Okaydokes. Never noticed the non-13x12x 5 variants hanging out near the bottom.

And Asian-eyes thing would have backfired if I wasn't half Filipino.

Forge, the x51 can be 2 hard drivers? Have space for both?
And, you recommended overclock the micro to 2.5ghz???
    Regards.

    Not in the least.

Stupid overclocking is what you shouldn't do. If you're generating too much heat and/or you glitch constantly, lighten up the overclock. Find a balance between performance and temperature and you're perfectly fine. What damages your stuff if you let it run unsatisfactorily hot... and ignore the heat.

Hah. The exteme mode is like... +7.5%.

It depends on how well your processor responds to overclocking. Tev can barely get his P7350 overclocked to 2.3 GHz, while I ran stable at 2.5, and yet someone else has it at 2.6.

Yes, it can support two hard drives in two seperate bays.

The stock 2.0 GHz should get you through most games and tasks perfectly. Only overclock if you notice shakey performance.

My head hurts from reading all those new posts. although I have been getting a good kick out of forge and soviet.

on a lighter note, my RAID setup should be coming in on like wed. at the latest! if all goes well, I should be getting a throughput speeds of 450mbps read and 350write. SSD's FTW!

You want to RAID two 64MB SSDs? What are you going to fit on there? An OS and like two games?

Regarding the overclocking things, the range is between 2.3Ghz and 2.5Ghz not 3.3 and 3.5 as Forge said for the P7350

    Shouldn't it be 400x2=800MHz?

Unless the RAM is in fact OC'd, in which case 1000MHz isn't a number I use.

And can a t9800 be put into any of the models, specifically the Best Buy model or the X1A?

With my underclocked/undervolted processor I never drop below 40 FPS.

Except for the add-on campaign Heaven Can Wait, where one time I dropped to like 18.

    Wait what.

If you managed to dig up a result where I still had a P7350, I got that 11000+ score because I had overclocked the GPU to something like 605/1510/990

Much to the shame of various Asian ethnicities everywhere, I can only understand and speak English.

If I stuck it "up" the ricebowl, all the rice would fall out. You wouldn't do that to a fellow Asian, would you?

And how much does that Clevo weigh now.

I don't know. Counting only the copper and black aluminium blocks, my Clevo weighs an additional 465g. My machine originally weighed 4kg. The copper plate definately brought my machine over 4.5kg. And I still haven't counted the northbridge shim, the buttload of thermal pads, and the aluminium heatspreaders, soon to be copper, on the system memory.

I'm assuming you didn't use your "secret" method of attaching those aluminum blocks.

How thick is your Clevo, not including the screen portion. While my g51 is probably "shorter", I don't have near enough room to worth with.

Mine is about the same height as the G71 at it's thickest point. Most performance grade notebooks such as the G51 should be able to fit 4-5mm blocks easily.

You should be getting better scores. I can get 10199 with my CPU just at 2.3Ghz. Run 3DMark06 a couple of more times. We are all using Dox drivers so if you are using stock ones, that may be the cause of the difference too.

Like someone else said, its DDR which means you double the DRAM frequency of 500Mhz to get 1000Mhz.

Your stock DRAM frequency is 400Mhz since DDR2 only allows a max stock of 800Mhz RAM so you did overclock the RAM via the FSB by 100Mhz.

Note that RAM timings imply changing the latencies which raising the bus speeds won't do.

Sorry to change the subject / playful banter :p

wondering if anyone has downloaded the Asus BIOS 203 from the support page? I havent.. was wondering if it was any improvement over what was currently stock.

Also, why is it called the "first release" of a BIOS for it, when the stock version (at least on mine) is 202?

I wanted a bigger screen. I may sell this g51. Its the 2.53 non quad core version. It does have the 1080p screen. I paid 1350 dollars at newegg. I would sell it for 800 via paypal. If anyone knows anyone interested let me know. The laptop has a discolored spot on the cover that you would never notice. Otherwise its perfect.

In my adventures in experimenting with quads, I flashed to 203. I haven't noticed any difference, though.

Then again I wasn't really paying attention back when I had 202.

By the way, anything about buying/selling has to be done through the NBR marketplace forum.

I've tried to run 3DMark06 a lot of times already (no less than 10), and I can't get past 10.1k, each time i look if I do the setFSB thing correctly, as well as the NTools settings (using DOX 185.85 drivers). I even followed the task scheduler instructions you had for setfsb for 2.5Ghz and CPUID, but I see no effect on the benchmark.

I need to get somewhere like 10.6K (the ones I see in some signatures here) for a 2.5Ghz OC so I know I'm not getting an inferior machine, before I undervolt. The GPU temps get really high ( 95C after one 3D06 run, and a 102C after several minutes of Grid) so I am likely to flash the undervolt vBIOS.

I'm thinking about re-installing the DOX drivers.. when I did the driver sweep thing, I only checked one of the three Nvidia choices. I remember checking them all when I installed DOX drivers to my late G50VtX5, and the results were satisfactory. I just played safe when I did it to the G51, but right now that's the only option, so no stone left unturned. Thanks! will update you on this one.

Don't check the Nvidia chipset since that would be bad to say the least if you removed the drivers for that.

What are you individual subscores in 3DMark06 then? Also, what resolution are you running it at?

    SM2.0: 4,657
    SM3.0: 5,150
    CPU: 2,019

for a total score of 10,095 this time.. i'll reinstall the drivers to see if there's anything else there. thanks for the advice on the chipset, u just saved my machine there :D

Just to clarify on the CPU OC, if i just use clock generator ICS9LPR604AGLF, get fsb and slide the upper slider to 500/760, does that mean i already have a 2.5GHz OC or should I do something else more? i suspect i'm missing a step somewhere..

@mczen your CPU score is too low for 2.5Ghz.

Check with CPU-Z when Orthos is running that you're actually getting the overclock.

Setting it to 500/760 will only give you 2.3Ghz. 567/760 will give you 2.5Ghz

Alright, so I thought the 500/760 was the 2.5Ghz OC. Used 567/760 and i got 10,806  this time around, and I thought mine was a sub-par card, whew! :D

Thanks Tev for the patience, now I can proceed with undervolt as this thing really runs hot (74C CPU, 99C GPU after that benchy).

I need to keep this a bit cooler as those temps running every gaming minute every day might cancer  the parts after say a few weeks (or months). I'll just use your vBIOS in your guide though.
    Kudos! :)

Kidding. Another user had a picture with negative CPU usage. It was a problem with Vista reporting or something.

No, it's not a problem with Vista. Negative CPU usage means that his CPU is unlocking it's special ability to actively cool itself down.
