I think we should wait for the P9700 CPU. It has 25W TDP and 2.8GHz clock + 6MB Cache. If the OC feature will work, it would be able to rise the clock to 3.2GHz.
The P9700 would give a decent preformance boost and unleash the power of the 260m GTX.
It is. Same as GTA4. One of the few games yet which work significantly beter on 4 cores.

I just wish the G71 was complete black instead the inside having red around the keyboard. -
yeah. some wierd choices on the G51 seem to be popping out..
lowering the CPU and taking out the OLED, but then putting it back in? make up your minds Asus!
Still waiting to hear how the built in OC modes are (turbo & turbo extreme i believe they're being called..
-
So is the one coming out in BB a different model of G71 than the XoticPC?

Yeah, thanks
itll prolly be tonight tho cuz he said he's at work..
lol..
we're all so excited and clingy. -
For only 150$ more for this compared to the G51 I'm very torn as to which one to get. Aesthetically i like the G51 better but G71 is definitely better equipped. -
999$ that funny price, or not considering the processor.... i would be happy if there will be a higher model of g51. not sure about the g71 is it huge?
-
-
I couldn't find all the posts of Sunny here, I probably missed something...is he having a G51?
-
i prefer 17 inches than 15.....
-
-
I still wish they could have put in a little better processor (maybe 2.4 Ghz) but $1k is my max budget for a comp and I doubt I'll be able to do better than this for a while in that budget. -
its interesting how Asus skipped 20 numbers in their naming for the laptops.
From G50->G51->G71 -
I think the first digit in 50 and 70 represents 15 and 17 inch models, respectively.
-
Couldn't help it, you pretty much set yourself up there, man. -
-
Yeah well naming schemes will be naming schemes lol
I mean, they skipped a few from the G2s to the G50s >.>
And the U series has no digits representing the screen size >.> -
I think the next one should be called the GXVZ80-x1

just to fill you all in.. best buy is getting three different g71 models and a u81 model which is a 14.1" gaming laptop.. will fill you all in with more once i get home. will also have cpuz test later tonite.

14 inch gaming? Sounds like the Asus N81vp again hahaha
I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up, that machine was selling on newegg. -
this for those who work or have access to the machines at best buy that can check stock status.. I am over here in Washington state on west coast, if any of you can do me the chance to see what Washington best buy store may have these in stock in the system, I would greatly appreciate it, I will go out and buy one ASAP as well and give you guys all the info you need and screenshots, I have enough money to purchase one asap! thanks, i just ordered me a refurbed gateway p7805 notebook, but this asus g51 laptop looks like it will blow it out of the water due to portability and the nvidia 260 vid card... and due to asus reputation with support and warranty... thanks!
-
Haha it would be amazing (read: impossible) if the U81 was equipped with a gtx 280m. OHWELL.
-
-
welp nevermind in lookin for me I found two in yakima, wa put hold on one!
-
I just got back from my local computer store, Central Computer, in San Francisco. They are having Asus demo day today, and had an Asus rep in. He said that the other, non- Best Buy models will be equipped and priced pretty much the same as the G50s, and that they would be on sale in a few weeks.

Are you sure it isn´t U80, because i can´t find info related an U81.

3d Vantage is a much better tool if you only want to measure graphics power but less people use that for some odd reason.
Anyhow, the GTX260M is only like 10% better than the 9800M GTX which wasn't that far ahead from the GTS so I wouldn't expect something like double the performance or anything.
You were running at the same resolution btw? -
What turns my head away from the G51 is the keyboard layout. The keys are too small and all packed together. I tried my friend's MSI laptop which has the same keyboard and i found it was too difficult to press individual keys near the arrow keys.
I think i'll stick with the G50VT. -

How does the g51 compare with the SAger 2098 ( https://secure.pctorque.com/system-configuration.aspx?SystemsID=55) ?
i am looking for someone to tell me how they stack up overall, because i need a computer that is about $1,000 for school, and i would rather have speed & memory over graphics, although i don't mind sacrificing some speed for greatly improved graphics -
Mind the resolution when benchmarking the GPU, it makes a big difference

MSI and G51 keyboards are NOT the same.
The MSI keyboard everyone complains about has smaller right hand ring and pinkie keys. You can clearly see the G51's alphabet keys are uniform in size, while only the number pad and arrow keys appear slightly reduced.

Right shift is smaller too since the top arrow overlaps where it would normally be.
Keyboard looks fine to me. Btw is it fully backlit(as in you can see the key symbols in light) or is it only partially(as in the spacing between the keys). -

Pic's sonny posted some pages back show that it is fully back lit, which is may be another difference between the two models.
Edit: Found the pics. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=384894&page=17 -
This is silly, but I do OpenGL work for a living: Sunny, can you post what GL extensions this thing supports with the latest drivers?
-
Dude. Nice. Epic win right there.
I don't have a Best Buy in my town, so I'll probably go with Newegg, too.
This 2 year standard/1 year accidental deal: is this for US customers? Or do I need to be like in Taiwan or something for this warranty setup?

As I understand it, except for Best Buy models, its for all U.S. customers.
-
All Asus computers are supposed to have standard 2 year warranties IIRC. Idk about retail stores(since they can make more money selling you their warranty), but I know all the resellers I talked to said all their Asus computers come with built-in 2 year warranty.

Ok here goes.. There will be three G71 series that best buy will carry...
Model G71GX-RBBD09 will have the C2Q Q9000 with 6GB DDR2 Memory and 500GB HDD for $1399.99
Model G71GX-RX05 will have the C2D P8700 with 6GB DDR2 Memory and 500GB HDD for $1149.99
Model G71V-X2 will have the C2D P8400 with 4GB DDR3 memory and 320GB HDD for $1499.99..
I do not know what graphic cards will come in these models nor know the screen resolution but if anything the top two will prolly have the GTX260 but the third model may have the better graphic processor and maybe even a better screen resolution than the rest.
Now for the 14.1" model U81-RX05 will have the C2D T6500 with 4GB DDR2 memory and 320GB HDD... As far as the graphic card goes it might come with either the old 9300 as the old model or maybe even the 9800.. who knows.. This model is priced at $649.99
Unfortunatly there will be no other G51 series that best buy is bringing in at this time but maybe in the future..
Starfox - How do i check the GL extensions? -
Odd the 3rd one actually seems the weakest lol
-
It is but it may have a better resolution screen with a better graphic card which is prolly why its priced so high.. dont think that DDR3 would bring it up that much alone..
-
Will we see all these laptops come out byt he end of next week?
do you think the U81 will have a 9800?
the new asus g51
