Lame...I wonder how long it is going to take to place this laptop online?
I would love to have the g71.
-
I decided to open my G71. After getting all of the junk cleaned off if it, I loaded Furmark. I set it to 1440x900 stability test and started it up and walked away. A few minutes later when I came back to it, the test had turned into a slidehow. The display set the max temp was 83c.
Doesn't seem too hot, but something made it throtle down. I think this puppy is going back. If I have one issue like this, I'm not spending $1200 on a laptop that "may" have a problem. -
Being that the laptops qualify for Windows 7 Upgrade starting today, I think we might see at least some review today... if not, the laptops official go on sale starting on Sunday (so they can be part of next week's weekly ad) and we should see more information on Sunday or Monday.
-
pasoifjpoweij can't wait!!!!
Definitely have to see what they say about the heat, if its normal or if anything can be done with it. -
If there any chance that one of the built-in profiles would be causing that? Try doing the Xtreme Burning Mode Stability Test with 4xMSAA, Post-Processing, and Windows 640x480 and see what happens. Also, it might be a good idea to stay there and watch what happens to get an idea of what's going on. Anyhow, thanks for the information you've provided so far.
One more thing, can you tell me what the Windows Experience Index says for the laptop and what the hard drive's manufacturer and model number is (this can be gotten from the Device Manager). -
I thought there was going to be a lot of hype on these two machines today...I guess maybe on Sunday they might be a bigger deal...
-
Here ya go.

Ehhh...this looks incredible. But seeing as how my G2S has survived, and is still surviving, I'll get myself through my freshman year in college without too much distraction, thank you.
Then when 2010 comes...Oh boy. A G52 or something, with an Nvidia GTX3xx card and Arrandale and...mmmmm. -
When is the Asus G51/G71 coming out in the UK?
-
Thanks. It looks like the hard drive is a Seagate Momentus 5400.6 500GB which is apparently a little bit slower than a Western Digiral Scorpio Blue 500GB, but I wonder by how much. How fast did the hard drive feel to you (load times, file copy times, etc.)? If you get a chance, could you try to run 3DMark06 on it?
I'm pretty sure the G60 is the European version of the G51, but don't quote me on that. If so, it should come out around September if memory serves me right. As far as the G71, I'm not sure. -
Lol we dont even know when itll be out in US
-
I just got my G71. I was wondering what I can do to make the battery last the longest.
-

You're wrong. The G60 is a different model.

There should be a profile to help with that, other than that, you'll need to optimize your computer software and settings to get bettery battery life.
If you don't mind, would you make a review of the G71? Thanks. -
Because Canada sucks when it comes to electronics. Don't hold your breath. I'm getting mine across the border.
-
The drive feels pretty snappy so far. If I get the chance, I'll run a 3DMark06 test on it. Like I said, I'm thinking this is going back to BB.
On a different note, one thing I did notice when I popped off the back cover is that there appears to be three antenna wires in there. The current wireless card is only using two. So a three prong wireless card should be able to work. (Intell 5300) -
Keith why are you returning it? What's wrong with it?
-
He said that he thinks that the GPU was downclocking before even hitting 90C.
-
Why is that? Is there anyway around that?
-
Nothing is Real Notebook Evangelist
15% Bestbuy restocking fee ftw. -
It's probably something with the software (drivers or utilities) that's causing it, but it might take some investigation to figure out how to fix it and why it is happening.
-
Nothing is Real Notebook Evangelist
Woah. Where do you live Keith?
-
You will have to pay SHipping, Insurance, Duties, Taxes ....
-
ok so rednara bought a g71, anyone else?
-
Milwaukee, WI
-
No problem for me. My dad works across the border all the time. The only bad thing getting at BB is the warranty but if I can get it to last a year I'm happy and pretty sure it's fine by then.
-
Lucky you. But still, he need do declare it ?
-
Yeah, you probably won't need 2 years of warranty but the 1 year of insurance Best Buy leaves out is critical .
-
Lol, I'm getting the 2 years.. Going to college soo I need it to last.
-
Nah he's a truck driver so he has some benefits.
-
SteelersWorship Notebook Consultant
Smuggling is a benefit? -
Sure, why not?
-
Why yes. Yes it is.
-
I call it country love...not smuggling
-
No, if he takes a long trip he can get by. He is able to spend a certain amount of money you know?
But sure, smuggling is another option
, and if he can get by? Yes it's a benefit. I'm sorry that the border customs don't check the thousands of trucks everyday lol.
-
Been browsing forums for awhile, and just bought the G71gx-rx05
Will try to post 3d mark06 scores and temps when I get the chance -
k man nice to hear ... post some crysis too
-
Hey Everyone....
I dont know if Im coming into this late
Today I went to 2 best buys and on both G51 computers I was able to install furmark
I ran Furmark MAX BURN test for about 5 minutes on both
Temps MAXED out at 102 C.
How bad is this? -
Lethal Lottery Notebook Betrayer
LOL why would declare the laptop? Just open the box and throw it out. And put it laptop in a case, problem solved. Let the customs agents look for real threats instead of picking on the gamers.
-
Just checked out the G51 at BB and it looks really nice. The only drawback was the proc - 2Ghz. Although getting a 260M GTX video card in a $999 machine, it's probably well worth it the price. It looks cool too!
I like it but can't pull the trigger, waiting to see if Gateway releases any info on their next Gen FX (or if there will even be one). -
NewEgg just realeased one notebook G50VT-X8TW with a P8600 CPU for $999,99.. Maybe it runs faster than the G51 at BB?
I hope it doesnt have lightning all over it =P -
Too bad it still has the older 9800M GS.
-
Oh well try BB! They have the new G51 which has the 260M GTX 1GB!
-
Seeing how we know the burn-out temp is 108C from someone's BIOS a few pages back, it's pretty close...what MSAA settings and resolution?
Like I've been saying: it doesn't look like a problem now, but dust is what I'm afraid of. I've never owned such a meaty laptop? Is dust that bad of a problem?
~Ibrahim~ -
yeah ... and it has the 1366 x 768 resolution....
-
That's horrible. After I read your post, I ran it for @ 1680x1050 with 4x MSAA plus Post-Processing, and after 10 minutes my temps maxed at 87°.
-
Yeah that is pretty horrible. GG. 87c here too.
-
Meh, that's not so bad for gaming. Its pretty bad for doing work though (spreadsheets, coding, word processing, etc).

I was thinking about getting the g51 but then I saw this. I want to keep my laptop for as long as possible but with the overheating issues on the g51 i'm not sure what to get. Opinions? -
Yeah, but doesn't your GTX 260M downclock it self when it hits 82C?
