    I can answer that

... Heat related issues, nope but it is a metal case so it does get warm, my highest temp ever for processor and GPU was 63C and 69C under load ... well within safe parameters ... and I keep my Laptop in performance mode all the time

    I have no issues

And as for the Bluetooth, you can buy this off of ebay

The SXPS was released less than a year ago so I guarantee your laptop is still under warranty. So call/chat dell and they'll help you.

I'm not sure, you remove the bottom pannel and see.

If you have the 210M you should be able to enable it by setting the power plan to balanced or high performance.

thanks for the warranty information. I entered my service tag, B4VMZ1S, and received a interesting result "There are no service contracts or warranties associated with this system." Honestly I have never had a problem with this computer, and I dont use the dvd drive very often, I just need it working when I want. I'm not sure how to remove it so if anyone has some instructions, that would be great. thanks!

Sorry, but it's impossible seeing as how the card is soldered to the motherboard, and you couldn't find a video card for it.

Experts... What would you recommend... Higher power processor (P8700) with integrated graphics card or Lower power processor (T6600) with dedicated graphics card with (512MB) video RAM... I am trying to choose system without increasing the cost like higher end processor with dedicated video ram is ruled out... I will be using it for a regular home use will not be using it for regular highly intensive game playing..

I think you answered it already :p

Just to add: The XPS 1340 with 9500M graphics cards (9400M IG + 9200M GPU ) performs better while on integrated video card (9400M).

I'm considering a new m1340, and am wondering what the 9500M addition would get me. I watch HD videos, either downloaded or from Youtube/Hulu, and if I got the m1340 I'd be interested in playing them over HDMI. Will the graphics card dramatically help me in that respect?

I doubt it will help. 9500M set up is totally useless, IMO. I haven't seen anybody here got better performance on 9500M vs 9400M.

9500m GE set up will help a lot in the recent games such as devil may cry 4, left 4 dead, left 4 dead 2, dirt 2, and others.
@thejakal. if you just use it for normal use then just buy the 9400m one to save some money :)

Thanks! Sounds like it helps mostly for games, which I'm not interested in so much. Plus I imagine that it can run hotter, so I'm comfortable with the 9400M. Now, LED screen or not? And what's that leather accent thing?

LED Screen makes the screen little thinner and display crispier..Leather accent - Leather is wrapped at the bottom of the top lid just below the aluminum accent it is just for look and feel ...

Can someone answer this please....Does all of the Studio XPS 13 have a strip of black leather running across the lower quarter of the lid...Does this cause any maintenance / durability of it...

I ordered one from Microsoft Store as it said leather accent was an option and did not get a chance to open it as I am out of town... I saw one at a store and did not like the leather accent and also seriously doubt the durability of the leather strip..... I leather accent is in all of the device ..then I am planning to returning mine ... and look for a alternative..

I just confirmed with the Dell that my system has the leather strip...so I will return it back once I reach home tomorrow...I am concerned about the durability (Worn out / getting peeled off etc...) of the leather strip.. given that I have two kids younger than 10 years who play with it...

AFAIK, the t-series have a higher tdp (35w) then the p-series (25w) so the p8700 are the power saver here.

I have decided to return my SXPS 1340 (I've had it less than 21 days). The reasons why are mostly NVIDIA G 210M related:

The Windows Experience Index test completely freezes my computer 4 out of 5 times when running the test, requiring a hard restart/reboot with the power button..... and when it does work without hard freezing the entire computer, usually it will drop the NVIDIA driver and have to restart again (showing a pop up error message about it, sometimes it will do it a few times in one test).

The NVIDIA G 210M freezes/crashes the computer each time I run Google Earth 5. (as soon as I click on the street views in the menu)

When I tried to run 2 different Video Game Demos that I downloaded from the NVIDIA site (the "street fighter" and "race on" demos from NVIDIA), the Race On demo couldn't even get through the intro movie and player setup part without completely freezing with a black screen that had to be hard-restarted/rebooted.

And the Street Fighter demo sort of worked better, but when I ran the benchmark test it would crash and drop the driver with a blank white screen (and the same error message would pop up just like the Windows Experience Index test would give on the times that it wouldn't completely freeze the computer).... when the driver would restart then I would get a nice 30.75 FPS average..... but then it would crash and drop the NVIDIA driver every other minute, having to restart it's self each time.....

When it ran (the street fighter benchmark demo) it did look very nice, but I also noticed that it still had some graphics tearing (and I noticed Google Earth 5 would get some graphics tearing also).

Plus, the speakers crackled with the Windows Login sounds, and I don't like how the headphones only plug in partially, meaning that there is a lot of metal left exposed on the plug, as if they weren't plugged in all of the way (possibly only my computer?).

The crackling issue and bad sound quality is something I could of lived with (so much treble..... losing the OEM sound app/equalizer made it a bit better for me, but it still was very bad), and the headphone jack seems weird, like a factory defect or something..... like my headphones weren't ever plugged in all of the way and could easily lose a connection if I slightly tugged on the cord.

I had these NVIDIA issues happen with both a factory install (with all of the OEM bloatware), and with a clean install using the newest drivers from the Dell Driver Download page..... I even tried the newest NVIDIA 195.26 from this page: http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winvista_win7_x64_195.62_whql.html

..... and the 195.26 driver dropped my Windows Experience Index down to a 4.8 (from a 5.8), and that result was on the gaming part. However I was able to run Google Earth with less crashing but it had very bad video tearing, and the occasional crash and freeze like before.

