anyone get like my freeze ?? -
Dell sent the wrong replacement screen. Sent one w/out the leather. The tech called India and the rep told him that she will send him the leather piece to install. He spent the better part of 20 minutes trying to tell her that A) Dell doesn't have just the leather piece and B) The screen would have to come as one solid unit. Haha, the tech is a nice guy though.
-
@dixie1
I think, based on your statement, that your mother board might be faulty. When "few of lining with many colors" appears, it is mainly caused by the graphic card. You can plug in the external monitor to see if it still has the same issue. If yes, then it is gpus fault. -
OMG....
yesterday i use my lcd to play... but its freeze too with the line. but on my lcd there is no lining... just black screen. (im use hdmi to hdmi) -
You can use dell's diagnostic test. Press fn and the power buttom together. Your laptop will do a self test. You might want to chat with the dell rep to solve this problem.
-
im done with dell diag. nothing wrong.... all the test is pass....
hhmmm im confusing now... lol -
hi guys.
after reading through this thread I decided to upgrade my 9500m graphics drivers to 195.62 for win7-64bit.
I currently have the 8.15.11.8633 installed, and when I try to upgrade to the 195.62 I get the message "Windows has determined that the your driver software is up to date"..
How can this be ? And how do i bypass this ?
Another issue:
In windows vista my experience index was 5.4 ( due to the low graphics score), and in windows 7 its even lower: 4.8.. How can this be ?
thank you for a great owner's thread. -
always uninstall your old driver... and restart. after that install your new driver.
-
@dixie1
Just talk to dell rep online. Also, take the picture of your screen when it froze so that you have evidence to show that your laptop might be faulty. If they don't believe you, then they might ask a dell tech to check it. If they do, then they might change your motherboard.
@tupolev
Windows experience indext is useless so don't trust it too much. -
i think it was vga driver faulty.....
im uninstall vga driver. and using vga driver standart from microsoft.
no freeze.... notebook still running after 18 hour still On. -
Was looking forward to getting studio xps 13 delivered in the next week, but then had a phone call from "Jay"@ dell, letting me know that there is shortage on the thin screen (extra £100) and therefore no delivery till mid April. Cancelled as cannot wait that long. Sony on its way already.
-
i think i got the point....
i install vga driver with R233853.exe v. 8.15
and re-install my wifi driver with R228532.exe for 1510 wificard.
before this i use the newest driver from dell support, its for 1515 wifi card.
and now already 48 hour. still no freeze.... -
Nice to see that... at least it is not your computer's fault.
-
report....
im turning off my xps. about 5 hour.
and turn on again..... after 20 minutes later.... freeze again... with many lining.... !!!!
i cant contact dell support cause im bought this notebook from USA.
and now im leave on asia (indonesia) and my warranty not valid in here
its bad bad bad.... -
Attention all computer gurus and sxps 1340 experts!
I have had a huge and very annoying problem with my sxps1340 for about 4 or 5 months now!
This is the problem: When running on ac adapter and watching movies, videos, streaming videos, listening to music and streaming music... everything works fine like its suppose to!!!! But when Im using it on battery then I get frame tearing.. (its hard to explaing... when watching a video the video will make a sound from the speakers like its broken record getting stuck for a second or two.... same with audio, and streaming audio and streaming video!)
Initially i thought it was the nividia drivers! so I tried all drivers there are for 9400mg!! all nvidia drivers and all dell drivers... then I thought it might be the audio drivers since it does this when listening to mp3s also.... tried all drivers as well... nothing helps!!!
The laptop works fine when on ac power... but if i go on battery in a few minutes it starts acting up..... and when i plug it back in it still continues until I restart the laptop!!!
Someone earlier a few months ago said it might be the case with ac adapter or battery! so I had my ac adapter replaced! and same thing!!! I even had my motherboard changed twice!!! still same thing so its not hardware related im guessing...
So is it possible that it is the battery it self??? since that is pretty much the only thing that hasnt been changed... my HDD was changed twice just to make sure as well!! and it has the laster firware.
Im running windows 7 x64 bit... and when I was downgrading back to win vista 64 bit the problem is still there.... I have tried all drivers on both OS's
I have also tried many and many codecs.... and many and many players..
it does it in every player! from windows media, media center, vlc... etc...
does it in youtube, hulu, itunes when listening to music or streaming music..
Can anyone suggest anything???
I cannot get them to send me a new machine since I bought it in BestBuy... so its out of the question.. I still have warranty for about 4 more months.
Can dell send me a new battery? are batteris under warranty? since my battery is showing good health in Quickset how can I convince them to change the battery??
I just really gave up and use my laptop only when plugged in... that is very uncomfortable and beats the purpose of me buying a 13inch laptop!!
what can I do?? -
Hi.
I just bought a Dell Studio XPS 1340 with Windows 7 Home x64 pre-installed.
The intregated webcam stopped working, so I did a fresh install with the Windows 7 disc that Dell was so kindly to include.
Everything works like a charm, except the webcam, because I can´t find any drivers for it.
I tried with the Vista drivers that you can find on Dells website, with no luck.
What to do? -
webcam will work without drivers on win7!!! you just need the dell's webcam application!
call dell and ask them to give you a link to the application! -
Hm, no, it`s not that simple.
Under device manager, you can see the theres a "unknown device" under the usb-devices.
