According to Eric who got his lappy with 210m GS, he got 4600ish 3dmark score. However it seems that 210m GS is in SLI???

^^^ its playing hide and seek with you lol, xps1340 just doesnt stop surprising me with all their cheap parts failing. To be honest If I could go back knowing I was gona have an ish load of problems I would never buy this crap, I think deep inside most xps1340 owners will agree. But its too late for me. People have to read reviews and if a specific system has a lot of bad reviews DONT TAKE YOUR CHANCE BUYING IT!

Yes.. I am angry now. I cannot have dell chat because after i typed my name and email, the website would show something like cannot connect to it. Well, if they replace my motherboard with the new one, then i will be happy for a while...

Yup, I saw that too in the thread I started about the 210m. Its somewhat bizzare that it shows SLI...EricDB noted 46xx score in "SLI BOOST MODE"?

Looks like its gonna be a great card.

I should receive mine next week after Dell delayed the system exchange again.

You have a bad hard drive. You could buy an SSD to replace it or return it to dell to be fixed/refunded.

Seriously, the 1340 is not a bad system. I'm happy deep down with mine-I've owned it for 7 months.
    My specs:

    LED
    9500M(never in SLI mode)
    64GB SSD
    4GB Ram
    Wireless N-No Bluetooth.

happens sometimes, try calling them why u need the chat..

BTW so Eric tested his new 210m+9400m in boost mode... I looked around the web to see what card its close to when its in boost mode, it turns that it performs like Geforce 8700m GT, Im guessing its good after all that 210 is in sli with 9400m, I dont know how it goes for heating part but performance wise its a good gain..

I don't think the new motherboard is the 210m GS... the 9400m G alone will be around 2000 3dmark06. Then the 210 is another 2000? I think 210m GS is better than that.

if you look under nvidia, the codename matches.. but i see what you mean... since the new gpu is suppose to be twice as fast as 9400m, so if 9400 is around 2000, the 210 alone should be 4000, and in sli should be like a 3dmark06 of 6000 points... But its his first day using it and Im assuming he's using ubuntu to test it, maybe on windows the drivers will do a big difference, or might be that he's testing it wrong, or maybe i dont know what im saying............

Maybe Dell uses the same old way... 9500m GE has similar 3dmark06 with the 9500m GS. So the 210m has the similar score with the 210m GS.

For those who've been struggling to get an esata drive working, I finally have mine working. It's a 3 gbs standard esata drive that I couldn't get the 1340 to recognize.

Finally I called Dell tech support; after trying to reload the drivers to no avail, they agreed to replace the motherboard. When the tech arrived at my house, he did not have a mobo, but instead replaced the esata port and connector, and voila! It now works like it's supposed to work. Much faster than usb.

So the 210M GPU is in Hybrid SLI config with the 9400M? Great. Another setup that few games will support. :( But at least the discrete card is more powerful than the integrated one.

If eSATA isn't working, makes sure you check your enclosure as well. I'm going to search for a firmware update on mine, but I found that it wouldn't work with a 500GB drive, but it works (mostly) with a 1.5TB drive in it. I sometimes have to fiddle with power cycling the enclosure, but once it syncs up it's incredibly quick. I use it with Acronis to backup my laptop.

Question for you guys. First is why should I update my BIOS if my current A02 version is fine? Second where should I download updated Nvidia drivers from, Dell or Nvidia?

    Thanks!

In case it hasn't been mentioned, Windows 7 drivers are now on the US Dell site. Some are timestamped as being uploaded at 10am this morning, so I assume it just went live today.

Pretty much the same driver versions that are on the SXPS 1645 page, which is what I've been using, but there's new SXPS13 specific chipset/ethernet drivers and a 186.33 NVIDIA Graphics driver.

My sxps 13 shipped today! But it sucks that i didn't know about the new gpu... It wasn't available at the Swedish site anyway..

And this is my second sxps 13, my other broke down totally and they gave me a complete new one. Only changed one thing, from 128 ssd to 256 ssd.

So what's going on here; the 210M is a standalone videocard, or there is a hybrid 9400M + 210M?

I am getting two errors from installing the new Nvidia drivers.

The first is a SM Bus Controller and the second is a Coprocessor.

Where can I get drivers for these?

    **EDIT**

I didn't realize when I uninstalled the Nvidia display driver I also chose to uninstall the chipset and audio driver as well.

