in knowing about this, myself. Will be very exciting if the S17 can cool 150W of GPU power. It is known that the VRMs are built to withstand 150W, the only thing that remains to be seen is the thermals.

Sorry boys i won't try it but it definitely have some headroom on temp wise.
However the system always boost to the highest clock possible.
For exemple even playing valorant i can reach 75+C.

    I still have few issues:
    - 11900h scoring 9.5k instead of 11k+ on 3DMark (even with the new armory crate 4.2.5.0 )
    - huge ping spike on any fps game, the intel wifi card is on the way

However this week i almost did not played and had to type a lot, the keyboard is damn good, my all time favorite!

    Saw a couple of things.

    1) The CPU wattage is only maxing out at 48W, whereas it can clearly use more. Make sure again, that you use Throttlestop for CPU tuning.

    2) In the second pic, both the IA and Ring Limit Reasons is marked 'yes'. Can you expand this over, and let me know under which entries it shows 'yes'? Most likely, BD PROCHOT is the culprit, which again can be easily handled if you use Throttlestop.

So just download Throttlestop, and do the following:

    1) Boot into your BIOS.

    2) Disable the Overclocking Lock under the Advanced Settings. This will unlock Throttlestop/XTU Support. Don't forget to save your BIOS settings before you exit.

    3) Now boot into Windows, and open Throttlestop.

    4) Uncheck 'BD PROCHOT' in the Throttlestop main window.

    5) Click on FIVR.

    6) Check 'Disable and Lock Turbo Power Limits'.

    7) Hit Apply, and then click on OK.

    8) Now click on the TPL button.

    9) Set Turbo Short Power max to 90W, and Long Power Max to 135W.

Try these steps in the order mentioned. It is dead certain that you'll see a big performance uplift once you complete these steps. Let me know if this improves your scores. As a matter of fact, my previous Zephyrus S15 (mentioned in my sig) had the same problem. It was underperforming despite the powerful hardware inside, but as soon as I followed the aforementioned steps, I got an instant performance boost.

Can anyone here dump the entire 16MB BIOS Image from your laptop's BIOS Chip? I'll pay you for a working image!
It must be the 165Hz 1440p version of the laptop. The BIOS Chip is located underneath the WiFi Card.

My 165Hz GX703HS had a BIOS Update fail, leaving the machine unbootable. It boots only to BIOS recovery and I've tried both EZ Flash downloads Asus has available for download for this model (versions 308 and 307) by placing a BIOS file on a FAT32 flash drive as instructed, but the update fails at the same point, roughly 75%, as the original attempt did, in both cases. I do have an SPI Programmer and I've been able to dump the entire 16MB BIOS image from the chip, but only after the failure occurred. Unfortunately the BIOS Update downloads cannot be flashed directly to the chip as they aren't intact images, but more like instructions on which areas to update with what code. If I had an intact image from a working machine, I should be able to recover my machine.

If anyone can provide a working dump from a 165Hz 1440p machine, I'll happily PayPal you a $50 thank you for saving me from having to return my machine to Asus!
Alternatively if you know how to produce a flashable intact image from a combination of my chip dump and a BIOS Update download, I'll pay for that as well!
I can provide all relevant files if needed.

@vincent9669 Try selecting turbo mode then reboot and rerun 3dmark. Whenever I swap profiles and then go back to turbo without reboot,I suffer the same low cpu score.

I've sent the ticket yesterday night, i'm still waiting.
Yes i'm on the latest drivers, armory crate and bios 308.
Anyway the laptop is still working nicely, i would not even change it for anything on the market right now. :)

Perhaps could be your PSU? I bought an extra off Amazon has the Asus logo and was suppose to be 280w, but with it plugged in no matter what I tried I got same cpu score as you. I swapped back to original factory and was back to over 11k.

Seems highly unlikely but just thought I would ask.

Installed windows 11 -> made it worse
Wiped clean the SSD + fresh install of windows 10 -> made it worse
Asus support sent me link to chat with them, the laddy advised a factory reset, then to send it for repair.

AIDA 64 CPU only test -> push 90w then settle at 65w
AIDA64 CPU + GPU -> cpu push 35w only! i guess that's our issue lol. The GPU does push 140w tho!

Here is a pic of the PSU i got!

Doesn't it hit high wattage even if you force the power limits through Throttlestop?

Perhaps just remove crate and use Aura creator for your RGB? I really don't swap my modes around, I stay on turbo and dedicated GPU.

@Darkhan could post all the services from armory crates and their version you have, here ?

    You open armory crate
click on the setting wheel at the bottom left
click top right on "about" top right
    click on check service version
    and copy to click board

    Thanks!

Hopping it will improve performance for you!
I've managed to solve my RGB issue with a clean install + using hotfix on the Asus driver page.

However i still have the issue of low CPU perf.
I've tried a test where i did CPU TimeSpy alone as a custom run and i got 11k!!!! but as soon as GPU is loaded it went to 9k so there is definetly and issue with power, i guess it's either bad VRM or bad power brick, could you tell me how much you got on TimeSpy with your defective power supply ?

You updated to bios 310 without any issue?
    You didn't brick your system?
Did the screen turn off at all during the upgrade process? Around 75%
What is the model of your s17?

Mine Bricked. Keeps looping back over and over to ez flash. Have a ticket and glad I paid for the extra warranty plus accidental.

Even unplugged battery and held power and still boots to same ezflash screen, no other option. I would advice to avoid it.

I did it from ez flash with bios file on usb. It went all the way and then black screen, I left it for over 2hrs nothing. Rebooted and its stuck in a reboot to ezflash screen. Only 2 options hit ok to flash or no. If you hit no it just reboots to same screen if you hit yes it goes back to update then black screen and wont go anywhere else? I have plenty of extra systems to use so no big deal for me but I am afraid asus may be low on motherboards to swap?

Tried that and same thing, after disconnect the battery for 30min holding the power button for like 30 seconds and retrying and same thing I laughed and boxed it up. Got the new Razer 17 4k coming Friday, curious to see how it does but I am sure the keyboard will kill it for me?
Anyway, this is my first bricked system out of dozens so I guess It was my turn lol.

Is there a 150W RTX 3080 VBIOS out yet? I heard that ASUS was evaluating to release one.

I'm considering to exchange my Alienware x17 4k@120hz with the ASUS s17 because of a "real" MUX switch and the QHD G-Sync display. What are your thoughts between the two devices?

I really loved the Zephyrus s17 in the past.

Look we are only 2 owners as of now and we both love it however they are some issues:
Darkhan S17 got bricked when updating bios
Mine has power throttling issue when CPU and GPU loaded

We both are going to RMA our units, otherwise it's been my favorite laptop since a long time, just for the keyboard i cant go back to any other one.

Okay I wonder how it performs against the x17.

What about Fan noise? Some reviewers said it would be very unregular (on/off). What do you think about the Fans and noise?