I installed the Dell app., but the program promt me a message that there´s no webcam installed on the computer. -
thats weird! I use win7 64 bit.. i clean reinstalled it over 4 times never needed a webcam driver.. ofcourse the first few times when i start the webcam app it tells me i need a driver, but it still works!! a few other people told me you dont need a driver for win7 thats why there are none under win7!
what you can do is install vista driver and it will work! vista drivers are compatible! -
Yeah, it´s weird, especially when you´re telling me that Win 7 doesn´t need any drivers for the cam.
Tried the vista drivers, with no luch... sigh. -
Is this a clean install?
if it is and you're having difficulties call dell.. they will do a dell connect session where they can see your monitor and control your computer.. they will try to install the drivers for you -
can anyone link me to the webcam console software? ive tried many of those from dell forums and when i open the creative console it says webcam not detected.
-
dell is pretty dumb when it comes to this! They have a seperate website to downlod your software that came preinstalled like webcam and face recognition app... But webcam should be in the drivers lists since everyone has one on sxps!
call them and tell them there is a smartsource website that you have for downloading my software that came preinstalled.. and the guy will give you the link.
I trully forgot the full link!! i know its smartsource something ......
after you go there make sure to burn it on your disk! because the dumb site lets you download it only a few times then your screwed or you can also ask them to send you a free cd with webcam app! depends if you want to wait for a shipment or go to the site the same day!
Good luck -
hey, if you do get a hold of the the software could you upload it to something? I didnt buy my laptop from dell and dont have access to it either. thanks!
-
Here's the link to Dell Downloads. Smartsource Something
I believe you only get to download a certain program 3 times total.
-
Yup thats the site!! even if you didnt buy a laptop from dell enter your tag # and you are good! PS i bought mine from Best Buy
-
My webcamdrivers appeard after a couple of windows update's, tried that?
-

-

I'm getting a Dell studio xps 13 as a replacement for my fried 1330 and I have a question about the graphics-card. I'm getting the 210m with 512MB of memory and my question is simply what kind of memory it is.
-
Just wanted to pass this on...
Successfully installed the new Intel Wifi 6300 "Ultimate N" wireless chip on the Studio Xps 13 (1340). So far nothing but great results. Sustained 10mb+ file downloads and 12mb+ uploads (using my Dlink 825 router). I connected white ant. to "ant 1", black to "ant 2" and used one of the mobile broadband antenna leads for the middle ant "ant 3". Not sure if this helps or hinders (you can run it with just 2 antenna's).
Been scared away from using any Intel wifi with a Nvidia 9400m chipset and can't vouch for the older Intel wifi chips (5100, 5300). I've tried Broadcom and Atheros chips (DW1510, DW1515, DW1520) and they all suffer the "Windows wireless slowdown" where after a reboot, you transfer a file and get 8mb/sec or so, that's good. Then the next one is just 2mb/sec and you end up crawling at less than 1mb/sec shortly thereafter. I suspect this is a driver issue, but not sure (could Windows7 problem, could be issue with my router, who knows!)
I'll update this post if I come across any problems, but so far so great! -
hey PDSway, how does it go with range? I'm currently using the 1515 which works great but doesnt get the range my atheros card in my m1210 gets
-
Does anyone know if and how I can install a GPS in my Studio XPS 13? I currently don't have any kind of WLAN card. Just my Dell WiFi.
-
Hey guys, I can get an XPS 13 1340 for $670 shipped online. It has a 2.4 GHz processor, 4GB RAM, and a 9500M graphics card.
The ONLY thing I am concerned about is the heat. Especially when it's using the discrete graphics card. How hot does it get? I plan on doing a fair share of gaming on this, will it get hot enough so that eventually it will ruin the system?
Please help, I am close to pulling the trigger on this but the heat problem is holding me back.
I also don't know if I am ready yet to be modding the system to keep the heat down.
EDIT: I have now read that the 9500m SLI runs WORSE than the 9400m. Worse performance with increased heat/noise. Well, that just takes this notebook from a possible "buy" to a probable "pass" -
It doesn't get hot enough to damage anything, it stays below the thresholds for the GPUs, though too hot to touch or play on your lap. Most games I've played I can get to run better in SLI, but several of them have required tweaking the "Hybrid SLI" setting with Nhancer. Some don't see any benefit, some see a loss in performance. Most of those though are older games that run just fine on the integrated card.
-
thanks but the site wont load after i click register my system wierd.
-
already clean install and install all driver you give me.
and now still no freeze.... but i dont active the aero system....
do you active it ? -
LOUSYGREATWALLGM Notebook Deity
@dixie1
Glad to know.
Yes, I use aero theme/features -
when im watch a video with full screen size.... its freeze....
and restart.... watch again... with full screen.... its freeze black screen..
d@mn !!!!
-
LOUSYGREATWALLGM Notebook Deity
That's odd. Do you monitor your temps (esp. the GPU)?
-
I'm still a little bit worried after reading through this thread. Seems like there are a bunch of complaints. I am coming from an HP laptop, which also gets hot and has had some problems. I don't like using my laptop at all, and I got it last August. I have completely sworn off HP, and I am afraid buying a Dell would be deja vu.
I think I'm just going to wait until the Apple gets their act together and refreshes their notebooks.
