Nice.... but what do you need 8GB for
I know you might not really need it but just want it, that's cool. I'm the same way, I don't like people saying I don't need something so I shouldn't get it :spinny:

Hey guys, is that Signature Event where you get the Studio XPX 13 for $999 a pretty good deal? I haven't been following the prices at all. I was initially looking at the 16 with the RGBLED screen for around $1150, but just came across this deal this morning. I wouldn't necessarily mind the smaller machine - I was otiginally shopping for something around 14". The NVidia 210 upgrade is only $15 also.

Can you see either the 13 or 16's at most best buys?

hey, just for kicks can anyone tell me what the port between the usb and hdmi is and what it is used for? I dont recognise the label so I assume it is a "dell only" plug because I've never seen it on any other computers before.

That XPS deal is ok, but it doesn't let you choose from any of the 6mb cache CPU options that are available on the site in other offers.

What version are installing of Ubuntu? If it is the newest, either do an update (connected via ethernet) or restart your computer and then open up the "hardware drivers" program and it should find drivers for the broadcom or atheos or whatever it is. Actually come to do it on my computer it looks like the drivers were installed upon installation and the only thing in my hardware drivers box are the Nvidia drivers.

I've heard of freeze problems, but I don't know if there is a fix for it.
You should call dell and have them deal it it.

Also I recommend win 7 and not vista.

Interesting post I saw below in another thread:
If it's true, this will dispel any hopes of a SXPS-13 refresh. If it was to go, I wonder what will be replacing it? I know AW are releasing a new 11" portable next month, but surely Dell will have to offer some sort of high-end 13" notebook?

That makes more sense, they're probably beginning the phase out of the C2D models and hopefully introducing Core i5/i7 systems. It will be a big overhaul on the machine as the motherboard, chipset and graphics configuration will all have to change.

I'd imagine they'll reduce prices on the C2D systems if i5/i7 models comes out, but from past experience, it never seems to be much.

Some jackass technician drop and dented my hinge while he was replacing my keyboard

Dell is going to replace the lid, and as a bonus there are upgrading me to a Arctic White lid and a WLED screen over my CCFL for my troubles ... glad I didn't buy that screen of ebay yet

    Dell isn't so bad

The ff are the only drivers you have to install, then just use the Windows Update for the rest of the drivers including the unknown device (IR port)

    Chipset drivers (2 drivers)
    nVidia Driver
    Synaptic TouchPad
    Dell Quickset

Windows 7 Pro 64bit works like a CHAMP!!

    just a quick question

i just got my xps 1340 today, and installed windows 7 pro 64 bit, the laptop has 4gb ddr3, but in system properties it says 4gb installed (3.75 usuable)

is that because of the video card? i have the 512mb nvidia geforce g210m

geforce g210m and 9400m G are shown in device manager

    thanks

I believe it's the "Reserved" memory from Windows 7. My 1340 says the same thing.
I'm not 100% sure on the "reserved" idea but correct me if i am wrong

    Hello,

Is it true that XPS 1340 has a lot of problems? I was thinking about buying x1340 but many people including this forum are complaining about heat problems, fan noise and other hardware failures. Should I avoid this machine?

    Thanks,

The Facial Recognition software. Should be in your "My Dell Downloads" account-not the driver page.

go to the dell support site, type in your service tag #, at the page with drivers there should be a link at the bottom that says "my dell downloads" click that and it will take you to the extra software your laptop came with

edit - minute too slow, lol

Hey guys my wife's 1340 with the n210m 512 GPU is having a weird intermittent lock-ups issue... every couple minutes it will hang for 1-2 seconds the sound will stutter and then it will resume working just fine... I have searched high and low and havn't found a solution. Anyone else here have the n210 512mb without any issues? Just trying to rule out it being an issue with drivers or hardware...

Thanks! Thread on the problem is here:

Hello fellow xps 1340 owners. I just recently bought two of these laptops and my first one will be arriving today.

After reading through several pages i see that this computer does have some problems.

One i bought new from the Microsoft store with the 599 deal they were having and i was curious on what first steps i should take to get it running how i want.

i plan on replacing the thermal paste..aside from that anything else? atleast software wise? will i have to update my bios firmware? or should it be the newest already?

My laptop shipped with newest bios and other software. If you don't like them, then you can do a clean install. However, i kept it because i like the way it is. You only need to update the graphic card's software and others will be fine

    I wouldn't have paid no more the $900 ... I would upgrade my cpu to a P8600

If you look at the specs in my sig ... I payed $750 for mine, but I only have the P8600 and the 9400m but thats all I need

    Don't have answers for 1 and 3, but I can answer 2:

With both GPUs running and gaming the system gets very warm but it's within spec for the GPUs. Not all games run worse with it in Hybrid SLI, a lot of games run better, but most require installing nHancer and activating Hybrid SLI for each game.

Yes, I use mine all the time. It usually recognizes my face about 75% of the time. My only suggestion is that when you set it up, do it in a neutral light since light determines how easy it recognizes your face.

I just got my 1340 today. I noticed that on my drive, the drive will only load the disc automatically when I've inserted the disc far enough into the drive to the point that only about 1 to 2 cm (less than an inch) of the disc is sticking out of the drive.

Is this normal? This is my first laptop with a slot loading drive. I can only compare with slot loading drives on the Wii and PS3 where the drives easily detect and load the disc as son as about 1/4 of the disc has been inserted.

When the drive ejects the disc, the disc moves out until about the entire hole at the center of the disc is exposed.

I'm having trouble finding out exactly HOW to slightly overclock 1340's dual GPU cards. I know the Nvidia control panel allows me to O/C both GPU's, but getting the right settings for both cards are having me confused right now. I did some google research and came up with absolutely nothing.

I know it "can" be done, since this guy clearly states "with a push" raised his 3dmark 06 score up almost 500pts. And reading through the the comments on the bottom of that page, he does state he overclocked both the 9400 and the g210. However he does not disclose the settings he used or anything.

    http://www.notebookforums.com/thread230251.html

I guess my question is, has anyone been able to successfully O/C their 1340 other than this guy? And what settings did you use with both GPUs?