My Windows Experience Index score was:

    - On BOOST performance mode -
    Code:
    6.3 - Intel P9600
    5.9 - 4GB DDR3
    5.8 - NVIDIA - G210M
    5.9 - NVIDIA - G210M
    6.9 - 128GB SSD

When I aligned my SSD drive to align=64 and used a SSD drive tweak utility I could get a 7.0 for the hard drive.

    ******************************************

Then there was my Linux issue:

As a Linux user for the last 3 years I was pissed to find out that the G 210M does not work at all with the Linux NVIDIA drivers (it's recognized by lspci with the BusId "PCI:2:0:0"), but I can not add it to my xorg.conf to get the dedicated card in use..... and they have absolutely no plans on fixing Hybrid SLI support for the NVIDIA Linux driver, and most distros don't have any working ways to use the dedicated cards yet. (it seems that people that have the G 210M card are just using their integrated cards rather than the dedicated card).

Ubuntu has a bug page out about the G 210M which is trying to fix the issue by using the DSDT.dsl files: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/312756?comments=all

..... and on that bug page comment #102 just said Ubuntu has no plans on fixing this until next October 2010.

.......... so when I contacted Dell they offered to send a guy out to replace the motherboard and card....... but I didn't want to chance it, and I want a computer that can run both Windows and Linux..... so I have my return box being sent.

What I did love about this computer was the back-lit keyboard, the slot load optical drive, the SSD drive (easy to align in both windows using align=64 and in Linux with fdisk -H 224 -S 56 /dev/sda), and I loved the bright screen and the fully functioning webcam/microphone in Linux. (and multimedia buttons that worked in Linux)

This computer didn't really run hot for me and I had it running in Boost Performance mode.

Now I'm trying to find another 13"/14" inch laptop with similar specs and a back-lit keyboard..... just no Hybrid SLI. I think I'll try ATI this time even thought I've heard nothing but horror stories about the Linux drivers.

    /rant

For starters, I got this laptop because I wanted a dedicated GDDR3 graphics card that would be able to play modern Video Games and run apps like GoogleEarth, Stellarium, and all desktop effects perfectly on a dual boot of Linux and Windows 7.

To not use the NVIDIA 512MB dedicated card would seem like a waste in both Windows and Linux, plus it would still be a drain on the battery in Linux (with it not being able to shut off, or even use the card)

For anybody interested, the exact error message is:

It seems that a "successful recovery" means a complete freezing of a game or an app, the loss of all screen graphics to either a blank white screen or a flashing blank black screen, and then a pop bubble saying how successful windows was at recovering..... which I guess is better than the other thing it does when this happens - which is a complete freeze up of everything, and no other option other than pressing the power button to reboot it.

But, I am going to run some tests of what it's like to just use the 9400G M just to see the difference.

Won't an uninitialized card just not run? I didn't notice any more heat running linux vs windows with hybrid sli (dedicated disabled). If not, I suppose there ought to be a way to turn of a random pci device and cut power to it under all-powerful-linux?

On Linux (my preferred OS), the G 210M runs and uses power even though it's not using the 512MB discrete graphics.

    http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=110920
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/312756?comments=all

On Windows 7 the Hybrid Power and Hybrid SLI should work as they were designed to do..... but even so..... with my broken G 210M..... why would I want to pay money for a G 210M card and then not be able to ever use it..... I would rather get my money back. (maybe a new motherboard would have fixed it but I'm also mad about the linux issue)

Anyway, my problem is that the G 210M won't even run on Windows 7 without crashing and freezing everything..... they said that they could send a Dell Tech support guy out to change the motherboard for that issue..... but then I still would be left with no Hybrid Power or Hybrid SLI on Linux.

..... otherwise a very nice laptop.

Yup, I got everything installed except for one device in the device manager that is listed as "coprocessor" does not have a driver. Anyone have any ideas what that is?

Also another issue that i am sure is just because I do not have the latest Nvidia driver is that I cannot switch SLI modes, I am stuck in the lower mode (I really don't care because I use that 99% of the time anyways) but figured I would ask anyways. ahha one more question, does anyone know where to get the power profiles that Dell has preconfigured?

    Thanks!

That unknown device might be the IR port. I use the vista x64 driver and everything is fine. There's also a win7 driver (Dell), but it doesn't provide the same functionality.

According to the sound manager there is no problems, the sound follows, no errors or inactive and the level meter indicates sound presens. But the tv arent not giving me any sound.

Any gives on this matter, tried all settings on the tv, but no luck there.

Did you try going into laptop audio settings and changing it to HDMI output?

Yes, same problem here. If you read NVIDIA's latest driver notes, you'll see in there that they say HDMI audio has been disabled with Philips TV's due to some issues. Supposedly, the HDMI audio works with Philips TVs in previous drivers.

    Good luck

I had the same thing and fixed it by right clicking on it and updating driver software. It downloaded something from the windows update and now it works fine. I still have no idea what it was. PS, has anyone ever used the IR port? in xp there use to be a icon in the control panel, I cant find anything in vista/7.

    Hi Guys!

Anyone knows wheter it's possible to "switch off" or bypass the 9400M and use only th G210M GPU?

I mean in cases when SLI is not supported or does no boost as it should, makes one feel kinda like having a GPU with dedicated DDR3 RAM without being able to use it, or benefit from it.

BTW where SLI is supported one can still have some issues of it, it wouldn't always work properly.

    Thanks in advance!

Just ordered 2x4Gb Samsung DDR3 SODIMMS for my SXPS13 laptop £230 from ebay. Seems a really good price.

Can't wait to get them installed.
