    Ordered mine 18th Oct 2007:
Estimated Delivery date: 30th Oct 2007

Will just mention the parts that might differ from others (no PhysX card):
Blue - T7500 (2.2Ghz), 4Gig Ram, Vista Home Premium, 2x250Gig 5400rpm, Bluetooth Module + free bluetooth headset, mouse and belkin messenger bag - price is $3468 AU Dollars. Anyone else notice that they have taken the price up by $100 in Australia? I got my order in the day before!

I'm exchanging this for an XPS M1710 I got about a month ago.

YOU GUYS DONT NEED A COOLING PAD OR ANYTHING unless your using xps on bed, sofa, or carpet, or using it at the desert

It uses a dual fan so the cooling system is excellent.
Good thing that Dell made this rig so you wont feel heat from the keyboards.
If you touch the rear areas where the fan outlets are, they are hot but no worries because it means its exhausting hot air.
However, you wouldnt want the xps rear area to be touching the wall because obviously, the heat will be trapped and it might overheat.

So far, I have already played:
    Half Life 2: Orange Box
    Portal
    Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars
    Call of DUty 4 demo

I didnt encounter ANY heating problems.
So ppl who are wonderin if the xps can cook an egg omlet, IT CANT

You can get a mint as Dell XPS 720 Desktop for that much money.

Go to options and setting. u will see a column that says dual graphic or something like that. However, im not sure if the demo actaully supports SLIs.

At the maximum setting, it wasnt that good. But if you lower the texture or something else to medium and keep the rest high, the framerates inreases.

so basically the texture stuff is what slows the cards down. Is that because they are 128? But if there are two shouldn't that add up to 256?

No, because one card renders half of the screen and the other the other half. It doesn't combine the cards' bus to make 256.

Theoretically you should get similar performance, however in reality it doesn't quite live up to it...

Thanks for the comments on LCD panels. So far it seems that people in Australia and NZ only have the Samsung screen. I am going to call and speak to a contact I have in Dell today and see if she can give me any idea on what my chances are of getting an LG panel.

    I'll post my results.

I was referring to the memory bus being 128 bit, not 256 bit. The 8700's come with 256MB of memory each...

Hi this is my first post, I've been reading this thread for sometime and was just wondering if any one is getting the bone white version of the 1730, if so could you post some images of the back, with the light on. It would also be good if I could see pictures of the back for the other colors with the lights on (crimson red, sapphire blue, and smoke grey)

We ever find out what "Dual-Rank" means? I know people said NVIDIA have not released any information on it, and others have said its just marketing BS, but that does not seem plausable to me.

If it was a marketing ploy, wouldnt they say..

    Memory Bus: 256-bit*
    *Duel-Rank

That way they can make the card look better. Not just stick a vague label in after 128bit making people think "Whats that mean?".
While "Duel-Rank" does not a 256bit Memory Bus make, i dont believe it does NOTHING and is all in NVIDIA's imagination. I am interested to know what it is, performance gains or none aside. Maybe its something that is specific to SLI configurations..... i hope they tell us soon.

Y'know, that's the very problem I have with Dell. All their customer service people just act like... robots. I always feel I'm dealing with an android -vs- a real, caring person. Those responses are just so cold and uncaring - just pre-programmed for the Indian tech support user to cut and paste in response.

thats pretty fast, do you know if it comes by plane or ship or do you have to pay extra, i just want know how long it takes to get from were it was made to melbourne as it has been two days since it was in the shipping stage, how long was the wait from start of shipping stage to when it arrived in Australia, my estimated delivery date is the 29th and it seems a bit long when the laptop boarded a ship on the 20th?

It was plane because it left the factory (in Asia somewhere?) on the 19th and arrived at the courier on the 22nd. I didn't pay for any express service either.

I don't know why it was so fast, a lot of the people in the US and Europe have to wait over a month even with express!

Below is a cut'n'paste from the Dell website:

    16-Oct-2007 Order Received
    16-Oct-2007 Order released to manufacturing
    19-Oct-2007 Ship from Factory
    20-Oct-2007 Loading for Export
22-Oct-2007 Arrived in Australia Main Hub
    22-Oct-2007 Dispatch to Local Courier

Got a phone call from the courier to deliver tomorrow morning, 5 working days all up.

OMG, that sucks. i was hoping to run CPD4 on maximum settings. Does it still look ok when you run it on settings with SOLID framerates?? (i rather sacrifice graphics for proper non lagging speed)

any chance of a screenshot please? (not on max settings, but on settings when you can actually play the game decently)
