I guess I may have not been clear enough.

When they replaced my left speaker, they had replaced the whole panel where the multimedia keys are and the keyboard is. They do leave the keyboard itself, but the entire plastic panel around it gets replaced, yes. Assuming you've got stickers right of the touchpad, then those will be gone with the old panel.

As for the W7; of course there's a way to get free W7 Ultimate. It's just not exactly legal. ;) What I meant was that because the SXPS line BIOS' come equipped with a SLIC 2.1 table, it makes fooling a W7 system into thinking it's an OEM system that much easier. I don't want to say more, since these boards aren't really the right place for such discussions, but I'm sure armed with the words "SLIC" and "W7" you can Google something worthy. ;)

the 1340 takes half height wifi cards. They only just started selling half height intel 5300 cards. I'm not sure how well the 5300 works in the 1340, there may be problems due to the nvidia chipset but I'm not 100% sure

I'm having issues finding benchmarks of the sxps13 with the 512mb nVidia N10 (M210 iirc) GPU.

Does anyone have one of these yet and can you post the results ?

Make sure to use the newest IDT driver on the Dell site for Windows 7. The Dell site has added new drivers for Win7 x64, and that's helped out a ton. I just tried that and both sets of headphones worked perfectly fine.

Hard to tell. I mean, it's been replaced only last week, so not much time has passed since. The speaker was busted, now it's not. But if the heat from the CPU/GPU that is generated underneath said speaker is indeed the cause of the problems, it'll probably start to malfunction at some point again.

It is maybe true. The notebook check stated that 210m GS can be either GDDR2 or GDDR3. Of course, GDDR3 is better

Also.. intel 5300 does not work on SXPS 13. It will give you tons of freezes from booting the Windows to shutting down the Windows.

If you enjoy music, then i would recommend you to buy the SXPS16. It has much better speakers. SXPS 13's bass is kinda bad. The notebook check stated that 4570 gddr3 has the 3dmark06 of 4593. And i get 3800ish from my SXPS 13. Yeah..so 4570 wins by around 700ish. However the 210m GS's score is not out yet so we cannot compare to that. :(

I have a precision m6400, what i want is a new replacement for my blu ray laptop which is a xps m1530. I am just so sick of CCFL it sucks i am happy that manufactures are using LED's but of course, not every company will be the best. I would get the xps 1640 but one thing needs to be changed ATI graphics, i want NVIDIA!, I also want the newest core i7, the alienware M15x is just way to over priced. I read that the precision m6500 is coming out with i7 but it is going to expensive.

Does anyone have flex issues? The heat vent panel on my XPS 13 flexes alot. Also, is having 1-2mm space between the edge of the right side and the hinge normal? It bothers me quite a bit.

Anyone have any idea how much faster the new 512mb nVidia N10 (210m) gpu upgrade will be? I know its too new to find any benchmarks, but i'm about to pull the trigger on a SXPS and I can't decide between the 16 for the 1gb radeon card or go for more portable.

If this one can cruise through World of Warcraft and L4D at respectable settings I'll be quite happy.

Any guesses on How the Studio XPS13 with the N10 would compare to the 8600-M-gt 256mb thats in my Asus G2S if pushing 1920x1200 on an external monitor? slower? equal? better?

I only buy nvidia because they have good linux driver support. I'm sure freedom16 has his/her own reasons, too. I have a 13 with 210m on order, and I'll post some benchmarks when I get it (supposed to be 10/22). I don't own any games, though, so it'll be 3DMark or some such.

Or you can download demo games. 1gb demo usually downloads really fast from gaming servers thats if you have a good internet connection(around 10-20 mins), but if you cant we will be happy with 3dmark06, 05 and some vantage scores :)

To be quite honest, if anyone wants to listen to music in good quality (s)he shouldn't ever use any laptop speakers; go for headphones always.

I was thinking the same thing. I've been using my Etymotic hf5 with my 1340, and I was very surprised by the audio quality of the laptop. There's a strong difference between the laptop and my phone (G1) when using the same file and (flat) EQ settings.

