probably gonna get flamed for this,
but the pins and 3 screws match from the 9800gs and 260m. also since it's the same case, the heat pipe assembly fit's overtop the gpu (missing the copper over the mem chips, but it shouldn't be too hard to mod).
same centrino2 platform, same kind of battery (voltage-wise).
-
i assume the same price point will be true....1300-1700
-
man if the top of the line model is 1700 for the g51 with q9000, 4 gb, 1 TB, and 1920x1080 res... that's still really expensive. It would be even more expensive if that was the U.S. price you were talking about XD
-
i'm pretty sure the units with blueray were 1700+ like 1855.

I have official prices for best buys models!
G51 P7350 260mGTX! 4GB DDR2 1333 x 768 LED $999!! 320GB hard Drive 7200rpm
G71 P8700 260mGTX 6GB DDR2 1440 x 900 LED $1,149!! it was either a 320 or 500GB hard drive
I work at best buy and i saw them with my own two eyes! -
Which BB do you work at BTW? And 6 GB Ram sounds intense... -
in south Texas. for the first time we get a 17in Asus
-
Who said it wouldn't be $999 to me again? I hope those words tasted good
. I get no credit for the first leaked price ;-) At least I was right from the beginning to all those nay sayers. Like HR block's slogan... I have people, do you have people?
-
lol and the G51 is White!
-
-
Not surprised they're bringing in 2 new laptops. Last time I was at Best Buy their laptop display area had 2 empty spots where the X5 and Gateway used to be. At the time I thought the G51 wasn't going to be available at BB until mid-late July so I was wondering why they didn't put some other laptops there. But I guess they're expecting inventory of these G51 and G71 soon and just decided to leave them empty until they come in. At least that's what I'm hoping.

Hmm, I'm still going to go for the smaller 15 inch though, since I need one for college.
Waiting on some fps tests!!! -
G71? I guess that's a 17-inch laptop?
Does the G71 look same the G51? (LED on the outside?)
Well, I don't care. I am going for G71 (if it has the backlit keyboard lol) -
Check here. I find the FPS's to be fairly consistent.
As stated earlier, there was a 2.0 GHz tested at very high I think for Crysis and was able to get 20-30 fps with dips. I'm guessing the CPU was the downside here since recommended CPU is 2.2 Ghz, although I think a lot of current games state 2.4 as recommended.
So the second model listed has the P8700. I bet that can get Crysis playing on very high 30+ FPS easily. -
ill double check tomorrow they should both have the backlit keyboard
yes the G71 is a 17in screen -
Hmm, that just made it a tougher choice. For me, if the G71 was 1920x1200 it would be the clear winner! Now I have to decide whether to go for the cooler and smaller G51 or the bulkier but faster G71.
-
i would also check new egg to see what models they get. i have no idea when they will get them but if you can wait, i would
-
I'm waiting for Newegg as well. After my budget for a laptop dropped (was hoping for an M17x), I had started seriously looking at the G50vt-X6 (2.53 GHz, single 320GB HDD, and DVD-RW), with the intention of adding an SSD as the second drive. Same specs on a G51 would be a very nice computer.
-
Thank Sunny for all the specs, test, pics and answering our many questions!!!
+1 rep
Hopefully the online retailers are getting the hi-res screens within the next couple weeks...I'm dying to get one since it'll fill my every need (for the next few years at least)!!!
-
How's the size/weight of this thing? It's almost the same chassis as the g50vt, right?
-
-
-
Hm I like the smaller 15" one but the resolution can't be helped despite a processor upgrade so looks like I'm getting the G71.
I also hope it's 64-bit. -
they are both 64 bit!

Hopefully, Newegg's models will be available on or shortly after June 26th.
-
Hm... that sounds interesting, if a g51 will come out on Newegg.com then im willing to bet that after about 2 weeks it would also arrive on Newegg.ca...
Very interesting...
I wonder what the price difference will be compared to when my retailer gets it though. -
im going for the p8700 one...faster and more ram... nice
-
Interesting.. Did not see the G71 or maybe i might have missed it.. Well personally i like the 15.6" size but then again I like the specs of the G71.. Any way I prolly wont get the chance to finish up the rest of the test tonite but tomorrow is another day.. Thanks for all your comments and questions.. If you all have anymore then plz feel free to ask.. I'll answer them as soon as possible..
-
j/k i doubt they would do that since even the sager 8662 are moving to the p8700's because they are at the same price point...
In the same sense i would probably want to get one thats similarly speced too yours brunoroc..
P8700
1920x1080
320+ GB
anything else is not really necessary, no blu-ray needed. ;O -
I hope we get information on higher end models of the G51 soon. I refuse to get anything more than 15.4", so the G71 isn't an option ;-)
Basically I'd just like to see a higher-power CPU (although I only want a dual core tbh) and a high-res version and I'll be content for good.
Any guesses on what a full HD model might cost? $1500? -
yeah man me too.... blu-ray just get stuff expensive... i dont mind another hdd since im going to upgrade it later
i just want a better CPU an better resolution hopefully 1680x1050.... -
Here are some details on the G71 model.. dont know what best buy is bringing in for $1150 but at $2000 you can get this : http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-g71gxa1-order-p-2591.html
-
AWESOME u can put a QX9300 on that !!!!!!!!!!!!
maybe u can put that too on the g51 !!!!!!!!!!!!
its a good price but if had that much money i would not get it... -
But I'd also like another G51 model with higher res and CPU so I wouldn't have to upgrade myself. -
-
or u can get the sager np5797 for 1800 bucks
-
-
When is this expected to hit Best Buy?
-
When it gets put on Newegg, I would not be surprised if it cost more money because of the better warranty--
The only reason I am holding off on buying it the day it goes on sale at Best Buy is because of the short one year warrant vs. Asus' regular 2 year Global warranty with 1 year accidential...I will probably wait to see what happens to the price once other stores start selling it online...However, I doubt the price will be as appealing...
I will be traveling quite a bit overseas and I will need a global warranty
Good luck everyone getting one
Adam -
yeah i need global warranty too....
but im leaving july 13 so i need to get it before that -
im sure newegg will have it before then.
-
Ugh. . . . I need a job, time is running out. . . . This sounds more appealing than the x6!(Because it is.)
-
-
-
How much do you think the price will increase when it goes on newegg?
-
well since it will feature better specs then the BB version then at least $1300
the new asus g51
