Wait wait, you can't put a quad core in a dual core slot can you? The p7350 is dual core, so doesn't it have a different cpu slot?

Correct me if i am wrong but the motherboard is a socket P so it can support quad processor.. I know this board can take the upgrade just like the g50vt but just don't know what quad processor it can take.. I know someone here posted something about the G50vt - x5 upgraded to a quad core.. This is what i read about the g51 when i googled it.. From asus they can come in many flavors.. 2GHz or 2.26GHz Core 2 Quad processor or a standard 2GHz or 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo processor.

If the reseller version of the G51/G60 has a 1080p screen and either a P8600 or Q9000 for under $1400, I may just have to get one of these... On the other hand, I'd really like to get my hands on a notebook with a P8600 (or better) or Core i7 (mobile) and a GTS 250M (or 260M) GDDR5...

alright so the sound is alright just like the g50vt-x5.. I just use the Logitech G35.. btw if you haven't picked up one of these then you should if you are looking into one of the best gaming headset.. You will barely get 2 hrs of usage with this 6 cell battery and if you are doing gaming then forget it, leave it plugged in.. dont understand why they did not put the 9 cell.. hmm

Sunny just tell best buy you will return it if you don't get the windows 7 upgrade.

No reason that you shouldn't get it.

    Thanks for all the info.

The reason these probably aren't readibly available yet is Best Buy is waiting for the Windows 7 Upgrade date before they start putting these on display.

I'm a complete noob when it comes to upgrading comp hardware (especially laptops). Is it significantly more expensive to upgrade a processor on a laptop than on a desktop? I remember a couple years back I was looking into upgrading my 6800 go vid card on my Inspiron 9300 to a 7800go gtx and the total for everything was coming to something like $400 which seemed pretty ridiculous to me. Just wondering if prices on laptop processors are a little more reasonable.

I would say is about the same but it entirely depends on what processor you choose to upgrade with.. It is a bit of a challenge also for laptops espically but with this system you can get access to the stuff easily.. Everything is under the bottom lid which is held in by a few screws..

Processors are a little cheaper now nicvic. You should be able to get a retail P8600 around $200 bucks. I've seen used P8400's on the for sale section here around $120.

My apologies for taking your pic sunny, but since this is quite likely one of the first if not THE first pic out on the web... I think it's important enough to show off.

Enlarged the Win 7 coupon and sharpened it up so it's readable. Some very interesting facts there.

    http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/3352/win7upgrade.gif

Sadly the G51 is outside my price range, and the lack of XP virtualization support kills it for me.

sunnyc90, I have one question regarding keyboard lag and touch pad placement. Feel free to answer at your leisure. Open notepad or word and type as quickly as you can. Do you see the lag that existed on the G50? Thanks..

You're right. It IS really slow. You need around 2.4 GHz recommended these days. 2.0 Ghz is REALLY disappointing...

Does anyone know what processors you can upgrade it with? What about voiding warranty?

I read sunny mentioned Socket Ps, so any one with that can replace it by just swapping?

And of course, resolution is disappointing too :(.

That's one question i'll find out and test it out with Crysis.. lol..

JGZinv - no worries about taking the pic..
DE8PNC - i'll test out the keyboard for ya once windows update finishes.. as far as the touch pad goes i like it more than the one that came with the g50vt..

Thanks for the replies. I'm hoping this processor is good enough for me right now (probably will need some overclocking) but I like the option to upgrade to something better in maybe a year or 2 without having to go out for another laptop. Those prices sound reasonable.

Looking forward to seeing those Crysis benchmarks sunnyc90. Here's hoping the beasting video card in this won't be hampered too much with the slow processor.

Also, can you see if it has the other keyboard problem (I think it was if you press W+D+Space [back-right jump in games] it wouldn't register correctly or something, someone please refresh me if I'm mistaken) and if there is any static in the headphone jack (with and without USB plugged in)? Thanks!

Also, you won't be able to upgrade to Windows 7 unless you receipt shows that your purchase date was within the range on the brochure (June 26 to January 31), so unless you can get a new receipt printed out for you between those dates, you're going to need to take it back and exchange it for itself come the 26th.

DE8PNC - There is really no lag on the keyboard.

I think the 3dmark06 and crysis benchmarks will answer most of the performance-related questions hehe

You are defiantly going to void the warranty when you replace the processor.. replacing it is not that bad but its not easy either.. don't know which processor you can upgrade to but when i find out then i'll let you know..

Might be worth it to also see if you can pop the keyboard up and out, see if you can take a pic of the connector cable and model number of the board.

It might be possible for G50 owners to swap out with the new kb design, even if a little modding is needed.

I am liking this unit more and more.. There are zero keyboard issues with movement and pressing the space bar at the same time.. Also there is a HUGE difference in graphic performance.. This card can handle Very High Mode in crysis and visually looks like it putting out 25 - 30 fps. The 9800 GS barely held up to this.. I will of course be doing some more test so stay tuned..

How do you feel about the resolution... and 16:9 vs 16:10?

If you swap in a new processor, aside from just matching sockets, I read you have to do other stuff like BIOS changes? Is this true? Would that be it? Seems simple I guess... hard part is opening it up?
