fyi for those who still have the problem,

if you have the nvidia card, and not getting sound with hdmi, that can be fixed with returning back to the 18xxx drivers instead of the new 19xxx drivers for the nvidia card

I am using my XPS 13 (Nvidia 9400 + 9500)with HDMI connected to LCD TV. I have the video drivers from dell and get the Audio via HDMI. However, I get a cracking sound when I click on any item on my computer. I am afraid that the speakers may burst due to that and very irritating. This happens when using the "High Performance Mode" (might be using 9500) and will not happen when in power saver mode (9400). Is there some thing wrong with the Mother Board ?

    Hi Guys,

Quick question about the hdd height. I know the laptop normally uses 9.5mm 2.5" hdd's (or ssd's obviously). As most of you would know, WD recently released 750gb and 1TB 2.5" hdd's. The trouble is, these are 12.5mm in height and most lappys won't be able to fit them. (I think the unibody macs can).

I was on the market for a 640gb 9.5mm hdd when I saw a 750gb Western Digital with 9.5 mm height. It is unfortunately only avalaible on pre-order. So I thought if this laptop can fit a 12.5mm hdd, why wait for it to be avalaible?

I swapped a lot of 9.5mm hdd's on this laptop, and the space looks tight enough as it is. But just to make sure, has anyone tried fitting a 12.5mm hdd in these laptops, or a 9.5 is a must?

Ps. I've been reading both part1 and 2 of this thread for over a year now, but I haven't seen an exact answer to this yet.

    Thanks in advance

I wish they'd release a recent GPU driver with flash support AND HDMI audio. This one or the other sucks. Hard to run my tv with the HDMI port watching hulu or southpark studios why surfing the net either with the flash video bogging 70% of the processor or no sound.

I've got the sli 9500 and my esata works, I use it all the time. as a matter of fact, the new bios fixed my network sleep issue and to date the only real problem I've had was with the slot drive, I dont want to rub it in but I think I got a good one!

Hey guys I need some help.

I recently re-installed my OS, 7Pro, and now my bluetooth will not work. I have downloaded the driver from Dell. It would not pair with two devices that do pair with my other system. I then uninstalled the driver and tried the generic from Microsoft. I then uninstalled the bluetooth receiver itself. This is when things got much worse. It is now listed as an unidentified item in Device Manager. I have reinstalled my OS hoping that it would re-set, it did not. I then tried going into my registry and deleting the bth services as recommended on Microsoft's support site. For some reason, even when logged into the Admin account it will not let me. I have checked my BIOS and the bluetooth device is enabled. I have been seeing quite a few people in other threads recently talking about how they are having issues with their bluetooth devices which are either Dell or Broadcom so I think something may have happened recently with an update or something, as I used to not use my bluetooth very often.
Any assistance would be greatly apreciated, I am content to wait for an update or fix but I have done something so my system does not even recognize the device as a bluetooth radio. Also, I am out of warranty by a month.

    I have a 1340 Core 2 Duo P8700, Nvidia 9500M, 4GB RAM, 500GB HD (7200), Bluetooth 370 minicard, Windows 7 64x
BIOS A14, all updated drivers, except the Dell utility which they tell you to install first, it causes my system to fail when booting so I uninstalled it and proceeded with the chipset and so on.

Hi, I've been reading the thread for a while now, and I can't find the solution for the webcam driver problem on Windows 7 - 64bits, so far there are no drivers published on dell website, and the Vista drivers simply won´t work. Does anybody know how to solve this issue?

I'm sure this has been addressed already, given the length of the original thread and the length of this one, but sorting through everything might take some time. I was hoping someone might be able point me in the direction of a how-to of replacing the CCFL LCD with an LED version. I would assume all you would need is a new LED LCD panel, inverter (converter?), and lid cover. Blindly searching eBay, it looks like it might be do-able for about $150. Part numbers and a guide would certainly be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Hi I have this little issue, I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my Studio Xps 1340, but I kept the Windows Vista, so I have a dual boot, anyway the problem is that on Windows 7 on the properties I have on Installed memory(RAM): "4.00 GB (3.75 GB usable)".
I don't get why I get that message, I checked the memory on Vista and it says just 4.00GB and nothing else. I'd apreciate any suggestions.

The 0.25GB is shared with the motherboard's graphic card. It is very typical for XPS 1340 users.

Hello, i have a sxps 1340 with 9500M and i was thinking of changing the mobo with one that has the 210M hybrid SLI. I was wondering if someone could help me with a product number or at least the model number of the 210M graphics card motherboard.

Yeah, i know it`s a long shot, but a little research doesnt hurt. :D

Ah, and btw, if someone is still interested, the copper mod for the xps M1330 works on the sxps 1340 also but i`ve used 0.58 mm thick copper sheets on the northbridge and videocard. That alongside with some Arctic Silver 5 shaved about 15 degrees Celsius off the GPSs under load settling at around 75 degrees and the CPU at around 65 degrees with about 1 hour of WoW with the laptop on a flat hard table, but the fan was kinda loud. With some browsing and chatting in bed with the notebook in my lap the temps were about 50 degrees the GPU and 45 degrees the CPU.

