Since the Powermizer switch doesn't feel like working I'll go back to my earlier question. If the manual instructions say to change the PerfLevelSrc value data from 3333 to 3322 when mine is set at 2222 to start with, should I still change it to 3322 or something else?

wait..my mind is undecided about notebook cooler. the final verdict, NC2000 vs Cryo LX vs Antec 200? which one, for better temps? i know ppl say NC2000 is good, but which one is the best?

also i heard nzxt had some fan speed issues and whatnot...is that still existant? is there fixes for it? i like that is has a built-in usb hub, but if the fans dont work then its useless...

Zalman gets a plus-one from me. Had it on while I was at work today, torrenting stuff. About, say, nine and a half hours. Max temperatures with a 1.163 CPU undervolt was 43/41 CPU, 50 GPU, and 41/42 for the HDDs. My room, as of this moment, is 83F.

    Try and find out.

Honestly, I don't think anyone knows the answer to that question. I've seen very little as far comparative testings go for coolers with the G51. Most opinions are based on statistical assumptions rather than actual testing. Things like fan and vent placement, RPM, and so on. You can estimate which will be the most efficient, but you don't really know unless you do comparative testing.

Personally I would love to see a dedicated thread for people to contribute their results with various laptop coolers for the G51, or any Asus laptop.

I haven't tried it yet, but I looked ahead at the next step to see if I could find the PowerMizer registry. I'm looking around, but I haven't been able to find it. I know it's not where the guide said it should be.

I just bought that antec cooler S, since on amazon & newegg it doesnt hv any negative reviews + my friend owns one & likes it. He also told me how it performs & its cooling pretty good.

Also i tried what soviet did by placing his laptop over a huge fan (that he got from wallgreens). I had mine over a bigger fan (borrowed from a neighbour) & had it on high for like a few mins & there were no temp drops at all (cpu, gpu ....) !!!

well, tell me how the xpad goes forge, its either that or a dedicated active cryo lx. still need to look up the power problems tho...doing an essay on which country in 16th century is the most "intriguing", what a **** subject. so open to topic..idk where to start lol

Well, an active cooler will always provide better cooling than a passive cooler. Goes without saying. But when a passive cooler is facing a deactived passive cooler, the passive will provide better performance (I'm citing Soviet's test with an XPad versus an inactive Zalman) since the passive cooler is designed to cool without fans.

Plus the average passive is less bulky than the average active. And you can't break a passive bar snapping it in half.

The Antec Notebook Cooler S is Antec's take on the famous Spire Pacific Breeze. It's a really nice cooler for the price.

It depends on how big the fan is and the notebook itself. My late Walgreens fan used to shave around 30*C off my old M38AW's 6600 GO. Back then I used to be a die hard advocate for active cooling, I did everything I can to incorporate gale force winds into my laptop. The 6600 GO was notorious for being a bit hot in this laptop at factory clocks, but I overclocked and overvolted it anyway. I think the overclock was from 300/300 to 400/400, ~33%, and I forgot how much the voltage increase was. Because the heat output was massive, the GPU would frequently hit into the 90's more easily than the G51 ever can. Because I rarely brought my notebook with me in high school, I resorted to using my box fan to help cool it down. I was still young and stupid back then so I am sure that there were many flaws in my experiments back then.

To be exact my windows key also doesn't and when i press fn+numlk/scrlk or anything on the num pad it doesn't switch it over to the number pad but the arrow keys work as well as pg down, but not pg up (9). any help would be appreciated, thanks again!

Just try hitting numlock. Is the lock symbol with "1" in the center lit up?

It's on the top of the keyboard, next to where the hotkey pressure buttons are.

lol srsly tho what does an tech. graduate like yourself have any association with russia? just a genuine interest in the post-Romanov dynasty or what?

on topic...i will prolly only get one, and the xpad seems to knock off 3-4C and its 30bucks while the nzxt/nc2000 knocks off a maximum of like what..7-8C? if those numbers are true, idk please tell me they arent, then i would go with the xpad since its lighter, and doesnt use power. the might of passive COOLING!!! i really would liek to see how the cryo+g51 line up.

also lol at the numpad...i doubt he forgot that its just NUMlock instead of FN+numlock, forge...actually you never quite know ppl these days. we will see, if he doesnt respond, most likely he is faced by shame that he didnt know how to operate a numpad toggle switch/too lazy to check if he got a response or 2. he responds obviously stating he tried just Numlock and will need further help. most likely the latter.

whoop 1/2 done on da essay!!

ahh ok. lol we are like just learning about the romanov house and the hapsberg's mighty rule. now that is some history that isnt 1/2 bad. interesting to see how one family can control nearly all european superpowers. also, isnt soviet union like after all the traditional stuff has pasted? like after 1917 or whatever till late 1900s?

anyone keen to tell me what nzxt problems are (link me or something...) cuz im writing my essay so i dont really wanna get distracted seraching...how ironic that im writing this post as we speak :O

EDIT: wow wth i try to find the KBFiltr in C:/, its not there even with search. its listed on my processes tho. forge wanna confirm if you have it as well?

Right I get you ..... but you didnt exactly answer how come no temps changed when i did it with a much bigger fan than yours with my G51 ..... i mean literally no temps changed while it sat there for a few mins.

its the same true story 4 all of us & that never really changes ..... "Ignorance then curiosity is the 1st step to learning."

Are you sure you had the fan pointing up? Haha. I'm assuming you're using one of those hovercraft looking propellers, yes? You barely get any cooling if you put the notebook near the center of the rotor.

    Yes, very true words, ZeusV.

The only thing I find strange about this computer is the lack of dedicated volume buttons. I don't see how they determined having dedicated buttons for disabling/enabling the touch pad and changing the color scheme were more important than volume control but thats the only real complaint I've had in the 3 months of owning it so I guess that's good.

haha...upgrade to a T9400 or P9500 if you can find appropriate price. im assuming you cant put C2Q cuz its an RX05/X1A or X2A (not confirmed for quad core support so you can assume its not cuz i doubt you will buy a C2Q without knowing if ur laptop supports it or not in the first place).

Asked & answered ad nauseum. The GPU can only be replaced with another Asus GPU since they use a non-standard MXM card. The GTX 260m is the best on offer at the moment.

There will be no update. You will have no control over the lights with this model, ever. I am willing to bet $5 to every G51 user complaining about the lights that Asus will not pull through with addressing light controls on this model. Cut the wires or build yourself a simple switch.

It's not hard to build a basic inline switch. You can get all the parts from RadioShack for around $4. The only downside is that it will need to stick out of the notebook if one wants immediate control on the lights.

Have any of you guys upgraded the mems on the G51 to DDR3's yet (or is considering it)?

Just wondering if it's worth it for the buck. :D