Does anyone notice a slight faint buzz/whining noise/sound from the laptop? It's quiet enough that you won't be able to hear in a cafe but it's loud enough to hear in a quiet room. It's a constant noise and it stops when I scroll and continues when I don't. It is very annoying! Anyone experience this?

Sometimes the GPU can have a whine like that, but for me it's always been the opposite--noisy when I scroll, quiet otherwise.

The whine is constant though. It's not just sometimes. Does Dell see this as a faulty piece of hardware that can be replaced?

I have creative speakers, they are amazing speakers for their size, i want to get portable speakers now. I was told the bass wasn't that great but what i want to know is how is the weight of the notebook? I wish Sony would give the sr series at least a back lit keyboard. I am really thinking hard about taking this back and getting the 1340. I have to know if best buy will bring the 1340 with the gt 210. By the way i am a guy.

I have a notebook cooler plugged into the right USB port near the power plug on the SXPS 1340. When the notebook is shut down either on battery or AC power, the right USB port seems to remain active and the fan continues to run. Doesn't seem to happen with the left USB port. Anyone else have a similar problem? I think it started after I upgraded to BIOS A11 but not sure whether it might be some Windows power management feature or a bad USB port.

Just read something on the SXPS 1640 that this is a combo USB/eSATA port with PowerShare and it is designed to provide power to an external device or charge a device when the computer is turned off. Even though my battery has been discharging every day because of this, so much for a Dell "feature". ;)

Lol. I believe that is the "power share" feature. When the computer is off the USB remains active to allow you to charge or power items with the laptop's battery. You can change the setting with a program or in the BIOS. I forgot.

I think I may call and complain to dell about the gap and flex in the laptop. Also, my left mouse button sticks quite often.
As for heat, after undervolting and running the 9400 the laptop remains extremely cool. If I turn on the 9200 then it heats up quite alot. I'm still in the 21 days so I'm still thinking about returning this laptop. My biggest gripe is the amount of finger prints and oil that shows up on it's lid, screen, palm rest, capacitive panel and even the keyboard keys.

    Hey Guys,
My XPS 1340 with the 210m is going to ship soon. Any info you guys need? I will post the RAM and clock details(will probably use GPU-Z unless you guys know better programs/tools). How should I check benchmarks?
    Thanks.

Can you do a 3dmarks 06 benchmark with the DOX optimised 185.85 driver here: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/24003-forceware-185-85/ and see what scores you get when you get your laptop. I am really interested to see what improvements the 210m has.

If you go to their website now they stopped carrying both of them.. that means its not on backorder they stopped carrying it. Maybe because of a great amount of returns regarding xps1340's endless list of problems. I cannot comment on xps16 as I dont have it. But I remember that bestbuy orders only I configuration for each system and for processors that was 2.4 p8600 not i7
and for xps 16 it was the older ati gpu not the newer. and for xps1340 its the specs that are in my signature.

Reasons for not carrying the systems might be: a lot of negative feedback on xps1340 on bb's site. Also dell tends to run out of parts all the time... so I dont know but either way dont go to best buy if you want good specs because they have medium configurations.

So no updates then, as far as Dell are concerned.
Also is there away to switch the bluetooth off itself rather than wifi + bluetooth together?

does anyone else's studio xps 13's screen/display/the glass/plastic part not sit flush with the bezel? it seems that both the left and right side, right above the silver bezel/hinge, running up to the top left and right corners the screen seems to be "popping out"...

I used to have that glass issue, though un-bothered by it. But after sending it in for repairs (had a display issue), I guess they replaced LCD with a newer one that doesn't have this problem anymore.

I'm sure it would be a decent reason to get a replacement. It just depends whether or not you care enough to go through the process.

Yeah my laptop has exactly the same issue. I don't really know what's happening but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the hard drive.

On a separate note, when I install the latest nVidia drivers from the nVidia website for Windows 7 I loose the system notification which tells me if I'm in GeForce Boost mode and I can't seem to switch it on either in Power options or by changing my Power plan....
