Thanks mate! Very nice of you.
Well, the yellow bars you are experiencing is most likely the battery. If you disable it in device manager they will go away.
Do you by any chance know which motherboard revision you have? B01 or B02?
-
Thats the main reason why i was seeing if anyone knew a program to control the fan. Say....turn the fan on high during gaming sessions, that way to keep the temps below 70. Instead of fans starting when temps go up to 70, drops to 60, fans off, temps rise till 70 again, fans kick in, 60..etc etc. Would be nice to just have the fan constantly on when i want it to be on. -
WESLAW.. but the mesh back on, we all know how xps 1340 collects dust in matter on minutes! you will get sick and tired of cleaning the fan every single day.
You said u dont have parts for a copper mod. Well I did a copper mod with same compound artic silver 5. and it worked much better than with stock thermal pad + as5!
I also wasnt able to get the copper, until I went to a local hardware store and bought a small copper pipe. it cost me about a dollar. I asked the owner of a hardware store to use his metal cutting scissors and I cut 2 pieces that were very close in size to the gpu surface plate.. I came home and smashed those pieces with a hammer to flatten them! then I chose the one that was ideal in size and applied it! My temps idle are 40-42c cpu, and 44-5c gpu, when stressed nothing goes higher than 70 ever! I stressed it by playing crysis on my 9400mg card for half an hour.
so go to a local hardware store pick up a copper pipe and metal cutting scissors... but the most important part!! when doing so preserve ur stock thermal pad, in case something breaks u can switch the pads back to make it look stock so your warranty wont be trashed! -
I'm not sure. In Cpu-Z, under the "mainboard" tab, it reports Dell "0Y525R", A11 (bios), Nvidia 730i, Rev. B1 (I assume that is the chipset rev).
It's running a P9600 cpu. -
B1 is the chipset rev, all the latest xps1340 have b1, the very first xps1340's that can out had A verison... after nvidia changed the chipset die so it will get rid of temps faster, so they called that revision b1... im not sure if there were a1, then a2, or just a1 straight to b1... but b1 is the latest one.. and it works fine
-
Great, thanks for the info, both of you.
The reason I'm going on about the B02 revision is because of this remark on DELLs site:
"2.This BIOS is for B02 chipset".
So, I just automatically thought that there was a later, possibly even better, revision. -
anyone have recommended antivirus for our dell 1340???
with win 7 x64
thx.
rumor said that avast make system freeze -
Many good apps, many bad apps.
For the money, try Malwarebytes at http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
It's free but you might want the "pro" version for $25 that "actively" guards against attacks and bad IP's (etc). On Valentines Day it was on sale for $15. -
I use Avast, it doesnt make overall system freeze, it just freezes when you open up control panel, but if you open it up second time success lol.... I still prefer Avast because it is very lite on ram! and cpu! plus it updates itself! I threw out my Norton antivirus the one I payed 40 bucks for and been using Avast for 6 months, and love it! the laptop boots fast, as with other antiviruses they load too long because they are heavy on ram!
btw newest Avast version is very good, it protects from everything, web, email scans, full detailed scans, online gaming, etc.. its really good, I dont have problems with it, it only gets annoying when u open up control panel for the first time, plus I like the fact that it downloads updates automatically. Try it you got nothing to lose! also if u want less crashing and freezing for ur system use chrome instead of IE, internet explorer is garbage
My 2 top choices for xps 1340 or any win7 machine is:
Google Chrome
Avast Free home edition, you can find it on download.com -
LOUSYGREATWALLGM Notebook Deity
I have tried several anti-virus programs except avast so I can't comment on the system freeze issue though some people say its good.
I would prefer more load with better security over less load but more risk to infections/backdoors. My contribution would be is when you need an anti-virus that could clean your pc (just drop me a pm) -
Help! My Studio XPS 1340 is turning ON automatically...from sleep, hibernation or shutdown states.
I already disabled the auto wake timers on the power options menu.
Anybody else have this problem? -
Is there a new model coming out shortly?
The current one is no longer available... -
I prefer Avast also. Not seen any system freeze with Avast though I found Avast from system-freeze issues from McAffee and Norton , the commercial morbidly obese anti-virus products.
-
xps 13 is gone from dell canada as well... looks like major modifications coming up
-
im using nod32 v4 now... its a good antivirus too..
-
im using nod32 antivirus....
still get freeze for the 1st time open control panel.... (sometimes)
very wierd problem....
-
I am using avira with no freezing issue as the avast that i used. when i use avast, the control panel will freeze if u press it the first time. the second time or more won't cause it to freeze... However the annying part of the avira is that the avertising will pop up everytime it tries to update. Other than that, avira is pretty good
-
Am using the MS Security Essentials, free, no ads and seems get quite reviews which mark it as average to good.
-
I have had good results with Ad-Aware, the free version works fine for me.
-
thats is why im using avast, i tried norton, kaspersky, nod32, avira... avast is very simple.. i can care less about the first control panel freeze.. its the set it and forget it part that makes it all worth it!
-
yes ad-aware is fantastic. I am a systems repairer and have put hundreds of people onto ad-aware and everyone loves it.
-
sxps 13 removed from dell AU site, any news on the replacement?
-
Just thought I would share this, but since I had my Studio XPS 13 ripped apart today for cleaning, I slipped a bright green piece of paper under the power button and the four LED's on the front of the bezel. It looks pretty cool and isn't the bright white they were before. Anyway, I think it looks nice, thought I'd share that as an easy mod if no one else has already done it.