So that problem is solved with reinstalling those from the CD. But I have a new problem now of the multimedia buttons now working. Anyone have any idea on that?

    **EDIT2**

Well In an effort to get my multimedia buttons to work I did the "recommended" updates on Dell's website and ended up totally hosing my windows partition. Since its totally gone... wont even boot into safemode I think I might try out the Windows 7 7100 ISO that I have been toying with in a VM. I guess this is what I get for trying to update my system.

Alright guys, so here's the deal. The studio XPS 13 will NEVER have a better single card graphics solution than the 9400M. This is because it uses the nForce 730i which only supports GeForce Boost and not Hybrid Power (such as used in Macbooks). They would have to use a completely different motherboard, which is extremely unlikely as it's easier and cheaper to simply sodder on an updated graphics card.

I don't know if this has been posted before, but the Express Card slot on some Dell Studio XPS 1340's are tricky to get at. I was trying to remove the plastic slot holder but pressing in, nothing was happening.

I had to carefully slide the tip of a knife (or something thin and solid) along the top of the slot (from left to right) (the right side seemed to be up higher and had to be pressed down from the top with the knife) while pressing in on the plastic slot holder at the same time. It clicked out then.

Can anyone recommend a good wireless N ADSL router which works well with the Studio XPS 1340? I want to upgrade from Wireless G to N to try to improve the range of the connection to my 1340. Selecting a reliable ADSL router seems to be quite a task - they all seem to have some sort of problems. So I would like to hear of real world experience. I would also like to use the router for wireless connection to my PS3. Is anyone else doing that?

    I am in the UK.

    Thank you for your help

the dell rep issued me a system exchange however he said that upgrading motherboard is not possible. He said that the system exchange will only give you the same configuration as you have had. I told him i could pay for the upgrade or the new motherboard but he stated that it is not possible. Well, if the new system still has the same problem then i will issue a refund.

Maybe. Do you have the appropriate license for the other systems? If not, then no. The useful thing is this media will use the cert in the BIOS to activate it. Other than that, nothing else special (unless they slipstream some drivers or something, which I doubt). In fact, I'm not even sure you could use a regular serial number with it. I have my licenses through MSDN, so I just use the Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with the appropriate key from there.

Hi folks. I've been given an XPS 1340 for work which is running Windows 7 32bit Enterprise and is connected to my work domain.

I'm having problems with the Ethernet network connection; at work I can connect through the network to my email and networked drives etc, but I can't save to them. However, if I switch to wifi I have no problems. The same at home; through the Ethernet port I can't connect to the work network using Cisco VPN, but it works fine if I connect through my wifi.

I installed the latest drivers for the Ethernet adapter from the Dell website last night, but that didn't help.

Has anyone else had problems like this or have any suggestions what else I could try?

I've had that problem, but not exactly. And it was with Vista. I called Dell many times about this problem and tried everything.

For me the problem was that the Ethernet adapter worked but it didn't connect to Internet/network when Cisco VPN was installed.

The only solution was to uninstall Cisco VPN everytime i needed to use the Ethernet adapter. I only use Cisco VPN from home and with the wifi.
At the office i need the Ethernet adapter but not Cisco VPN, and for that to work i had to uninstall Cisco VPN...

I had other problems with my computer and Dell are sending my a new one now.. i thought i'm the only that got this problem and a new lappy would fix this. But now when i read that you got the same problem, i believe that there are some serious errors with XPS 13 and Cisco VPN.

Before Dell gave me a new computer, they tried to replace everyting on it.. but with no luck.

    Hi guys,

    Can someone confirm if:-

It is possible to DISABLE the 9400m core (via bios or software) in order to force games to use the new 210m discrete GPU on its own, rather than using the dreaded hybrid SLi feature? Hybrid SLi might look good in 3dmark and other synthetic benchmarks, but it seems to suck in real software...

I believe this is possible with the recent macbook pro's (disables the 9400m altogether and enables the 9600 on its own, rather than running in sli).

    Cheers,

    Wonderdog

I replaced my motherboard *and* the internal esata cable with connector, and still ESATA is flakey at 3gbps. I have one drive (samsung) that works at 3gbps if I use an esata cable that is about 12 inches long without an external enclosure. It fails if I go with a longer cable (16 inches or so). My western digital, seagate, maxtor, drives all fail at 3gbps on this laptop. I have a whole thread about this over here:
