YOU GUYS DONT NEED A COOLING PAD OR ANYTHING unless your using xps on bed, sofa, or carpet, or using it at the desert
It uses a dual fan so the cooling system is excellent.
Good thing that Dell made this rig so you wont feel heat from the keyboards.
If you touch the rear areas where the fan outlets are, they are hot but no worries because it means its exhausting hot air.
However, you wouldnt want the xps rear area to be touching the wall because obviously, the heat will be trapped and it might overheat.
So far, I have already played:
Half Life 2: Orange Box
Portal
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars
Call of DUty 4 demo
I didnt encounter ANY heating problems.
So ppl who are wonderin if the xps can cook an egg omlet, IT CANT -
Just managed to get the dell xps 1730 for 2575 usd .Now that price defineley compares with alienware and sager

-
You can get a mint as Dell XPS 720 Desktop for that much money. -
Called Order Status Line - in boxing stage - finally!
-
-
Does anyone know what the Watt/amp output of the m1730 power brick is? I need to make sure my DC inverter can support it.
-
-
The battery is Li-Ion 11.1 V, 85Wh which equates to 7658 milliamp hours...
-
Wow! Pretty good service. Man, he must have been shaking after chatting with you. You should be an interegator!
-
ahh it started at 2,999, extra 1000 on extreme CPU, 400 on memory, 150 on vista, 200 on extra hard drive, 350 on blu ray, 60 on belkin bag, 100 on longer warranty, 150 on internet security, 50 on mouse. it adds up
-
US buyer here, and after dealing with dell i can confirm CD2 proc, is delayed 64ssd delayed, and BR delayed.
-
-
At the maximum setting, it wasnt that good. But if you lower the texture or something else to medium and keep the rest high, the framerates inreases. -
-
Theoretically you should get similar performance, however in reality it doesn't quite live up to it... -
Thanks for the comments on LCD panels. So far it seems that people in Australia and NZ only have the Samsung screen. I am going to call and speak to a contact I have in Dell today and see if she can give me any idea on what my chances are of getting an LG panel.
I'll post my results. -
Mine just arrived in the Main Dell Depot in Australia today. Where is this exactly, Sydney or Melbourne?

mr greenfingers Notebook Consultant
forget that last comment about the cards im going crazy starting to belive evrything i read lol see what dell is doing to me cant even think straight
-
I was referring to the memory bus being 128 bit, not 256 bit. The 8700's come with 256MB of memory each...
-
Hi this is my first post, I've been reading this thread for sometime and was just wondering if any one is getting the bone white version of the 1730, if so could you post some images of the back, with the light on. It would also be good if I could see pictures of the back for the other colors with the lights on (crimson red, sapphire blue, and smoke grey)

sorry mate my head is fryed from talking to dell all day going round in circles

We ever find out what "Dual-Rank" means? I know people said NVIDIA have not released any information on it, and others have said its just marketing BS, but that does not seem plausable to me.
If it was a marketing ploy, wouldnt they say..
Memory Bus: 256-bit*
*Duel-Rank
That way they can make the card look better. Not just stick a vague label in after 128bit making people think "Whats that mean?".
While "Duel-Rank" does not a 256bit Memory Bus make, i dont believe it does NOTHING and is all in NVIDIA's imagination. I am interested to know what it is, performance gains or none aside. Maybe its something that is specific to SLI configurations..... i hope they tell us soon. -

I mean 4 videos on you tube, I mean c'mon!! -
Yeah I'm almost thinking of posting one myself!

-
Well I don't have my M1730 quite yet
....
ESD is the 29th, but hopefully it will be shipped before then because it's in Testing stage apparently, and that shouldn't take all week to do, I'd hope not at least! -
Im getting mine today in a couple of hours. The DHL guy better come here first if he knows whats good for him
Im going to post comprehensive picks and video. -
mine says its boarded the ship on the 20th as soon as i get it i will post a video on you tube showing my thoughts and playing some games, its a saphire blue just to let you know.
-
Hey wildog,
I'm in Melbourne and mine flew in today. Should be getting mine tomorrow as it's with a local courier now.
I don't know why its getting here so quick (1 week in total). -
Mine will also be arriving sometime later today. getting pumped!
-
thats pretty fast, do you know if it comes by plane or ship or do you have to pay extra, i just want know how long it takes to get from were it was made to melbourne as it has been two days since it was in the shipping stage, how long was the wait from start of shipping stage to when it arrived in Australia, my estimated delivery date is the 29th and it seems a bit long when the laptop boarded a ship on the 20th?
-
It was plane because it left the factory (in Asia somewhere?) on the 19th and arrived at the courier on the 22nd. I didn't pay for any express service either.
I don't know why it was so fast, a lot of the people in the US and Europe have to wait over a month even with express!
Below is a cut'n'paste from the Dell website:
16-Oct-2007 Order Received
16-Oct-2007 Order released to manufacturing
19-Oct-2007 Ship from Factory
20-Oct-2007 Loading for Export
22-Oct-2007 Arrived in Australia Main Hub
22-Oct-2007 Dispatch to Local Courier
Got a phone call from the courier to deliver tomorrow morning, 5 working days all up. -