-
Yes, but it's not good news! Basically, they've discontinued the current Studio XPS 13. According to Bill from Dell here, the current chassis was simply not suitable for the new range of Arrandale Core iX CPU's in conjunction with a discrete GPU. They're supposedly working on a new 13" machine, but it's seems its not going to be available for at least 6 months.
-
cool, thanks for the info, I guess I'll have to save up for the new one!
-
Damn that sucks badly!! Man i dislike my ccfl lamp on my 1340, Well this machine better not all the issues this one had, this probably will be called the 1345 or some other stupid name. This new one better have ati!
-
My GPU just crapped out. They are sending a new motherboard w/ the tech on Monday. At, least I know I'm not alone
-
What happened to your GPU? It looks like my heatsink pipe is turning black, i have never seen that before happen. Also by the way how is your WLED?? It so hard to find that part.
-
I opened up a Dell chat and she had me run some tests. My computer turns on, the backlight for the LCD turns on, the screen stays black. She told me to turn off my laptop, then hold "Fn" and press the power button. This was supposed to run a diagnostic, but the screen remained black. The computer just did a bunch of beeping sounds. Then she had me hold "d" and press the power button. My screen displayed solid colors (green, red, white). This let her know it was the GPU. She said the tech will call me on Monday to fix it.
My WLED is great. It is working perfectly. As a side note, after my GPU went out and we were running the tests, I noticed that my laptop was extremely hot. I couldnt even leave it on my lap. -
Wow extremely hot! My 1340 still at times get really really hot, when you use the integrated 9400m gpu, and you have the screen brightness kinda half way down, and on balanced or power saver, with your ssd how long do you have battery life on your 6 cell if you have it or 9 cell? My keyboard is already worn out, i use it every day for school, sometimes at home. I now typing on my new M17x lol, best keyboard besides the precision m6400.
-
By the way, i kinda want to have like the 9550 or the g210 but its hard to find the mobo for it, also my pipe for the gpu is turning black!
-
I get about 2.5 to 3 solid hours of watching Hulu or surfing the net. Its nothing major. I do usually have my screen at 100% or near 100% brightness. The reason why I love my SSD is the fact that applications are up and running almost instantly.
-
Anyone play Battlefield Bad Company 2 on their machine? I am trying to figure out how well this might run on my system with the good old 9400m/9500m cards.
Any ideas? -
my guess is it'll run on decent on low, but dont expect too much.
actually downloading it right now, i'll let u know how it goes when i finish it -
I doubt it, the 9400m is kinda sad lol, the gt210 will run pretty good, so do you think dell will release the next 1340 or 45-47 with a intel 6300?
-
Hey whats up, well looks like my slot load drive got stuck with the punisher album first movie from 2004!!! I am on the phone with dell right now, ugg man what is it today with tech this month!!
-
Also my 1340 is throttling when i connect my 65 watt adapter, dell tech told me that they are working on another bios to fix it, when are they going to release it? I wonder who else is going through this?
-
Mine came with 90w adapter....so far it is working nicely. I thought that they will give different adapter to different gpus like 65w for the 9400m one and 90w for the 210m and 9500 m ge.
-
I have have the 9400m, its horrible, sucks cause i just cleaned this thing this evening and now its all finger printy again lol.
-
Anyone's hard drives particularly noisy? Over the past few days mine has become increasingly loud. At first I thought it was just fan noise, but it turns out its the hard drive.
-
Great, let me know how it works out for you.
I was thinking that it might work good on my "gaming rig" till I realized that its a P4 with a gig of ram and an Nvidia 7900 GS... I think my 1340 has better specs.
I guess I could always steal my wife's 1640 to try it out, I just don't want to spend $50 on something that is going to run like crap you know what I mean. -
Just got a test run on it. Just on single player with G210M and 9400m on SLI, it's definately playable on low settings, but slight mouse/aim lag. might not be tolerable on multiplayer, but for single player i suppose its alright.
-
Can anyone give me a link to dell's older audio drivers for windows 64bit?
Im using win7 64bit but since there has been only one release I will need to use vista's older drivers... I remember dell used to have a link for older versions of drivers , I cant find that link now.. Can someone guide me?
Thanx -
ok... first go to the dell's drivers and downloads. then type in your service tag or choose your system. Under the os, choose vista 64 bit. Then click audio. after that, click IDT-Driver. Then click "other version" that is next to the "Download type: driver."
-
Thanks again Hanming! I was losing my mind looking for it lol
-
Looking at buying one of these new privately, was wondering how bad the problems mentioned in these threads really are?
P8700
4GB DDR3
500GB 7200rpm
9500m
Not looking to do gaming, but for $700 CAD seems like a reasonable price. -
So it wasn't my GPU. The tech replaced my motherboard and the screen still wouldn't display. They are going to replace the LCD panel next. The tech said he doesn't think it is the panel though. When he plugged my laptop into my TV via HDMI the screen on the computer turned on. We'll see though. The best part... the tech had to call Dell and he ended up yelling at the Dell rep because the Dell rep insisted that the motherboard replacement should have fixed it. The tech said "I replaced the motherboard and the screen still isn't on (pause) YES, Im looking at it right now." The Dell rep didnt believe him.
-
its posible to speed up the fan of this laptop? in a manual way?
-
@hanming do you use win 7 right ?
what version do u use for display driver (nvidia 9500)
is it 8.15 version ????
thx -
@dixie1
I am using nvidia's official 195.62. So far it works great, i don't have any problem with it. And, yes i am using windows 7.
@eighta
I don't think there is a manual way to speed up the fan
