Actually my status is still In Transit, but the messages below indicate it is out for delivery. They update the messages a bit late, as the message is timed @ 6:55, and it only showed up a few minutes ago.

Thanks, and I'm sure I will. I would have loved it even more if the 17 came with the 1080p screen, but maybe I can / will upgrade that myself, later on.

Off to a customer now, and hoping the laptop is here when I get back!

UK order, XPS15 with 1080p screen, EDD was 25/11.

(Now just the usual online shopping hassle of being at work when it's delivered, and having to get to the UPS depot to pick it up... Would be awesome if it arrives on Friday, as I'll be in, though)

 

My XPS 17 was delivered around 13:45, and my first iompression is that I really like it! I think it looks stylish, without being hip. It looks much better than in the photo's I've seen so far.

Mine arrived 12:45 pm, about 10 minutes after I had to leave to go to London for a meeting

Working on it now though and impressed so far. Some brief points on a quick use:

Pros

Good build quality
Quiet so far (though I haven't taxed it much yet)
Fairly clean software build
Quick

Cons

Short-ish power cable
DVD recovery tool won't accept DVD-RW disks (and I don't have any DVD-R's at the moment)
Dell's irritating habit of configuring the 500Gb drive as one volume
I keep hitting the caps lock key (I'll get used to this)

So far so good, I'm going to try stuff out now and will write up my findings later.

Please explain this for us Everybody I have spoken to at Dell says that the 1920x1080 is NOT available for the XPS17!!!! Do you have other information you can share with us, please??

Could anyone please also comment on the noise&fan work of the new XPS?. And does it have the high pitched noise, which is now unfortunately quite common among different models/manufacturers ;/.

You may wonder why I went with the Design Studio - well I photograph wildlife as a hobby - birds to be exact, so the bird themed design studio was good since the lappy will be used a lot of photo editing out in the field.

Backlit keyboard is not on the online options here in Australia, so I rang Dell and the salesperson was able to easily add the backlit keyboard option. Now, let's hope it's actually true!

You got an EDD that quick? I ordered mine on monday and changed the bill to credit card details on wednesday and mine still says may take up to 3 days to give EDD.

I had the base XPS14 configd up a few things and added backlit keyboard over phone

 

it seems like the 17's are coming a bit faster than the others..

17 > 14 > 15 :S

 

Did you order yours over the internet, or through a Dell employee? I ordered mine through a sales person, so it was perhaps fast tracked as it didnt lie around in cyber-world waiting for someone to action it. My EDD says 1/12/2010 or before, so here is hoping it's before!

Configured online to what I wanted, then emailed the cart to a Dell Sales rep over the phone to add backlit keyboard. Got the acknowledgement of order on monday. When I had to change credit card details I got another acknowledgement of order within 5 minutes of the phone call and a confirmation of order in another hour. So I guess it has been done.

Perhaps coz I took the base setup and configured it up a fair bit it takes longer to figure out the EDD. Regardless the sales rep was really good and said It would definately be before 4th December when I need to leave the country.

Either way, looking forward to it. Only thing a bit :s about is the screen, but lets see when it gets here

 

Mine's in Kazakhstan too.

My last order went Shanghai > Warsaw, Poland > Cologne, Germany > UK

This went straight to Almaty, KZ from Shanghai. I'm hoping it skips Poland and goes straight to Germany to have any hope for a Friday delivery.

 

If its KZ today you should get it tomorrow, mine was in KZ yesterday and I received it today

Received the email last night that my XPS 17 is on the way with an EDD of 11/16.

However, when I clicked on FED EX tracking link, it says it will be delivered on 11/12. TOMORROW

Mini-update, my 15 has just left Kazakhstan...

 

Same for me, dude. I ordered the same day 10/22/2010 and after a call had EDD shifted from 18/11/2010 to 15/11/2010. Don't know why it tekes them so long <_<

 

After some cancellations and all kinds of bad stuff I ordered mine on 9 November and today I've got the order confirmation with an EDD of "on or before 30 November" that seems pretty early since my last orders placed in late October had an EDD of 9 December... As long as it's earlier I pretty much don't bother

The only reason I called was because of your original post. Thanks for the idea! A Dell rep called me the day of the order to confirm and told me my comp was going to be expedited and should ship in 3-5 days. Well, 2 weeks later, still in production....oh well. The rep appologized for the misleading confirmation call and upgraded to overnight shipping.

At standard shipping it's not even going to get here by 11/18 now. And they never responded to my second email. heh. I'm thinking about cancelling and going with the Envy. I'm not impressed with Dell right now.

 

great, i did email them 2 times and get replied within 2 days, however, they didnt reply with specific ans, for example, which component actually they are shortage of! but they change edd from 'n/a' to '18/11'.

i dont know, but the guys ordered from different places are start getting their pcs. may be they have some priority list best on the region!

dell aus website is totally immature in terms of accessories but highly mature in the main components! no backlit keyboard, bluetooth 3, usb 3 etc. at least they dont mention anything about it or any option to choose!

 

Eh, I emailed the guy's boss, and since he was out of the office, I emailed the two other supervisors he left email addresses for. We'll see.