I`m still trying to figure a way to cut some more vent holes on the back since the existing ones are almost covered then the lid is opened in a decent position.

I totally love this laptop, but whomever designed the cooling system on it should be demoted to kindergarden.

    @styr

Yep, I did the copper mod on my XPS 1340 before with different thickness though. What CPU you got in there? And what's your idle temp?

The CPU is an C2D Mobile [email protected], idle on a flat wooden table it settles at about 42-44 degrees. The CPU wasnt my primary concern tho, since the speedstep thingie does a good job and besides that it`s easy replaceable. :D

When i 1st got the laptop i couldnt run the Windows 7 performance assessment with the SLI enabled, the vent started at max speed, after that the overheating protection kicked in and the whole thing just powered off. Now i can play, i can run 3DMark on it with no problems and the GPU temp didnt go past 75 degrees Celsius.

Okay. Just wanted to see how your copper (thickness) perform compared to the one I did with the exception mine is T9900 & P9500.

    Thanks for sharing your temps.

This was posted in November of last year and I was just wondering if anyone else had verified this. Is it truly not possible to connect two monitors to the studio xps 1340 via hdmi and displayport at the same time?

If not, would hdmi and vga at the same work? Why does hdmi and displayport not work simultaneously?

    Hi guys,

I read a lot on this thread and yet haven't found the answer to my problem. I own a studio xps 1340 running on win7 and it seems like there's no sound coming out from the HDMI port. I read that the new drivers caused this bug, I tried to downgrade to 18x but the setup crashes, saying that it can found any compatible hardware.

Is anyone having the same issue and if so, how did you fix it?

    Thanks a lot.

This might sound like a silly thing to ask, but have ya tried going into the Hardware Sound Settings and set the HDMI Output as default. I had to do that on my m1330 and occasionally had to restart the program that I wanted sound to come out of to get the sound to work through the HDMI.

I'm not the most tech savy person so someone else might be able to be more helpful. I would say that there may in fact be a cable unplugged within the laptop of course. Yet you are able to display video through the HDMI port? Has the HDMI port ever worked in the past? It may just be a faulty port. If your 1340 is still under warranty you may want to try contacting Dell. If all that fails you may just want to try using the auxiliary headset jack on your laptop and plugging it into an audio input if you have it.

Also, have you every connected anything through the HDMI port on the tv before? perhaps there is something wrong with the tv although I doubt that your laptop would recognize that. It sounds like something might not be connected correctly internally. Perhaps you should grab a screwdriver and wristband and dive in and investigate?

I found that to get sound through HDMI I had to run the 186 drivers from dell's website (R233853 fox win7x64) - It wouldn't work with any 19x series & I haven't tried the 25x series with HDMI yet.

Hi, I recently bought a Dell Studio XPS 1340, and have a few questions. It came with win 7 32 bit, but I installed win7 64bit

    1) In device manager, there is something called "Coprocessor" that I don't have a driver for - what is this?

    2) On 32bit, when I turned up, or turned down the keyboard brightness, a symbol would come up on the screen (bottom right corner, above where battery, wifi and volume is) telling me what I have done. After installing 64bit, it doesn't tell me this anymore. How do I enable this again?

    thanks

Sorry to bump an old thread but it seems to be the best location to ask my questions.

    1. Have others had problems with the hot keys on this laptop? Approximately 2/5 times the laptop boots, the hot keys don't function. Typically my wireless is shut off during startup as well and I can't turn that on. This takes multiple reboots to finally get things working again.

    2. I have video card graphic problems every 15 minutes with the laptop. As i move the mouse around the screen, it will begin getting larger or smaller and just generally display things improperly. Typically minimizing then maximizing the screen will reset this.

    3. I have sound drop-outs every 15 minutes if watching video or listening to audio files.

I've tried working with various reps on the phone and updating all drivers. Still the problems persist.

Dell finally had me send my laptop in to a tech.

What were others experiences with the above?

PS.... Coming from an XPS 1330 to this..... Christ. I just can't win.
XPS was supposed to be the quality build.

@RT.. no I don't have the problems that you mentioned. Did you use Dell's self diagnostic test to make sure that you hardwares were working correctly?
@Aznyeast... The only solution for your problem is that you need to take the keyboard off and the palm rest off. You will notice the cable line that connected the lid to the motherboard under the word studio xps. You have to make sure that the cable line is seated correctly so that the palm rest will not force to push the cable line.

    Thanks for the response.
Dell had me send the laptop off to tech support. We'll see what happens when it comes back in 8 days.
    I'll update then.

Is there any way to manually control the fan speeds? It appears that a laptop that I RMAed ages ago returned with the fan constantly on full blast.

    Thanks!
