Hey guys whats up? I ordered a xps 1340 from best buy, i want to know what is the pro and con's of this notebook? Also i would like to know about the bios updates and the heat problems it has at times? Mine will have the 9400M 256 i will change the board someday anyway to get the gt210, if it is worth it.

The only cons I can think of is the heat it gets when in hybrid SLI, but it's tolerable as long as you don't have it on your lap and I'm not a fan of touch sensitive media buttons on the top of the notebook. I preferred the real button setup on the front of the system like my E1505. Other than those two things I love my computer and would by another one in a heartbeat.

It's not possible. If you read back a few pages I state that the chipset is unable to do Hybrid Power, only GeForce boost.

Hey guys I'm about to pick up a Studio XPS 13 but I'm having trouble finding some info on the boards here....

    1. How is the heat with the NEW N10m-gs card? I've read that the older Studio XPS 13 models can get quite hot.

    2. Can you swap out the Dell wifi card for an Intel 5300?

    3. WLED or regular screen?

    4. Would you recommend it overall based on build quality/performance?

    Thanks!!

    1. Don't know the heat yet. The n10m is too new and very few owners have it.
    2. No because the 5300 is not compatible with the nvidia chipset.
    3. I would recommend it if it is working. The build quality is solid. Nice perfromance for the 13 inch laptop. Also, I cannot find any other laptop that is as cool as the SXPS13.
    4. WLED LCD is better. The color is great and use less power.

I'm still deciding if I should pull the trigger. I have a perfectly functional laptop but I want something smaller for class.

I think now is a good time to buy the SXPS13. Dell shows a huge bundel sell that can save you $403. Then use the EEP to have another 7% discount that will add up to $500 something. Also, dell gives you the laptop with windows 7.

I was wondering what you guys' WEI score was on Windows 7 ?

    I got a 4,8 with the 9400 + 9200, but a 5,5 with the 9400 stand alone

WEI is not accurate. Some people got different scores with the same configuration. So don't be dependent on that score.

Just beat them up a bit on the EPP phone line, and they'll hook you up. That's what I do. They can give further discounts and free overnight shipping.

Are you sure about this? I've read that the issues people were having were due to old drivers and the new drivers have no problems whatsoever. As long as you get a mini Intel 5300, it should be fine no?

If this is not the case, would the Intel 4965 potentially be compatible?

Yes i am sure. If you read the compatible list then you will see that nvidia chipset is not in there. You can try if you want to have that so bad. However let me warn you that you will get tons of freezes.

Ok. So it doesn't work for ANY Intel card right, not just the latest generation?

And didn't the Studio XPS 13s used to come with Intel wifi cards at first?

Nice config! The price seems good. I'm waiting on a new 1340 with N10m-GS, also. Hopefully, I'll be getting it in a week or so. Getting it as part of a system replacement for my old 1330.

    Enjoy the system!

Has anyone else ordered their Studio XPS 13 and have had delays this week? Dell told me that they have ran out of the Wireless Card and this is causing delays of up to 2-3 weeks on orders. I ordered 10 days ago, and my order is still at "work in progress". From previous experience, my orders have usually left the factory and is in the Destination country by day 10. This is beggining to seriously p*ss me off. Estimated Date has dragged to December. If I knew that there would be delays I would not have ordered it.

Hey guys I was wondering if some of you 1330 or previous dell owners could help me out. I just bought a Energizer xp18000 external battery ($99 today on woot.com!) and was wondering, since the studio xps 13 isn't listed in the XPAL tip finder, if there was a legacy device that would have the same tip as the 1340.

Which type of SSD would you guys recommend for my 1340?

I cannot find which connection the Dell 1340 motherboard uses so it's hard for me to look at SSd reviews. Can someone please help me.

Comparing the 1340 adapter to my E1505 and D610 they seem to be the same size. The A08 adapter that comes with it should work. Let me know when you get it. I was considering getting it as well.

It was an impulse buy. I've just been really excited to get something smaller but I really don't need it right now. I decided to wait for Arrandale since I already have the latest hardware in my current laptop.

It's too bad cause they offered me an additional $100 off before I cancelled :(. Such a good deal.

    Question:
Im going to receive win7 upgrade soon. I've noticed that dell's site lacks a lot of drivers, like wifi and a bunch more... How do I go about it? will windows 7 just download them by itself? or I can download vista drivers and they will work just fine?

You called and went through the EPP phone line to order your laptop, correct? I'm interested in ordering one soon and was wondering what you did to get such a big difference in price from whats shown on the website. From the website I got around $1300 for the same configuration off both the epp and normal dell site (although the normal dell site was cheaper for some reason).
Anything specific you did to get such a large difference? Or is it just cheaper in general if you call?

when I installed win7 the only driver I couldnt download from the dell site was my dell wifi 1515 and the bluetooth 370 but windows had inbuilt drivers which work fine. I'd like to think if dell are sending you the win7 cd they would include the driver cd as well

Just an observation on both my XPS Studio desktop and 1340 Laptop but the HDs in the respective machines are significantly louder under Windows 7 than Vista x64. I've google searched, and I'm not the only one who has noticed the increase in activity and volume from the HDs after Win 7.

Nope, Win7 is fine with Vista drivers for the most part. The big difference is the IDT Audio driver; there's a new Win7 one that works right.

I use Webcam Central, and it works great in both Vista and 7 Ultimate x64. I asked Dell to send it to me since it wasn't on their driver site, nor the other software fulfillment site.

all programs that came preinstalled on your personal computers such as xps1340 can be found at smartsource.dell.com just type in your tag # and you can get all the software that came preinstalled no need to ask dell for any disks

Incorrect. The Dell Webcam Central app did not, in fact, show up in Smartsource for me. The video conferencing, burning, AV, and other apps were on there but NOT webcam central. They realized this, and sent me a disc with just it on there. I'm using Webcam Central 1.2, which I *think* I found on the Dell drivers site for a different laptop but not for the 1340.

How is the heat on the SXPS 1340 with the new 210m? Is it just as bad with the 9500? Should be getting mine this week according to FedEx. Dell replaced my m1330 with the sxps 13.

On my order it lists it as Webcam Central 1.2, and the CD they sent was 1.20.10, and it works great. It even works on my Mini 9 netbooks. I found Webcam Central 2.0, but that won't work on the 1340 (complains about not seeing the Creative Webcam driver even though I installed it). You don't need the Creative driver for 1.2 though.

I was able to download webcam central from there, and that face recognition software fast access or something too( but i never use it) also the disk burning software was there. I dunno why it didnt work for you. I just downloaded all the software and burned by own disk for future reference.
