sunny does any of the models have blue ray?
-
Cant guarantee you but there may be a good chance.. The current one comes with the 9300 with 256mb card..
Tested the different modes that asus has.
Entertainment mode, Quite Mode, and Battery Saving Mode sets the CPU at 1.6ghz while the High Performance mode sets the CPU to 2.00ghz.. So looks like I may have to do some over clocking..
dino11216 - As far as i know none of them has blu-ray but there might be a good chance on the G71V-X2. -
@ sunny
Is there a Light around the Touchpad?
Could you make a photo? -

Personally, the Q9000 has very little appeal and its baffling how the X5 CPU is superior to the $1500.00 machine. -

Totally off the wall question. I have a g50vt-x6 and a g51 I just received from bestbuy. For giggles I wanted to see if the mxm cards would be interchangable, and size and placement wise they are. Reason to change them over was the x6 has a better processor, and more important a better screen.
Would this be a horrendously stupid idea?
I can get pictures of both cards if needbe. -

3D Mark isn't reporting an overclock. Have you tried it or is 3D Mark not detecting it? With it on, you should be running between 2.3 or 2.4 Ghz.
With updated drivers and overclock mode on (provided its not already) you'll break 9k easy. -

I guess since newer games are getting quad cores to be optimized like Crysis maybe it's better to go with that? -
Ok so here are the results with over clocking.. Same Graphic Driver but now overclocked to 2.25ghz.. CPU is defiantly holding this beast back.. Some reason the Set FSB is only overclocking one core and not the other? dont know why? Maybe the wrong pll/core clock?

9554!!! Now you're cooking.
About the overclock, I've never owned an Asus, but from I read, I seem to think that there are two preset overclock modes. Perhaps you've only tapped the first of the two? -
-
Oh, that G71 (option 3) looks like it might be my notebook of the future. I'm going to bet on sunny being right about that one.
-
still not sure if i should get the 71 for college.. -

Again, congrats on the score (both the G51 and 9555) sonny. -
-
SteelersWorship - Yea i was thinking the same but gonna update my graphic driver and need to figure out why setfsb is only overclocking the second core but not the first..
zeedee11 - You wont see them until after the 26th of june or else the free upgrade brochure that you get with the laptop will be worthless.. -
Wow, happy I found this thread, been looking for a new laptop and this looks like it will fit the bill perfectly. Thanks for the pics and stuff sunnyc90

Went to Nvidia to get new graphic drivers but its not installing.. odd.. -

Hey Sunny you listed the 3 G71 configurations, but do you know the two G51s?
-
I've always loved 17" laptops (so long as they have 1920x1200 screens). If that third G71 has it I think I'll be able to forgive the red trim.
The look of the G51 is so much nicer in my opinion though! -
Love the white/black layout... I think Asus payed attention to reviews this time.

ChinNoobonic - This laptop does not come with Direct Console like how the G50Vt did which is why i was using setfsb.. When overclocked @ 2.25ghz the temp does not go above 50C.. Its hovering right around 48C.
SteelersWorship - Thanks for the tip.. might give that a try.. -
Turns out i cant update the driver since it was released before this laptop will get released.. I guess i just have to wait for an update..
-
sucks, im sure after you get the fsb business straight and the new vid drivers that you'll be spring at 10k ;D
-
Any Idea what color the G71 series will be?
Seen the red trimmed model on XoticPC but was starting at $2000..
Will the BB version have the red trim also? It looks pretty nice with the black lid.
But more than likely get the G51 and upgrade the CPU myself.
I will have to admit, I'm a little pissed it lost the direct console OC feature -
10k would be pretty damn good for a $1k laptop. Granted it takes some overclocking to get there but still quite nice if the new drivers can push it that high.
So is it safe to say most Best Buys will have these ready to sell in the next 1-2 weeks? I see that Windows 7 upgrade card that comes with this is effective from June 26 so I'm guessing they expect these to be in stock at some places by then? Hopefully the Best Buy website gets updated with some info before then too. -

@sunnyc: try one of the newer ones from lv2g (190.15 seems to be good for me). http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=24289
it won't install because it doesn't have the 260M listed, so start -> run -> devmgmt.msc, display adapters, right click on the 260m, details, hardware id's. remember the part with DEV_####.
dl the modded inf, open it in notepad. at the top, find the line {%NVIDIA_DEV.0608.01% = Section103, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0608}. change the 0608 in the line i pasted to the 4 numbers you found above. (without the {}'s)
near the bottom, find the line {NVIDIA_DEV.0608.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTX"}. again, change the 0608 to the four numbers and change the 9800M GTX to GTX 260M.
save it, and it should install. -
Works for me every time. -
the have disk method never installed nvidia's contol panel for me (tried on both xp pro 64 and win7 7100 x64). ofc, it could just be my luck.
-
Really!
Can you access the Nvidia control panel from the Vista control panel? -
no icon in the control panel, nothing with nvcplui. again, maybe it's just my luck D: installing it normally works.

Hey sunny do me a favor and download hwmonitor ver 1.14 64bit edition NON PRO and run it after you boot system from cold start(after its been off for awhile) and minimize the monitor and then run 3dmark06 and take a screenshot of temps, then if u can find 3dmark03 run that and check yer temps.. I just picked up the g51 at bestbuy in yakima, wa they had only two.. and the system booted up fine after all the intial vista crap and built in software junk, i installed 3dmark06 and ran it which first time ran it said couldnt find d3d driver then i tried again and it ran through complete stock benchmark fine.. then i ran 3dmark03 and it ran through that fine the only thing is the temperatures are crazy on this thing!! at idle the cpu is around 49-56c as youll see in screenshots, and at load almost 70c and when system starts the gpu is idleing at 62c and gets up to 90c after just running benchmarks.. thats way to hott for a mobile gpu.. one thing asus did for some reason or maybe its the way old drivers is that it doesnt downclock in vista aero desktop mode like other mobile nvidia gpus do.. its running at full clocks all the time.. anyways check out the screenshots, post your temps and lets compare also it has bios 202 for system.. even with the gpu getting up to 90C it didnt crash, blue screen or lock up.. maybe temp readings are wrong but boy the fan sure does spin up and snd like a jet engine when the system is hot. also i had system sitting on thick wood table..
as of now asus has no drivers or bios updates or anything for notebook.. hmm... should i return since its so dam hot? i wouldnt even imagine overclocking the thing with cooking temps.. also the 260M GTS in the G51 all the default clocks are lower than the stock reference clocks for 260M GTS..
anyhow..

RainMotorsports Formerly ClutchX2
Well in comparison to the G50 why would it crash at 90C. In fact it shouldn't crash at 110C just down clock. On the G50 over 75C the fan starts to spin up usually gets no higher then 4200 rpm, but I have seen 4600 under forced conditions.

Is led backlit display on the Asus the same as the feature Ultrabright on Gateway notebooks?
-
Whoa they lowered the clocks? It's not by much, but still...
