So anyone have some good suggestions on how to best protect the back LCD panel from the daily go around. My last model the BB one was white and did a better job of hiding small blemishes and scratches. The black with blue highlights (X1A) shows everything and I have OCD. I figure a few months and it will look like hell so I want to protect it.

Is film going to be the best solution?

You could always try a few layers of clear coat.

If you did that you'd be able to buff out smaller scratches.

I recently got my asus g51 and I'm running TF2 with high setting, I'm getting 30 fps on average. I have nothing running in the background and I was wondering if this is how fast it should be running.

This is the best laptop ever!!! It does everything I require, games play at full! The only test remaining is AC2, SP: Conviction, and L4D 2, which may test its graphical abilities...

Can't wait for those games to come out...

Just picked up my G51 from Best Buy after work today!

I'm just going to go off the regular initial set-up for now until tomorrow when I will install windows 7 on it.

I was going to buy Battlefield while I was at it, but we only had it for the mac......

    Hi,

I was wondering what kind of fps difference there would be with stock settings on the n81vp-d1 vs. the g51 with a 2.5ghz processor while playing crysis and CODWaW at 1366x768? I know the difference in 3dmark06 scores, and I can see the difference on notebook check...But I am told that those numbers are unreliable...Could anyone give me a ruff estimate?

    Thanks for your help!

Remember that the G51s have a downclocked 260m also so once you set it to stock speeds, your fps will fly up.

I'm lookin in on getting a cooler so im wondering about the various openings that you see on the bottom of the g51, do they bring air in to blow out through the side opening or do they blow air out like the big one on the side?

I've got another question which is kinda stupid but wutever. i wuz looking through the manual and it said that to open the laptop up you have to press the "display panel button" and then tilt the screen up. Is this like a typo cuz from what i can see, its simply gravity-held and you just lift the screen up.

Yes, they are intakes. The big circular one is actually not open. It is a gravity held screen, no lock like the G71.

Don't download nvidia drivers from their website. Instead, go to laptopvideo2go and get drivers from there.

    -------------------------------------------------------

I just download drivers from laptopvideo2go, but i get the same message. I don't what to do. :( I tried driver cleaner but i get the same problem. :(

Does anyone know how to reinstall LoJack for the G51? It says to go to this website: http://support.asus.com/download/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

But I can't find a tab for LoJack anywhere...Going off to college, and I'm looking for any way to protect my laptop from people who will be very much tempted to take pretty objects from rooms that don't belong to them...Hence my desire to reinstall LoJack(removed from a clean install of Windows 7) and to get a cable lock to physically tie it down when I'm not taking it to class...;P

Ain't nobody taking my new baby! :p

The wireless card actually supports "N" speeds, and not "A", also, just to mention!

The linux based operating system is called "Express Gate" as far as I've seen, but they may have different names elsewhere.

Well, while reading around, there is supposedly a fatal flaw in LoJack that allows malware and viruses to use it to embed themselves into the bios...Maybe I'll hold off on even worrying about it until that situation is fixed...I would still like a reference to where it can be reinstalled if anyone knows, though.

After looking at the support site, I think I found something that -might- lean in the direction of there being support for quad CPUs in the newegg G51VX-X1A. There are only 2 separate dropdowns in the support site for the G51 series. the G51VX, and the G51VX (Best Buy). I could be reading too much into it though.

I just ordered the G51VX-X1A and it should arrive next week. I am planning to upgrade it to Windows 7 immediately. For the drivers, Vista 64 Bit would be compatible?

And was there a fix for the explosion sound on start up, like how to turn it off?

You can, but then you disable all sound, period.

Just something you'll have to live with. It grows on you, though.

In my case (g71) i couldn't leave the initial start up explosion as i also work and visit costumers, and what worked for me was disabling the startup extra screen in the bios, now it loads without a sound and goes like a normal computer displaying the bios and memory n drives checks etc.

This has been reported by some people.

It is suspected that the dropping is either due to a bad WiFI card or your router is too old and thus incompatible

Whats up all, new to the forum! I have a little bit to say about the g51. I dont like to complain about it because I won it. But anyway when im playing guitar hero world tour, I cant hold down x,c,v at the same time, but I can hold down c,v,b. Definately a unique thing. But some of you may say, GO BUY A GUITAR! But I like the keyboard better!

I have noticed that the wireless connection is a little unstable. Its fine unless you move it.

Another thing is, on the bottom it doesnt show where the hard drive bays are, so I have yet to throw in a hard drive because of this. I dont want to loosen screws that I dont have loosen.

Why did I have lightscribe software installed if the drive itself doesnt have it? Dont ask me, ask asus looool.

Backlighting on the back of LCD. Its pretty cool, but its wasted battery life. Could add 1 minute more of battery time if it was off 0_o.

Oh, and i read through this entire thread looool. I saw someone post on that the Best Buy version probably doesnt support quad core......Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks for the dedicated guys like TevashSzat, for making guides and what not. Very nice.

Anyway, I should probably actually work instead of read forums! :D

    Later all

Oh and I cant get the damn webcam auto login thing to work. I have taken 100+ pics and it still doesnt recognize me after a reboot. I got it to work once or twice then nothing....

Ah,aka Ghosting. Its weird though like I said, i can hold x,c,v no problem..... But not z,x,c...Oh well it doesnt matter. Can you tell me weather I have to take apart the entire underside of the laptop to get ot the hard drive bays or not?

    Thanks.

Not positive but I believe you only need to open one panel to access the HDD.
