Rezigrene, I live in the gayest city in California. Forge may be liberal, but I'm one of the hardest conservatives you will ever find in the Bay Area. Oh, screw the Ravens.
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
And I thought I was the only one.
And not about the Ravens. -
LOL when did this thread get political?
-
I live in the bay area as well haha. Alameda to be specific.
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Nah, it isn't political.
Political is "[insert political leader/party/idealogy] totally sucks" -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Rezigrene totally sucks because he logged off on us when I cornered him. There, now it's political. -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Rezigrene isn't a political leader/party/idealogy.
Have at you. -
I went back like 15+ pages. Did anybody buy a "stock" G51vx with the quad core 2.0GHz? I'm curious on difference benchmarks you might have run.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
In benchmarks the Q9000 will outrun the X9100.
-
In games it depends on wether or not the game itself supports single, dual, tri or up to quad core. The only game that really utilizes quad fully is GTA4 and even Cryostasis. Other games, even crysis, will be better off with a high clocked dual core so a 3.0ghz dual is better off than a 2.0 quad, for now at least.
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
In the long run the quad is still a better choice. We were able to run Crysis with slightly overclocked P7350s, so it would mean a Q9000 should have no problem either.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Crysis needs quad SLi rather than quad core.
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Well, since the topic at hand was about dual cores, not dual GPUs.
-
Hey guys! my cousin just brought me back an RX05 from the US (i live in Australia!) VERY happy with the laptop. just ran a 3dmark06 test at 1280x720 and the 260GTX has a max temp of 89 degrees with all factory drivers and settings.
I've been following this thread since the very start and i think 89 degrees sounds about right
Will look into undervolting the CPU, GPU soon to lower these temps with tev's guide, very happy with the laptop and the community we have here!
Edit: btw the score i got was 8637, i was expecting something closer to 8400 or 8500
-
I'm a Steelers fan, so ha.
Also, lol Raiders.
And Chargers.
And 49ers.
Three teams and none of them are any good. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Good, because I hate the Ravens. -
Anyone know why FurMark is only reporting a Core speed of 301MHz and a Memory speed of 232MHz?
They should be 625/925/1515. -
Also, do you guys think those clocks are better than the 605/950/1450 in my sig?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
625/1515/925 is faster than 605/1450/950. However, I should remind you that if you are going to break out of the native core/shader ratio, you will get more performance by raising the shader, not the core. For stability purposes, it would be best to keep the core/shader linked.
-
Nothing is Real Notebook Evangelist
Define linked.
-
he means the 1:2.5 ratio.
-
Nothing is Real Notebook Evangelist
I see, thanks. -
@Rezigrene
Thats really weird.....those aren't the clocks for any of the modes on the GPU by default unless you've since changed them. I'm guessing just a Furmark quirk. -
Eh. At the new clocks in my sig, an hour of L4D only pushed the GPU to 73C.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Those are pretty good temps.
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
And it was performing at the usual--or better than usual--levels?
I'd be lucky if I didn't stray over 84C on 500/1250/799.
Then again, it was only an hour. I'll play a quick single player game at a high overclock and see what I get. No cooler, right? -
re: the Windows 7 upgrade program has anyone found a way around ASUS' inane proof of purchase requirements?
I mean sending mail to Taiwan or international fax seems like more than a bit of jumping through hoops for those in the US. -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
You can scan and email.
-
What do you use for the proof of purchase? The bestbuy stickers and whatnot all over the box?
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
I ordered mine online, so I had an order slip and invoice.
Anyway, played Left 4 Dead for an hour. CPU was set to 2.97 @ 1.175 volts (as close to the P7350 Rezigrene has), and 600/1500/925 GPU.
I maxed at 86. Well, I actually maxed at 87, but, interestingly enough, this was during the credits.
Temperatures hovered around 82-83 most of the ways. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Those must be some intense credits.

You have no idea. 1,200+ zombies were harmed in the making of that movie. -
Performing just fine, everything hat can be maxed was maxed.
I'll double check on this tomorrow. Unless HWM stopped reading my temperatures correctly.
And yeah, no cooler. I'm a purist. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
That's the first intelligent statement I've heard all day. -
We can't all rip the sides off of our laptops and point a warehouse fan toward it.
-
Uhh, asus sent me an email telling me to send them my proof of purchase since that site does not work for me. It tells me my serial or whatever is invalid.
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Then fill out the form for an "invalid" serial. -
I have a question, when does ASUS send the confirmation of taken payment email. Do they take the payment just before the shipping (or some other time)? (I've filled the form and everything was fine, but still didn't send the proof of purchase.
In the email they wrote "An email will be sent to you upon successful payment". Should I first submit the PoP so that they can take the payment? -
Hey guys, very happy with the laptop so far, but i have noticed some very strange GPU idle temperature issues!
Initially, the GPU temp will be ~65 degrees, which slowly comes down to around 60 degrees. From here, the fan on the left side of the air vent turns off (no hot air coming out anymore) and the GPU rapidly rises to ~80 C before the fan comes back into action and brings the temps back to 60C
This fluctuation occurs when the system is idle! does anybody have any idea what's going on? i have bios version 203 and using stock drivers from ASUS. I am about to upgrade to the latest WHQL nvidia driver to see if that helps
I have attached my GPU-Z log file for you guys to take a look at, please help!
I cannot understand why the fan behind the air vent just turns off as it is barely audible anyway
EDIT
Just upgraded to 186.03 drivers (couldnt recognise my video card even though it was a WHQL driver so used modded inf), now my clocks are core:200 memory: 120 during idle, and temp is 49 degrees atm on idle! sorry about the big fuss
however, my 260 is now recognised as a GTX 170M.. but it doesnt bother me so much
EDIT 2
link to modified inf is here as requested by Explow
p.s. my brightness hotkeys stopped working after updating to this driver! i'm sure i've read about it before somewhere, but can someone give me a quick solution?Attached Files:

Wait wait, you can't put a quad core in a dual core slot can you? The p7350 is dual core, so doesn't it have a different cpu slot? What's different between core 2 quad Q9000 and Core 2 Duo T9600
-
The CPU socket is physically the same for the dual and quads, but there are changes in the BIOS and, correct me if I am wrong, the motherboard as well required to support quads.
-
wow, after all that idle temperature testing, 4 drivers later the DOX 185.85 actually gives me the best idle temps with a constant 49 - 50C. This surprised me as i thought dox would be the hottest with the increased performance!
Very happy nonetheless
-
@FuniGTR
Yeah, basically your high idle temps before were due to the fact that your GPU was in Extra mode instead of 2D mode -
Ive already done that and they sent me an email back telling me to send them my proof of purchase, i guess ill send the invoice.
-
Wait. are you saying the stock nvidia driver doesn't downclock when the GPU is not in use?
-
Does anyone else's DVD drive click and beep on start-up or on wake, and click really loud during a game install?
-
Yes, the stock nVidia drivers keep the GPU clocked at 500/800 all the time, my temps was around 60C~70C idle.... DOX is working good here also... Idle temps around highs 40'sC
-
Mine does that too.. don't know why it has to go click when I wake up the laptop though.
