Yeah 6 months after its released lmao. The Current (no more) cheapo of 999 didnt come until late in the game and its previous was 1200 to start. If they decide to do a quick release of a 999 dollar model dont expect much from it.

 

I don't expect a cheap $999 Best Buy version to come out at the same time or near the same time as the "reseller" version release. However, I wouldn't be surprised even if it did. Best Buy and Newegg Asus sales is run by a different person than resellers Asus sales.

 

Exactly. I don't know where I read it but I heard a principle that says in order to notice a real difference between computers, your new computer should be approximately 3 times more powerful than your old one. And speaking of that, it ought to mean that by the time I buy a replacement for my 4 year old Asus Z71V, I'll be really impressed with it! lol

This may be a frequently-asked question by now, but I am wondering how GTX 260M will perform against Mobility HD4850. I was looking at MSI GT725, but now I am waiting for the G51 with my fingers crossed!!! G51 must be released soon lol

 

a mobility 4850 is almost on par with the gtx280m.

 

you mean GTX 260m right? I thought the 4870 was the 280's competition.

I was about to buy the g50vtx5 for college, but now this announcement looks great!

 

my bad, i meant the 260m. I do think that the 4850 carries a lower TDP than the 260m. Both cards respectively allow for over 10k though. (msi gt725 and sager 8662)

 

So I went to best buy and tried to push the release date of the g51 out of them, but the stupid employees didnt even know what a netbook was much less whenevr a g51 was going to be released (gah!! I hate bestbuy!!)

they said new laptops should be in by the end of the month tho.

I dunno. I talked to a guy at Best Buy in San Diego last night and he seemed to know what he was talking about. He was totally drooling all over the place when I mentioned the g50vt-x5. He said it was probably the best laptop they sold (too bad they were all out of them!). When I asked about the g51 and he said that he didn't know, but that's understandable. I'm sure the Best Buy big dawgs aren't gonna start spewing restricted release information to their lowly floor reps.

someone just suggested I look into the Sager NP2098 today, at exactly $1000 it looks like nice competition for me (dont need TOP line)... but im not familiar with the ATI cards.

 

I am guessing (actually, hoping lol) that they will start selling G51s before July 4th. God, I've never been this anxious since waiting for the new Family Guy episode.

If you're talking about the intel turbo memory thing I don't think I heard anyone say it's worth it. Also if you plan to game alot on your laptop you should know that graphics are what's more important than cpu speed. So if I were you I'd still get the x5 or wait for the g51

 

The Asus G50Vt or G51 would have a better graphics card, and the option of a second HDD.

 

Well guys the wait is over.. I am a best buy employee and i can tell you we have just start receiving the first batch of the asus G51 series.. It is priced at $999. I looks like it comes with the 6 cell battery pack rather than the 9 cell like how the G50Vt came with. It has 4GB ddr2 memory with the GTX 260M 1GB Gddr3 memory. I did not get a chance to check the resolution but at $999 my guess would be it was the 1366 x 768 resolution. Has a 1.3MP camera and a 500gb hdd has a second bay but left empty. I do not know what the processor spec was but I would say its a core 2 duo @ 2.0 ghz.

Its the robotic white and it did have the side flashing lights.. I did not see the Organic display like the other models. Yes i know, Just created the account to fill you all in with the details.. I just may buy this unit and give you all some more details.. We only received two units and one sold.. I am holding on to the other one till i decide to buy..

Yes the processor is upgradeable and i think i am just gonna get it.. Few more hours to go before the store opens so i will fill you all in with anything you guys want to know.

Well we already sold one yesterday when it just came in so i dont think we have any restrictions on that. Our store only got two units don't know how many the others will get.

coolhamoood - I am 100% certain it has the GTX 260M 1GB gddr3 because i saw it when it was in geek quad getting a optimization. I just did not get enough time with it to check out all the specs.
